I chose this step as I wanted the option of a higher, adaptable platform. I use the six riser version for stepping with music to get stronger after a hip surgery, and have added another pair of risers for PT exercises requiring it. I bought both this and the yes4all, less expensive version to test. This felt more stable, therefore I kept it, despite the two indentations/ channels beneath the top covering. They make the top surface feel uneven under feet with socks on them so one would always wear sneakers. I know that they give the top its stability, like mini beams... however, it would be an easy fix to add injection-molded components along these to make the top actually flat with minimal cost, if the manufacturer wanted to. ... show more

I purchased the original STEP platform in 1989, and I wore it out by doing step for over 15 years. I decided to return to doing step aerobics because of the good results I obtained while using it. In my view the original STEP platform is perfect for exercising. I prefer the longer platform vs the shorter platform. Very well made product. ... show more

I should've just purchased the tried and true Original Step from the start since I'm very familiar with them from using them in the countless step aerobics classes I've taken over the years. At the very least, I should've researched a little more thoroughly before settling on the exercise step (different brand/manufacturer) I eventually wound up buying. Though the first step I purchased has an overall rating of 4.5 stars, somehow I missed that there were only about 50 reviews when I made my purchase, and that a good number of the 4 and 5 star reviews were NOT written by verified purchasers. In comparison, The Original Step has an overall rating of 4.8 stars with nearly 5000 reviews, which were all written by verified purchasers from what I've seen. Performance-wise, The Original Step is 1000% better than the other exercise step I purchased (which I'm returning). The Original Step is sturdy and stays put on any surface, but I still use a yoga mat underneath for extra security. The other step had absolutely no grip or traction and kept lifting and shifting even during a low impact/low intensity workout with a yoga mat placed underneath. Aside from that, the Original Step was only slightly (approx $14) more expensive than the other step. The price of the other step has since dropped by almost $20, but it's still overpriced if you ask me. Bottom line, don't even entertain buying a different brand. IF you do decide to go with a different brand, be sure to compare the specs with that of The Original Step. And make sure you thoroughly check the reviews. If it has a high rating, but a majority of the 4 and 5 star reviews were NOT written by verified purchasers...PASS! ... show more
