Description

Austin Watkins, 35 and a single father, finds himself in a precarious situation. Currently locked up in Chicago's Cook County Jail, he knows that Fredquisha, the trifling mother of his only daughter, is a despicable, careless and reckless THOT who is the antithesis of caring, loving black motherhood.Wanting to see her son gain full redemption from his current situation, Delores Watkins, better known as Mrs. Watkins, is also hellbent on rescuing Austin’s six-year-old daughter, Myyah, from the clutches of relentless psychological, emotional and physical abuse she suffers at the hands of Fredquisha. Hoping her son works hard to change the course of his life for the betterment of his daughter, Mrs. Watkins explores the possibility of challenging Fredquisha’s custody of Myyah. But as she navigates the complex, red-tape filled bureaucracy of child welfare services, Mrs. Watkins decides to take things in her own hand and is willing to put her life on the line for the salvation of her granddaughter. Fredquisha Pierce, a native of the dangerous Englewood, Chicago, could give a two sh!ts about the welfare of her daughter. Her mission in life is simple. Get money, smoke good weed and ride bomb d--k. Nothing more, nothing less. After meeting a potential new bae, Fredquisha needs to make some lifestyle changes so she can upgrade her section 8 squalor living situation. However, a looming pregnancy threatens to unravel her plans for a big come up.This book is another episodic chronicle born out of the dark, gritty, social drama storytelling talent of urban fiction mastermind QUAN MILLZ. THIS HOE GOT ROACHES IN HER CRIB will deliver a gut- punching blow to those who don't understand the many trials and tribulations single fathers go through to rescue their children from manipulative ratchet women who use the family court system to their advantage.-This is a work of satirical fiction that could be described as a dark comedy combined with social commentary. In no way do the descriptions of the characters reflect my personal feelings or beliefs in regards to those of African descent, particularly Black women. The stereotypes employed in the book are deliberate in that I attempt to cast a light on the state of contemporary urban pulp fiction. Read more

  • This Hoe Got Cracks in His Heart
Format: Kindle
Let me preface this by saying I have seen the covers and titles to Mr. Millz work for a while never thinking they were real. That was until a friend sent me a link and a dollar to buy “This Hoe got Roaches in Her Crib” for my kindle. At first I wasn’t even interested beyond starting a meme between my friends, but that changed once I realized this is beyond a funny title and a comical cover. The story begins in the slums of Chicago's public housing, fully describing the vile nature of our main antagonist Fredquisha’s apartment. The words used so skillfully it feels like misplaced talent, descriptions so meticulous it feels like you were recounting your own experience with these places. The characters are very well developed, realistic dialogue, 3 dimensional depth with every word and interaction. At points I would get so lost in the story it felt like someone was recounting their day of drama. There are some liberties taken with the narration, disdain shown to certain characters voiced between dialogues but it honestly adds to it, it’s very funny at points. Describing it as a dark comedy satire is true for maybe 30% of the book, the other 70% is true tragedy writing that, I will admit, had me with tears streaming down my face rooting for these characters hoping that everything would work out. The fact I could name any one of these characters to you if you asked me, is a testament to how memorable this story is. Now a forewarning, there is some great description in this book, the sex scenes almost made me go celibate. They are VILE, but they do add another layer to show how you should feel about the characters involved. Again, read at your own risk, I don’t think the story would be the same without them. All in all, this book made me laugh, cry, and look on in pure disgust, and feel a sense of warmth for the characters. There’s some typos here and there but I just assumed Mr. Millz does not have an editor, and for 99 cents? I’m not going to complain. If you know how to read you’ll figure it out. Buy it, read it, endure it, I know I’ll be reading more from Mr. Millz. ... show more

  • Hilarious
Format: Paperback
This Hoe Got Roaches in Her Crib” by Quan Millz is exactly what the title promises—a wild, over-the-top ride through the messy, chaotic, and downright hilarious side of hood life. From the first page, the characters are vivid, dramatic, and completely unfiltered. The main character is a hot mess, but you can’t help rooting for her in a twisted way. Her decisions are wild, her standards are questionable, and her house? Baby, the roaches are practically characters of their own. What I really enjoyed is that beneath the humor and exaggeration, there’s real social commentary. Quan Millz knows how to blend comedy with truth, making you laugh one second and think the next. The writing is sharp and fast-paced—definitely a book you can finish in a day or two because it’s so hard to put down. Is it messy? Yes. Is it petty? Absolutely. But that’s the point. This is urban satire at its boldest, and it delivers exactly what it sets out to: a hilarious, jaw-dropping story that doesn’t pretend to be anything it’s not. If you like your books spicy, ratchet, and realer than real, this one’s for you. I loved it. ... show more

  • Don't judge a book by its cover!!
Format: Kindle
Definitely not what I was thinking, I assumed it was gonna be a comedy. The emotional roller-coaster ride that Mr Millz put you on as a reader. This book can easily be a good movie or even a 2 part mini series. I enjoyed this book, Quan Millz has a new fan and follower. Old Thot Next Door you're up next. ... show more

  • Powerful storytelling
Format: Kindle
I underestimated this book all of the times I saw it online, laughed at the title, and moved on. I’m glad I finally bought and read it because the storytelling is great, there were many moving parts, but the author nicely tied up everything. I laughed, shook my head, then laughed again, and held back tears at one point. This satire is about so much more than a hoe with 🪳; it’s about hope, resilience, a family’s love, desperation, manipulation, and the drawbacks of the system. ... show more

  • Glorious
Format: Paperback
A bad B.E.T. soap opera mixed with a morality play, THIS HOE GOT ROACHES IN HER CRIB has everything: soft-core pornography, gun violence, ratchetry, saintly heroes, vile villains, every curse word under the sun, and lots of roaches. Even though I just finished my first read of this South Side Trashterpiece, I have so many questions, and so many critiques. The editing job in this book was horrendous. It's very clear several drafts were just mixed together in this finished copy. Jonah is often referred to as Austin on numerous occasions, and several other characters often have their names mixed up as well. Sometimes, completely wrong words are used, and neither sentences nor paragraphs follow the traditional structure. There are misspellings, timeline inconsistencies, and LOGIC inconsistencies. For example, The Cook County Correctional Facility is often portrayed in a better light and as a nicer place than the streets. The jail has a Daddy-Daughter dance, for example, and the warden is a doctor who wants all of the inmates to get better. The ending is a work of complete fantasy, and the book often throws in extemporaneous details and overly long monologues that throw off the pacing. The omnipotent, third person narrator also has the SPICIEST opinions on the characters, which was an interesting touch. Quan Millz once used the word "broski" in a conversation in this book that felt completely out of place. He loves his plot twists, and if he's not really from Chicago or the South Side, I won't be shocked. Despite all that, this was a page-turner. Millz has some talent. I can't wait to read the rest of his books! ... show more
