  • When you need the smallest, most unobtrusive, and best for fast and light mobility, this is it.
I have the Turnstyle 5, 10, and 20. This is a review for the 5. There are many complaints of the size of this sling bag in the reviews. These may or may not be fair. This is a small bag at only 5L. With this bag forget about bringing your battery grip unless you can keep it detached while stored. If you have a larger camera body, you'll probably get a single lens in here unless you have some small ones. Forget about your telephoto lenses unless you are M4/3 or smaller. For M4/3 gear, this is great. You can bring a small body and a few smaller lenses, or a couple premium, or a telephoto and another small. I use it with full frame when working where I want to keep all my gear with me and I know I'll be carrying my camera 100% of the time and not storing it in the case. I use the sling to hold a lens or two for changes. I've been able to fit a full frame Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 + full frame Sigma 35mm f1.2 in the bag at once, along with a small number of extras like batteries and a flash trigger. The sling bags are a top choice when it comes to hands-free carrying, supporting lens changes, and traveling fast and light. This 5L almost disappears from your back. Like the other slings, you can rotate this to your front. The zipper is on top and was designed to open to a little station where you can change your lens in the bag while its hanging around your shoulder. Another benefit of these bags are that they can be worn in the front. This became an issue in a museum that did not allow backpacks, a simple rotation to the front and it was no longer a backpack and everyone was happy. Lastly it comes with its own hidden rain case which is nice peace of mind. Kind of a plus and a minus, the Turnstyle bags hold their shape. They don't have hard parts but they are well constructed and padded to be rigid in shape regardless of how much you have in them. This is great in many cases. It does make the bag less flexible to stuff, as others note. You are fighting the padding and stiffness. The upside is a half full bag with a heavy lens isn't going to sag to one side or otherwise lose it's shape. The key is to select the appropriate size. This is a functioning bag, if you are looking mainly for a carrying or packing bag, this is not efficient for that. This bag excels in supporting mobility. The caveats to this bag are that (1) it is small, do not under-estimate how small as appears many do (2) the lens changing function is not as functional if the bag is overstuffed and you have to dig around. Get the next size up if needed. (3) As others mentioned, the outer pockets are slim. I find them useful for flatter things like batteries, cards, mini folding reflectors, but you won't get anything thick in those without losing space in the main compartment, including thicker batteries. (4) it comes with a waist belt that can be mostly pushed up into a hidden compartment. I wish it could be detached/attached as it adds a slight amount of extra bulk for something I probably won't use except for long hikes. ... show more

  • Love
To small for me

  • This bag is too small
I returned this bag for a few reasons. First, owing to the bag's slim profile and tear-drop taper, it is entirely too small for most cameras. Many other Amazon reviewers indicate this fact as well. Only purchase it if you have a very compact camera, like a small point and shoot. The Fuji X-T30, which I consider a small camera, smashes up against the inside walls of the bag when zipped, compromising the usefulness of the bag's many pockets. The whole experience of removing and returning the camera to the bag is unpleasant, and I'd also be concerned about scratching my camera's finish on the zipper. It's just too cramped. The second issue is the waist strap. A waist strap is unnecessary given the bag's micro carrying capacity. The bag will stay firmly in place on your body without it. While you can tuck the strap into a hidden slot on the side, all that strap material and plastic creates a bulge INSIDE the bag, further decreasing space for the camera. The bulge is also visible from the outside. It's a poor design. I'd suggest to Think Tank that they kill the waist strap for v3, or make it totally removable. Finally, the bag is uncomfortable on my shoulder. There's too much material . The shoulder strap is too broad for the size of the bag. Maybe you'd want this beefy strap on a 10L bag filled with lenses, but you don't need it here. I replaced the Think Tank with the Peak Design Everyday Sling 3L. The PD is a smarter design all around, it appears to be higher quality with cleaner lines, it's comfortable, waterproof, and there's plenty of room for my camera. ... show more

  • Great bag for Olympus EM-1 II & 12-100
The Olympus EM-1 Mk 2 and attached 12-100 Pro lens fit comfortably in the Turnstyle 5 sling, being very accessible, and with practically no wasted space. This body and lens combo is 7.75" with the hood in the extended, shooting position, and it drops in easily with about 3" to spare, with the camera body at the bottom of the bag and lens pointing up into the narrow top. Those remaining 3" at the top of the bag are barely usable- with one of the included partitions squeezed in, I can just fit a battery or the small flash that was included with the EM1 II, just ahead the extended hood, and still leave about an inch gap so the camera goes in and out of the bag easily. If you're willing to sacrifice that gap (and reverse the lens hood), a very small prime lens might fit, providing it wasn't very tall- the bag's zipper curves inward at the top of the bag, so the available space in those top 3" is pretty restricted. With just the body, lens, extended hood and a spare battery, the fit is perfect- just big enough, but as compact as it can be on the outside. My only complaint with the bag is that the additional zippered compartment on the outside of the bag isn't expandable, and with the EM1 II's 3.5" height filling the interior's 3.5" dimension, whatever goes in that outside zippered compartment above the body (and above the 3.5" hood) needs to be pretty thin- I keep a microfiber cloth and a couple of Zeiss lens wipes in there. A battery will squeeze in, as long as you don't try to place it above the body or the hood. The whole point of this bag, for me, is to make carrying the EM1+12-100 combo comfortable, convenient, and quickly accessible, in a bag that is as compact as possible, and for that use, it's perfect. The other candidate was the Peak Design 3L, and I ended up greatly preferring this Turnstyle 5. ... show more

  • The 5 is way too tight for an ILC with lens attached
I bought the 5 for my EM1 M3. I figured it would be big enough since it’s a M43 camera but although I like the bag I’d say only buy the 5 if you have a fixed lens camera. The moment I put my EM5 with the 12-40pro lens in there the front and back compartments become almost useless because it’s so tight. I’d have the carry the body and the lens separate in order for it not to be tight which defeats the purpose if the camera isn’t ready to be taken out quickly to take a shot. If you have an ILC then stay away from the 5 and get the 10. The 5 is great for my GR3 with some other daily carry items or maybe an X100V or similar camera. ... show more
