  • The Title of the books says it all!!
I love this book. It is written very clearly. Some of the starting points are indeed geared toward the very beginner but also serve as a great refresher for those that have been freeze drying for a bit. Tons of suggestions on what to freeze dry and recipes with STEPS to follow. Great suggestion on reconstituting or rehydrating. Batch logs included that are down loadable. Kudos to the contributors that put this book together. I think this book should be recommended by the manufacturer of freeze dryers or included with the purchase of a freeze dryer. ... show more

  • A must-have item
This is far from the little manual that comes with the Freeze Dryer. So much more information! From start to full-on recipes, and not just the recipes but all the other information that is extremely helpful with all the extras in-between. I wish I would have found this earlier in my freeze drying process. I can now move forward and know that I'm freeze drying properly and efficiently. I highly recommend this for all new freeze drying folks. ... show more

  • Excellent resource for freeze drying - especially for a newbie (me)
Love the book. Most I'd purchased don't provide instructions on rehydrating your FD food, but this book does. And I was surprised at the list of things that I could FD after reading this book. I wish that I hadn't spent so much on other books seeking the answers provided in this book. I think it's a "must have" for newbies, but also a great resource for those experienced with freeze drying. ... show more

  • The ONLY Beginner freeze drying book you'll ever need.
I love this book! Its so helpful to have a guide to know not only how to freeze dry a food but how to rehydrate it. I was constantly looking at You tube videos and then I didn't know if I was doing it right. I especially love the recipes at the back. Ive never found a recipe that I could easily make up into a cheese ball. The recipes are easy and they don't require ingredients that you may have never heard of. I especially love the egg casserole and the tuna sandwiches. They require a little extra of the ingredients but I have found that I have enough to share and besides enough to eat. I bought 4 of these for my kids and two for my neighbors. I really love this book! ... show more

  • Such a Great Resource! Easy to read, use and reference!
I recently bought a 2023 Harvest Right Medium Pro freeze dryer. I ordered this book to jump start my process and get right into freeze drying and preserving foods. I LOVE how well thought-out and simply written it is! There is a lot of useful information that you can quickly absorb and still get right into processing foods. The quick reference guide for all the different types of food is fantastic! It's saving me from potentially wasting a lot of time and money experimenting and learning all of this by trial and error. I have found that my machine finishes batches in less time than some of the ones listed in hte book (probably because it's newer?), but I still love the ability to reference the cataloged knowledge because it helps me plan which foods to run through together based on similar processing times. This is a must have for anyone new to the freeze drying world! ... show more

  • helpful
I have always wanted to get into freeze drying different foods because it would save so much money if you could cut up onions, peppers and other foods that you really don't use in a whole and the shelf life of freeze dried foods are 25 year or more. This books explains what you can freeze dry and what you can't and the many uses for the freeze dried foods. This book lets you know everything you need which looks to be a lot but most of it comes with the machine the machine is a lot of money but if your family waste a lot of food it will pay for it's self. At the end of the book it explains the fruit and veggies how to freeze dry and how long and what you will need to go in detail and also they have some good recipes at the end of the book and some freeze dried batch logs. ... show more
