  • Premium Cooling, Whisper-Quiet, and Incredible Value
Style: PA120 White ARGB
Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 White ARGB Review: Premium Cooling, Whisper-Quiet, and Incredible Value The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 White ARGB CPU Air Cooler has become a standout product in the highly competitive cooling market, largely thanks to its astonishing performance-to-price ratio. At just $39.90, this dual-tower air cooler promises robust thermal management, striking aesthetics, and remarkably quiet operation. Our experience with this cooler strongly suggests it delivers on every front, making it an exceptional choice for PC builders. Design and Aesthetics (White ARGB) Right out of the box, the Peerless Assassin 120 White ARGB is designed to impress. The cooler features a pristine white aluminum heatsink cover that provides a clean, modern look, perfectly suited for white-themed builds. Complementing this are two 120mm TL-C12W-S PWM fans that are the star of the show for lighting. These fans boast high-brightness LED atomizing fan blades, which effectively diffuse the ARGB lighting to create a softer, more integrated glow rather than harsh individual LED points. This effect, combined with the capability for motherboard-synchronized lighting control, allows for seamless integration into your system's overall RGB theme. With dimensions of 125(L)x135(W)x157(H)mm, it's a substantial cooler, but its white finish and vibrant ARGB ensure it's a visually appealing centerpiece. Cooling Performance: Flagship-Level Efficiency This is where the Peerless Assassin truly shines. Despite its budget-friendly price, it rivals coolers many times its cost in performance. When paired with an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X (assuming this refers to a high-performance, future, or comparable current-gen AMD processor given the excellent thermal results), the cooler delivered outstanding thermal control. Observed temperatures ranged from a very cool 47°C at idle to a maximum of just 67°C under load. This exceptional performance is a testament to its robust engineering, including: 6 x 6mm pure copper sintered heat pipes: These efficiently draw heat away from the CPU. Pure copper base: Provides excellent thermal conductivity directly from the CPU IHS. AGHP (Anti-Gravity Heat Pipe) technique: Solves the "inverse gravity effect," ensuring optimal heat dissipation regardless of the cooler's orientation (vertical or horizontal). Massive 245W TDP rating: This indicates its immense capacity to handle even the most demanding, high-wattage CPUs with ease, keeping them well within safe operating temperatures. Noise Levels: A Whisper in the Storm One of the most impressive aspects of the Peerless Assassin 120 White ARGB is its incredibly quiet operation. Even with its dual TL-C12W-S PWM fans spinning up to their maximum 1500 RPM (±10%), the noise level is barely perceptible, rated at a remarkably low ≤25.6dB(A). This makes it an ideal choice for users who prioritize a silent computing environment without making any compromises on cooling efficiency. The high airflow of 66.17CFM (MAX) further underscores its ability to move a significant amount of air quietly. Build Quality and Compatibility The cooler feels substantial in hand, weighing 1.02kg (2.25lb), indicative of its solid construction. The inclusion of metal fasteners for both Intel and AMD platforms (Intel: 1150/1151/1155/1156/1200/1700/17XX/2066/2011, AMD: AM4/AM5) ensures a secure, stable, and straightforward installation process, offering broad compatibility with almost all modern CPU sockets. The fans connect via standard 4-pin PWM headers, allowing for precise speed control. Value Proposition At an astonishing price point of $39.90, the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 White ARGB offers a performance-to-price ratio that is virtually unmatched in the market. It brings premium cooling capabilities, advanced technology, and striking aesthetics typically found in much more expensive coolers, making it incredibly accessible to budget-conscious builders. Pros: Exceptional Cooling Performance: Maintains extremely low temperatures even under load (e.g., 67°C max on a Ryzen 5 9600X). Whisper-Quiet Operation: Noise levels are barely perceptible at ≤25.6dB(A). Stunning White ARGB Aesthetics: Atomizing fan blades and white heatsink cover offer a clean, vibrant, and customizable look. Advanced AGHP Technology: Ensures consistent cooling performance regardless of orientation. Broad Compatibility: Supports a wide range of Intel and AMD sockets (AM4/AM5, LGA1700 included). Incredible Value for Money: Unbeatable performance at a sub-$40 price point. Robust Build Quality: Features 6 copper heat pipes, a copper base, and durable aluminum construction. Cons: Large Physical Size: At 157mm tall, it might be too large for some smaller PC cases or interfere with tall RAM modules on certain motherboards (though not explicitly stated in the provided info, it's a common consideration for dual-tower coolers). The specific "Ryzen 5 9600X" CPU designation might be a typo for a currently available processor, but the excellent thermal performance data remains fully valid and impressive regardless. Conclusion The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 White ARGB CPU Air Cooler is an absolute triumph. It defies its budget price tag by delivering flagship-level cooling performance, remarkably quiet operation, and eye-catching ARGB aesthetics. For anyone building a new PC or looking to upgrade their stock cooler, especially with a white-themed build, this cooler is an absolutely outstanding choice. It's a testament to how far budget-friendly components have come, offering premium features and performance without the premium price. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Superb Cooler
Style: PA120 White ARGB
This thing works amazing for the price. Keeps my system plenty cool and looks nice and clean. Mounting was straightforward. The particular one I got starts to get an audible whine around 1000 rpm, which is about 45-50%, but I keep it set to go anywhere between 30% and 50% depending on the cpu load and temp. It is really pretty quiet aside from that. It honestly isn't even loud at full speed, just more of a high pitched hum. Still working great 4 years later, was so happy with it I bought another in black for my wife's PC. ... show more

  • Frostbite
Style: PA120 White ARGB
I bought the white dual tower peerless assassin because it matched my build and I upgraded from the single tower version that had the tips on the end. This newer style looks so clean but looks aren't all, it's super functional. I have an i5 12600kf and on cinebench multiple core tests I went from a respectful 68 degrees on the old single tower, to an amazing 54 degrees with this double tower. Looks good, cools good, argb is a bonus but the pwm splitter is black....thermalright just use normal daisy chained fans for Pete sake. Also, the mounting can be tricky but read the item list then do your required install. No issues with installing or with fan hitting ram, plenty of room in my MSI-Z790 mobo. 10/10 and a fantastic price! All day winner. I actually prefer this over an aio. ... show more

  • Great performance
Style: PA120 White ARGB
Got this to cool my Intel I7 9700k. I get temps during gaming of around 57c. Build quality and performance especially for the price you really can't beat. Companies like Noctua selling air coolers that get nearly the same performance for double the price and they offer the same drab colors. Only downside I would say I didn't like was the mounting bracket. Was a bit of a pain compared to some other brands I've used. ... show more

Style: PA120 White ARGB
I was undecided about liquid or air cooling, but after looking at comparisons, I decided on air cooling. Of all the options, I liked this one: easy assembly, compatible with Intel and AMD, 6 heatpipes, two 12cm fans, controllable ARGB, and white. It keeps an i7-12700K below 70°C when working at full load. ... show more

Style: PA120 White ARGB
I paired this with an i9-11900k & i5-10600k for two different systems & they both run ice cold. This air cooler really can't be beat for the price & ease of installation. The variety of the mount ability is great but Make sure to measure before hand because the size a bit big but if it measures, it fits. Fans fun cold & it's not too loud even under full speed. ... show more

  • Looks great
Style: PA120 White ARGB
Used this for my daughter's new birthday computer that I built myself. Mounted on an MSI z790 board with an INTEL i7 12700 CPU. We do not overclock so I cannot comment on how much the temperatures can fluctuate. Easy to install and easy to connect. The RGB looks great and works perfect with the rest of the RGB in new case. Temperatures are steady and seems to be very quiet. Will post pictures soon ... show more

  • Excellent CPU cooler that is nearly as good as an AIO cooler
Style: PA120 White ARGB
Building a PC on a budget often leads to finding the most optimized solution, e.g. most bang for the buck. There are lots of inexpensive coolers that just are powerful enough when you're a serious gamer, so getting the most cooling for the lower cost is a huge challenge. This CPU cooler his the sweet spot easily. And it has ARGB to boot! When integrated into an white case, it's aesthetically pleasing and works very well. But there's that important warning that all PC system builders should remember, remove the protective cover before attaching to the CPU. It's obvious that you've forgotten when you monitor your CPU temperature and find it higher than expected. But once you correct that mistake, it's obvious why this COU cooler is worth every penny (or nickel at this point.) ... show more
