Description

How can a man protect his family from an evil centuries old? How can he kill something already dead? And how can he face his past to ensure his future? Blake Price is the most celebrated mystery writer since Agatha Christie, but a violent tragedy has sent him and his family to a secluded cottage in the English countryside, a place where they hope to recover in peace. Where they can pretend the past never happened. But for Blake, trying to keep his family safe becomes impossible when a mysterious trinket forces itself into his life and unleashes a terrifying evil. By the time he realizes what he's done, it's already too late. Iain Rob Wright's creepiest, most accomplished novel yet. Grab your copy today. "Iain Rob Wright scares the Hell out of me." - J.A. Konrath, author of The List "Iain Rob Wright is sick and twisted!" - David Moody, bestselling author QUESTIONS FOR THE AUTHOR How would you describe this book? It's a classic "spooky" tale where things start off a little peculiar and slowly progress towards downright disturbing. It's a book heavy on atmosphere and characters. Can you tell us a bit about the plot? Sure! It is about a family. An ordinary family struggling to put the past behind them. When an evil force affects their lives, it forces them to come to terms with things a lot quicker than they had expected. It's about a man fighting to keep his wife and son from harm, but making mistakes along the way. What author has most influenced you as a writer? Like many other horror authors, Stephen King is the man I most respect. Like King, my books are about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. I, too, like to kill my darlings. Anything you would like to say to someone buying this book? Yeah, I hope it gives them nightmares, and if it does they should drop drop me a line and let me know. Other than that, just a big thank you for giving one of my books a try. I cannot express the gratitude I have that people allow me to do what I do for a living. I'm the luckiest guy in the world. • Loved this book
I loved that it was a quick and easy read. Just what I needed right now. The characters are great, I could pronounce all their names, and the story was straight forward. Good nob. Can't wait to start my next Iain Rob Wright book.

  • Good story
I really liked all the twists and turns the story took. I just wish the ending was a bit happier, or more ambiguous.

  • Final Destination-ish
I really liked the premise of this book, a picture frame that curses the people in the picture within. It was a bit like Final Destination where bad luck hurts/kills people. BUT it got a bit murky with the background of the Satan worshiper who created the frame. I do give the author points for trying to explain why the frame was cursed but it seemed to fall short. I wish he had written a few chapters from the evil guy’s point of view along with his weird followers. Also I wish the background of Blake and Liz was explored a bit more. I hated Liz as she was a whining martyr/victim for the first half of the book—you do find out why she acts how she does but by that point I already thought she was a shrew. I really didn’t care much about Blake either. I did like Stevie, the brother, but even his story seemed forced. This book seemed more like a rough draft of a story rather than the finished story. It would be nice if the author went back and fleshed out the story a bit more. ... show more

  • Unbelievably believable
Scared the daylights out of me again. Why do I keep reading your books? Because you take the unbelievable and make it believable in a great story that is hard to put down. You keep writing and I will keep reading!

  • Nicely Done
I was really intrigued by the premise of this book; I was looking forward to it greatly. I wasn't disappointed on the whole. The plot is really good and flows well. Getting to know the characters was a treat. I'm a horror aficionado, but even I didn't figure out the final act in this show. There were a few plot points here and there that got lost, but not to the detriment of the story. The few grammar/editing errors weren't distracting at all. Overall, a very pleasant creepy read. I do want to mention that I did not read the short stories at the end of this book. I saw mentioned elsewhere that some cruelty to house pets was within the short stories. I don't like that kind of thing at all, so I skipped them. I'm perfectly happy with just IRW's story. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. ... show more

  • Great read, s***ty service
I really enjoyed the book, as I enjoy all of I.R. Wright's work. What I didn't enjoy was having to pay for it twice plus spend 40 minutes on the phone with Audible support doing stupid crap like sign in and out of my account and "turn it off and on again" to still not have the book play correctly. Several chapters were missing the recording of their last several unites. One was short by more than half. I had to buy it on Kindle to supplement the places where the recording was entirely missing. After several MONTHS went by I received the email I was promised would come within 24-48 hours from Audible support, assuring me they were really sorry about the issue and would let me know when it was fixed. Since then, nothing. Great read, s***ty customer service. ... show more

  • Just tape your pictures on the wall from now on
Wow, this was a pretty good read. The characters seemed fairly well-developed. I wouldn't say it's totally predictable, but of course you know from the outset, that this picture frame is bad news. Even the little kid figured that one out. I didn't see the ending coming until I was dead on it. Not what I expected to happen at all. It was good to see the why and the how behind the character's flaws. To see how they arrived at this point in their lives gave me a connection to them, made them seem real. I felt the story flowed pretty well and at a reasonable pace. It was creepy, scary, atmospheric...I could feel the darkness surrounding these people and I was pulling for (some of) them to come out on the other side and the others to get their comeuppance. A real page-turner for sure! ... show more
