  • Great Story , History and Style of Movie !
This is a Great Movie, a different style to direct a movie , but great and interesting too and suspenseful !

  • Terrific story that's impossible to believe except that it's true!
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Taken at face value it's a highly entertaining story. But after viewing this I became very curious about this story and started doing a bit of research. I simply couldn't believe that some of the events that this movie portrayed actually occurred. The 2008 documentary "Man On Wire" tells this story through personal accounts of the people involved, including the wire walker himself, Philippe Petit. To my amazement most of the scenes in "The Walk" actually happened in real life. After finding this out I developed an ever greater appreciation for this film, it didn't take as much creative license as I thought it did. If you enjoy this film I strongly urge you to watch "Man On Wire", it's a terrific documentary about this fascinating achievement. Joseph Gordon Levitt did a terrific job as the completely obsessed Philippe Petit, he simply had to walk between these towers. The rest of the cast did an admirable job as well. But for me the star of this film was the imagery of the twin towers. It's as if they were still standing there and were filmed in HD. Many people say that seeing this in 3D was an incredible experience and I can completely see why. Even the way I saw it without 3D it was stunning and actually an emotional experience. While those towers were on screen, they were for that brief amount of time, real. Congratulations to those that did the visual effects for this film because they are truly spectacular and a wonderful tribute to the memory of these American landmarks. In summary this movie is part comedy, part caper, and part deadly serious when the finale arrives at 110 stories in the sky. I enjoyed it thoroughly and recommend it without reservation. ... show more

  • Highly Entertaining
This movie has been overlooked by mainstream audiences, but I think it is one of the best films of 2015. The premise sounds sorta dull, but it kept my interest the entire time. It has the methodical pacing that the movie Titanic had. And like that film, it has a little bit of every genre in it. There is humor. There is romance. At some point the movie turns into a heist film. Then it turns into a suspense film as the main character steps out onto the wire. I saw the movie in 3D at the theater, and I held my breath through most of the scenes at the top of the World Trade Center. I've since watched it at home in 2D, and the tension is only minimally lessened. One of the best parts of the film are the special effects. The World Trade Center is so realistically created that you would never suspect you are watching computer generated imagery. I hope more people discover this gem of a film. ... show more

  • The acting is good, as is the photography
A uniquely conceived approach to this true story, in which the main character breaks the "fourth wall" and occasionally speaks / narrates directly to the camera and audience. At first I found this a bit much, but soon found it helped explain motives and move this true story along briskly. The acting is good, as is the photography, and the final scenes on the wire are very effective. A good movie. ... show more

  • In 1971 my parents gave me a birthday present of ...
In 1971 my parents gave me a birthday present of taking the Circle Line cruise around Manhattan. I remember the Twin Towers when they were about two thirds finished. In 1997 I went to the roof of the South Tower with some visiting cousins. I didn't get nearly as close to the edge where the movie dwells but I saw the same view Petit saw; the corner to corner expanse between the Towers. When you have a structure nearby to give the height scale to your eye the drop is kind of overwhelming (just look at the DVD cover). The wire walk even crossed my mind at the time because I remember when it happened. Sure, the accents might miss a little on the American actors but you can roll with it. It's fascinating how a shoestring effort with some focused research and an immense amount of belief and determination could pull off, and I think the film gets there in the end. You can feel and appreciate the will of Petit by the time he gets on the wire because there is no other way it could have happened. ... show more

  • Remarkable Performance
I'll start this review with a fun fact- The story this is based off of a true story that happened in the 1970s. I'm not sure why I assumed it was more recent than that, but moving on. Given I know little about the actual story this is based off of my review is about how good the movie is as opposed to how historically accurate it is. I realize I am bias in saying this because JGL is one of my favorites actors, however, the word that comes to mind in describing his performance in this film is unprecedented. I have always described his style as "ambitious, but tinkering on the edge of naivety," and this role encompasses EXACTLY that. It's hard not to root for him when be is most confident whilst sympathizing with people that think his goal is too ambitious, and not to mention dangerous. The concept alone may be enough to draw viewers in, but there's a certain amount of authenticity this film that is easily appreciated; the main characters are introduced in a way that is natural and believable. The pace of this film considering what will be the OBVIOUS climax is perfect and let's the viewers "in" on the process of preparing for it. It isn't rushed or dragged out - it's just right. My favorite thing about this movie is the incredible character development that is embodied by Levitt's performance. We see a person that is acting arrogant and insisting that the effort needed to complete wire walking is his alone ("Why should I thank my audience? I'm the one walking the wire") transform in to an individual that completely understands what the phrase "team effort" effectively means ("It is because of you all I was able to walk the wire...") The film score was also one of the greater strengths here, and it goes without saying that the set design was absolutely remarkable. You will mutter "oh my god" a million times under your breath because of how much you may become convinced that you are seeing EXACTLY what Levitt is facing below him during his 'Walk'. Watch this movie now!!! You won't regret it. ... show more

  • Moving story. Good activity. Excellent 3D.
I cannot speak to the experience of watching The Walk in 2D or 4K, although I think the story is solid enough to still move the viewer. We watched this movie in 3D, at home, after barely having heard of it and always disregarding it. Better late than never. The experience of astounding. I highly recommend that if you can, you view the 3D version of this movie. 3D is employed as it should be - throughout the feature - but, most importantly, exactly when the climax of film has you death-gripping your armchair. Most reasonable readers will find their hyperbole sense triggered but I am not kidding an have no need to exaggerate. This movie made me feel that the often ignored and under-employed feature of 3D was MADE for this very purpose - despite is existence decades (some say even longer) prior to the film’s existence. 3D geeks will have their appetites for pop-outs and depth (and more) satisfied but the story and characterization, along with the knowledge that this is inspired by a true story, are what made this story worth telling. The 3D just made it sing. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Good but cheesy compared to documentary; awesome computer graphics of WTC
If you've seen the documentary you're likely to prefer it over this dramatized version of the same story starring a number of Americans playing French people. I love Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and his French is excellent while his French-accented English is a little over-the-top. Compound that with more Americans pretending to have French accents, and it feels cheesy. The computer-generated backdrop of 1970s lower Manhattan and special effects, however are incredibly realistic -- so much so that you'll clench when you see the height from the wire and wonder when the captured this high-res footage of the twin towers! If you haven't seen the documentary, Man on Wire, watch this first and be entertained, then watch the documentary. ... show more
