Top Amazon Reviews

  • Excellent Cost-Effective Unit - Works as Advertised
The media could not be loaded. [This review is for the TPC-K20-G10] Everything is working as advertised - in fact I would say that I’m more impressed with the unit than I expected to be. This monocular compares favorably to the other 256px models in the same price range (the competitor is $100+ more expensive depending on the day). I don’t really want to stop using it ever since I’ve taken it out of the box, it’s like having a superpower! I’ve used plenty of thermals before including clip on and integrated nv/thermal devices, but wanted a simple scouting camera for personal use and managed to catch this one during a sale. It had zero reviews at the time that I bought it but it claims to have a two year warranty and Amazon is pretty good about returns, so I took the risk. So far I’ve tested it at 50ft (15m) indoors, but I’ll update my review once I’ve tested it out to the advertised range of 416 meters and beyond. It comes with, but doesn’t advertise this much in its product description, a laser rangefinder of some sort. From reading the manual it seems to work by measuring a target from top to bottom (you input whether that is a small, medium, large animal, or a person) and it gauges distance using that info. I’m not sure if that’s legitimately more simple/cheap to make than the sort of laser rangefinders hunters or golfers use or not, and haven’t tested this feature yet. Since it wasn’t advertised I didn’t take it into consideration when I bought the product, if it works as advertised it will simply be a nice bonus for me. The battery hasn’t needed a charge yet, it came at 2/3rds and hasn’t dropped down to 1/3rd yet after two hours of walking and occasionally recording, so I expect it does hold up to their claim of ~9 hours on a charge. It’s a lot of fun to walk around the house and look backwards to see your footsteps heat imprints, or to look at electronics to see if they’ve been turned off recently (or if they even have an ambient heat signature despite being off for hours and hours - spooky!). Handprints also leave a signature for a bit after using an item, so I could see this being really handy for not only hunting and hiking but police work. If you’re a handyman, this thing will show you every heat leak with impeccable detail, and now I’m able to confirm what I only previously suspected about my home repair contractors shoddy work. Finding hot water and air pipes and differentiating them is a breeze, of course. If you’re familiar with thermals you know that sometimes it does that thing where it clicks and pauses the displayed image for a second, regardless of price or quality (except maybe the unobtainable stuff that militaries use). This unit does that *rarely*, and it seems to mostly be at very close range, like looking at your own feet or closer. Observing things further away seems to trigger it less. This unit is mountable to a j-arm, and unlike most digital night vision it is actually plausible to use with a helmet. It has a nice rubber eyecup, and if you have a mounting system that doesn’t wiggle around much you can absolutely get this locked in where you want it. It’d probably be ideal in low light situations where your other eye can still see some details in wide FOV, but it does also have those colorful modes that do a pretty good job of illuminating obstacles as separate entities if you absolutely needed to use it in pitch black. It helps a lot to familiarize yourself with practice if you anticipate using it this way, but ideally you’d probably have this to compliment Gen 3+ NV for things like that. BUT if you want to get a skullcrusher and pretend you’re the Predator, yeah it’ll totally work for that. I’m having a fantastic time with this unit and like I said I’ll update it again, probably with a video, once I’ve tried to push it to the limits at which it can detect heat. Now that I’ve seen what this unit is capable of I’d love to compare it with the other products in their lineup! ... show more

  • Best value and great customer service if you need it
I compared this product with two others in the same price range. The. kINSEI clearly outperformed the other two in poor weather conditions. If you’re not familiar with thermal optics, rain fog humidity really puts these things on their knees I have many animals running around in my backyard, so I had lots of opportunities for testing. There were many times when the KINSEI was able to see a squirrel in a tree where the other two were not. In the second photo you can see some deer that came through my backyard. The weather conditions were far from ideal. The two white blobs are bunnies. What’s the most impressive with this picture is that you can make out the roofline of the shed.In the top left of the picture this is important so I have a reference for where I’m looking at with the other two that would not have been visible. What’s the most impressive is. I had three occasions to contact the company with questions and concerns, and they immediately responded in a very clear manner. I really appreciate that and the real reason that I’m writing this review ... show more

  • I'm returning this for a couple reasons.
Size: 25mm Focal Lens 640x512(50HZ) Effective P... Color: Grey
The image quality on this is not bad. I don't have military experience or really anything other than what I've seen on television to compare this to, but it looks pretty impressive. Here is where I have issues and why I'm returning mine... Kinsei has ZERO internet presence other than the listings here on Amazon. If you have questions or need service, you're out of luck as there's no contact email address. The manual says to package the scope and send it to a service center if you have issues, but there's no address for a service center. The web link for firmware upgrades is a Google Drive link which is OK, but the link they provide here and in their manual is the link you use to open YOUR OWN Google Drive, not theirs. I believe the manual says it comes with a two-year warranty. That sounds good but where are you going to send it or who are you going to contact for warranty repair? Amazon washes their hands after 30 days. If you purchase this, my suggestion is to spend the $99 or whatever it is for the Amazon extended product warranty. Otherwise, you may have an expensive paperweight if this stops working after the 30-day return window closes. ... show more

  • Very preliminary review
Size: 19mm Focal Lens 400x300(50HZ) Effective P... Color: Grey
This review is for the model TPCFK40-G19. After watching this item on Amazon for a while, I decided to pull the trigger and buy it as they had a $200 discount for a while. My first impressions is that it is a very solidly built unit on par with my ATN, which is the only other thermal imager that I have used. All of the controls are intuitive and menus are easy to navigate. In use, I find that it is similar to the ATN and has some of the same quirks. For example, when on auto exposure, the unit view will sometimes freeze for a second and the unit will make a clicking noise. Perhaps this is common to all thermal imagers? Image quality is superb (especially when compared with my ATN). Perhaps its biggest con is the fact that the base magnification is just 1x and the digital zoom only goes to 4x. For me, this is not much of an issue because I use it mostly for birding and do not need the long range capability, but a deer hunter might find this a bit limiting. Another quibble is that it does not have hot black setting; although the four different scenes provided are quite good. My only other complaint is that the instruction manual while fairly complete, is printed way too small for 67 year old eyes. Wi-Fi connectivity works well on both Android and IOS. Wi-Fi connection was relatively straight forward. One area that the manual let me down was describing how to connect to Wi-Fi. For those that need to know, after turning Wi-Fi on the unit to create a hotspot, connect your phone to that hotspot. The hotspot will have a name several characters long. Take the last 8 digits of the hotspot name and use that for the password. I will post an update after a couple of months use in the field. ... show more
