  • Buy the older model.
Color: Gray
They took a perfectly good system and screwed it up. With this unit you can no longer conserve fuel on less active days. The light on this unit is joke. I have not managed to get it to work yet. When the unit is low on fuel it will randomly shut down and continues to release fuel. It also takes almost 20 minutes for this thing to warm up. If want a good unit, please purchase the older reliable unit. https://www.amazon.com/ThermaCELL-MR-GJ-Mosquito-Repellent-Appliance/dp/B0031ESIVK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1491594485&sr=8-2&keywords=thermacell ... show more

  • Don't believe all the positive reviews - it doesn't work
Color: Gray
Had this thing running for close to an hour before I went outside to eat dinner right in front of it. It wasn't even windy at all. The air was still. I saw the smoke rising off of the mat. I still was being swarmed by mosquitos. I thought, maybe I should put it on the ground because smoke rises. Nothing. Mosquitos were still attacking like crazy. Had about 5 of them swarming around me and got bit badly. Ugh. I was really hoping this thing was going to work. Back to DEET; the only thing that truly works. ... show more

  • there are limitations
Color: Gray
The sales description on Amazon is a little deceptive. It says that Thermacell is "the trusted choice for the toughest conditions," and then it goes on to describe activities where action and movement is involved. It wasn't until I received the actual product and read the instructions that I understood the limitations. Thermacell is not effective where there is any air movement. It is severely limited when hiking or mowing the yard or if there is any kind of breeze. Performance is affected above 7000 feet altitude. My first trial of the Thermacell was hiking. I was on the move, there was a bit of a breeze, and we were above 7000 feet. I was disappointed in the performance against mosquitoes. In the yard, my biggest problem is with biting midges (also known as no-see-ums or gnats). The second trial was mowing the yard where I am severely eaten by these midges. I hoped the mower would go slow enough that the movement would not be a factor. It was a huge factor and I got all bit up, again. My third trial was weeding, where I am mostly in one area, not on the move. Finally it seemed there was some relief, but I was also well sprayed up with a home remedy bug repellant, not DEET. I thought the pad was getting used up, turned off the Thermacell, and then I was bothered by the midges and mosquitoes. So I turned it back on, even with the mostly used pad, and it seemed better. I will keep trying the Thermacell when I am in the yard and not on the move. I am just really disappointed that the limitations were not clear in the sales pitch. ... show more

  • Doesn't seem to help
Color: Black
I bought this to use while sitting on my front porch. When I've attempted to use it, I started it, gave it time to warm up and placed it right between my feet while I sat in a chair. Mosquitoes don't seem to be a bit deterred by it, often hovering right by it for minutes. One is flying right in from of my face as I sit here typing this. I'm also not even in a super infested area. Typically at dusk I'll get anywhere between 1 to 10 and that still seems to be the case on the 5 occasions I've tried to use this device. Unfortunately, it can't be returned, supposedly because of the gas cartridge that comes with it. Obviously, I should be able to return it without the little cartridge considering it just doesn't work. I would not recommend this. ... show more

  • It's a nice unit that keeps mosquitos away
Color: Gray
Thermacell works. No doubt. They keep mosquitoes at bay. This is the updated version of the classic. I use my thermacell for deer hunting in the deep South. It doesn't bother the deer but the mosquitoes won't touch me once it's going. I bought this version after I lost my original version. I chose it because of the included belt clip. I never cared for the holster needed to attach the other style. I docked 1 star on my review for the following reasons: 1 the belt clip does not stay attached to my hunting pack mole pack style loops. It has fallen off multiple times, once bouncing out of my ATV basket on a trail damaging the unit. 2 the blue indicator light is entirely too bright. This model has a light that tells you when you are "protected". It's a gimmick and the light is counterproductive for my uses. To make it worse it takes removing 4 tiny screws to get the battery out so you are stuck with it in the field of you don't know about this issue before going out. ... show more

  • Well Worth the Extra Money
Color: Gray
I've been a ThermaCELL fan for a couple years. I have two older units that are showing their age and won't stay lit without constant monitoring for the first 10-15 minutes. I knew it was time to replace one of the units and decided on the new MR450 after seeing it on the ThermaCELL site. I got it a couple days later. I am impressed! I like the overall feel. It's not as thick and the added rubberized pieces look kind of hokey, but do work when accidentally dropped on the patio. I thought the LED light was going to be a gimmick, but I find it extremely handy to see I'm out of fuel without constantly picking it up and looking for the orange glow in the top indicator window. I do recommend! I will be replacing my other unit soon and I know the replacement. FYI - The instructions for installing the LED battery are vague at best. Remove the back cover and install the battery is all you get. They don't tell you to pull out the white battery holder and to insert the battery + down in the holder. Got it working, but it took WAY TOO LONG. ... show more
