  • I really liked my Vitamix before, now I use it all the time
Format: Hardcover
I've made several of the recipes so far, I like them all. My favorite is the Tomato Vinaigrette, this has become a favorite topping for burgers, tacos, vegetables etc. The family history of the Vitamix family and whole food focus of the recipes is great, a few more photos would be nice, but a wealth of information. I had some roasted acorn squash in the freezer, so I substituted it into the "Sassy Sweet Potato Soup" recipe on page 103, added some rosemary and a little curry, then I left out the honey since I'm not a fan of sweet soups, it was incredible, fully of ginger-y goodness! The creamy parsley sauce is like a more flavorful chimmichuri sauce, I keep a squeeze bottle of it in the fridge all the time now, it is great. I really had my doubts about the not-so-cheesy cheese sauce, I've made it about eight times now. I'm normally not a fan of "fake cheese" at all, but I love nacho cheese, I just hate how bad it is for you, this tastes great and is healthy, my little girl loves it too. I've started adding 1/2 tsp chipotle powder and smoked paprika, recently I've been adding some jalapenos, love it, really good and don't feel terrible about eating it or feeding it to my kids. About nine months ago I started having smoothies for breakfast for health and if I prep them the night before it is time efficient in the morning too, I've been very happy with the results, I feel better, lost some weight and look better. Then about six months ago out of the blue my dad had a heart attack, the doctor gave him a new diet which he has been sticking to religiously. After things calmed down a little I started bugging him about trying the smoothies, healthy soups, etc. I finally got him to try it and he has noticed huge changes, he lost close to 20 pounds on top of what he lost from the diet the doctors gave him!!! Both he and my mom keep mentioning how much more energy he has now too!!! He was napping a lot before, even over the phone I can how much more energetic and happy he is. This is all largely because of what I have learned from my Vitamix and this book. You can't put a price on health and happiness. ... show more

  • Chock-a-block full of great recipes!
Format: Kindle
I have had my Vitamix for a week and love it. You can't keep me out of the kitchen! The cookbook that came with my machine is great but I was looking for more gluten-free, egg-free and vegetarian/vegan recipes to fit my dietary restrictions. As I live in Australia, I purchased the Kindle edition first, honestly, because I didn't want to have to wait for the book in the mail (and to check whether the print edition was worth spending the extra money on). I've only had the Kindle edition for a few days and have read it from cover to cover, bookmarking all the recipes I'm going to try in the coming weeks. I've already made a few of the recipes and I've found they're adaptable too for changing and substituting ingredients to meet dietary requirements. Occasionally the recipes make suggestions for substituting ingredients too, which is greatly appreciated. Some standout recipes are: Falafel, Quinoa Black Bean Burgers, Mixed Berry Purée, Peach Soy Sherbet and Banana Freeze. There are lots of others I can't wait to try! This cookbook is packed full of healthy, easy recipes and clear instructions. There's also an introduction to the Vitamix history and the author's family which is nice to read. Overall, the author in conjunction with her company's dietitians, has done a very nice job of compiling lots of healthy, easy, quick and new recipes for Vitamix owners. I'll be purchasing the print edition too. Thank you. Highly recommended! Note to editor: is the Muhammara (Red Pepper & Walnut Dip) recipe missing walnuts in the ingredient list!? ... show more

  • A good basis for developing your own recipes
Format: Hardcover
Many or most of the recipes require the Dry Grain Container, so be advised. Although the advert for the book said it was for the Whole Foods diet, the recipes make use of sugar, butter, and oil, so be advised you will need to find substitutes if you are really doing the Whole Foods Plant Based diet. I use Agave Nectar in place of sugar, Miyoko's European-Style Vegan Butter for the butter, and Apple Sauce in place of oil. ... show more

  • Great Choice
Format: Hardcover
Finding this cookbook as "used" was such a great deal. I was holding off buying a new book because you never know what the recipes are like. When it popped up as "used " it was worth the risk at half the cost. And. This book is brand actually new...not a mark, a fold, or evidence of having ever been opened...thank you St. Vincent's!!!!!! I will be looking for books from you again. New to Vitamix so I wanted recipes geared towards the blender, and this is a winner. ... show more

  • Expected more, somehow
Format: Hardcover
Many recipes, good instructions, but recipe choices didn't always fit with the recipes I was planning to make. The size of this book made me think it would be the ultimate, but not for me, unfortunately. Still a beautifully photographed and put together recipe book.
