Greatest hits of Steve Miller

  • Still a Satisfying Collection
Even though this complilation contains music mainly from two albums, "Fly Like an Eagle" and "Book of Dreams", this still is a worth while album. The album has single versions of "Swingtown", "Jet Airliner", "Jungle Love", "The Joker" and "Fly Like an Eagle". The edited versions may bother some, but if you want to remember the way they were presented on most radio pop music stations, then this is for you. With "Swingtown", it is just the intro that is shortened by 20 seconds. Likewise, the intro to "Jungle Love" is shortened, but not by very much. The major difference is with "Jet Airliner", not only does it have the short intro, but the lyrics are changed a bit. You see, back in the 70's there was a low tolerance for profanity on most pop stations. The single version has the lyrics, "cause I don't want to get caught in any of that funky 'kicks' going down in the city". It was rather tacky, but it satisfied the requirements to not get the song potentially banned from radio airplay. The great thing about this collection that the album cuts used to fill up the album are great songs that may have been played on album rock stations or appeared on "B" sides of the hit singles. This album was a popular title to purchase on cassette tape or 8 track back in 1978 and pop it into your car stereo and impress your friends as you were cranking "Serenade" or "The Stake" as you were driving by. If you want to re-live the nostalgia, go ahead and get this album. Also get the "Anthology" or "The Best of 1968 - 1973" to get the early recordings. ... show more

  • Great CD in perfect condition
Tightly shrink wrapped, the cd was in perfect condition. Although I am already overloaded with CD's Amazon offered a deal I just could not pass on. Has all the popular, top of the cart, song from Steve Miller. As with all the greatest hits releases, I do feel there are a few songs that should have been replaced by much better ones but all in all if you are interested to hear what Steve Miller is all about, this would be the cd that I would recommend you start with. Great cd from a great artist. Nothing compares. ... show more

  • Great Album Great Sound
Great classic album. The remastering on this pressing is very nice. All voices and instruments clear as a bell and with punch! Would've given it 5 stars, however the record could be quieter. If you have a high end turntable, you'll hear a distinct hum (for lack of a better word) in the background but certainly does not take away from the overall sound quality as you can pretty much only hear it between songs. Very nice release and one of the better 180 gram remasters out there. The original sound was not altered as much as improved on. Update: All this praise I gave the record doesn’t matter because I got a brand new turntable which came with a much better needle (Ortifon 2m Red) and as soon as I put this album on, I noticed a wavy sound as if it were warped. Upon looking closer I noticed that this record (as with So Many) other remasters has an Off Center Spindle Hole!! Again!!!!!! Why are all the remasters being made with this flaw!!!! Before we had to worry about warps on new records and now this seems to be the new flaw pressing plants like to do! Now I gotta scrap this record and try the Ultimate Hits! Dangit! Hope that one doesn’t have the same flaw! This is ridiculous. At least vinyl was pressed right in the 80s and before! We never had to worry about stupid pressing defects back then! Goes to show that not Everything improves with time. Apparently we have cock-eyed pressing plant employees nowadays! ... show more
