Do you have an embedded memory of the first time you tasted something that was a life long passion, or noticed a scent you could never forget but remember for decades? For me good authors and good novels have long lasting memories and within two pages I felt Cap Daniels must have written this first in a series just for me and like minded readers. There may be better writers. There may be better plots or plot development but this author hits all my notes. I look forward to the balance of his books. I read about 200 books a year from selected authors of Westerns, War & Military, detective mysteries and espionage novels. This is my first Cap Daniels novel. While finding it by Amazon recommendation, I will eventually consume all of them. Don't miss the boat! ADDED: just finished Book 5 and they have each been very worth reading. Same characters (and they are) and the beat goes on, with an evolving story line. The star of each uses flashback to bring you up to the present with enough memories (and regrets?) just in case you read them out of order. But each one so far adding to those remembered tastes and scents. Promise - no stinkers! ... show more

  • Thrilling, fun and great international espionage!
Format: Hardcover
Book Review - When collegiate baseball star Chase Fulton suffers a freak injury that shatters his dreams of becoming a Major League Baseball player, his future looks bleak until he’s recruited into quasi-governmental covert operations, where his training as an assassin and covert intelligence operative launches him into a world tense with danger, intrigue, and secrecy. In Cap Daniels’ “The Opening Chase” the first book in the Chase Fulton series, Daniels brings realism and life to this character that is impressive and believable in his adventures. I was caught up in this first story from the very beginning. The characters were well developed, and the plot was fast, dramatic, and adventurous. I love the aviation and maritime connections to the story. This was a fun and exciting read and is anticipated to be a must-read series. A quick read that wastes no time getting into the action and not “cheesy” in its characters and plotlines. Thrilling, fun and great international espionage, this book is why I enjoy action thrillers… ... show more

  • Nice start of a series, too bad they get so short
Format: Kindle
I have passed this series many times after seeing the page count drop 100 pages from #1 to #2 and just over 200 pages in others. Book #8 is under 250 pages for $5 but #5-7 are $3.99 and then #8-10 are $4.99. What drew me was Cap being an Air Force Veteran (Air Force veteran's parent here) as this year I am sampling authors who are veterans as I try to pick something different each year in my quest for new authors to keep me in reasonably priced Kindle books as I gave up physical books as ran out of room for them and won't pay physical copy price for a Kindle book as that was not supposed to be how it is, but some are so dropping those authors and searching for well-written books to keep adding in so I can keep to my comfortable 100+ book purchases a year plus others I sample to find new authors and I broke my rule of not buying books over 300 pages, as no matter how good a story is, it is not done justice in less than 300 pages and I am left feeling shortchanged knowing it took longer to write than it takes me to read it! That being said, the plus is I LOVE, LOVE Chase Fulton...I have a feeling I have either sampled this or read prior to owning my Kindles as I knew too much of what was going to happen but still enjoyed it again!. Love the adventure/missions/kicking back and really enjoy the core characters that carry from one book to the next (again, less backstory more story please!) I read book 1 over 2 days as had other things going on but then books #2-3 into #4 were 1 day. If you are looking for easy reading these are perfect, for moderate reading have a go at learning the Russian phrases but not sure how many others do that as they read. ... show more

  • Good opening story
Format: Kindle
This book tells us who the main character, Chase, is and what kind of man he is. It is a good introduction to the series. The action races toward a satisfying conclusion as mysteries are unfolded in dramatic fashion. I’m ready to read the next book!

  • Excellent from beginning to end Excellent from beginning to end
Format: Kindle
This review is for the first seven "Chase" books. Having finished the seventh one just today, I feel as if I should forward a big "Thank You" to Cap Daniels for writing such wonderful stories. Having been schooled in the military as a Navy scuba diver, an Army parachutist, Army and Marine Corps helicopter pilot (Vietnam) and later a Marine F-4 Phantom pilot, and even later as an Airline Transport Pilot flying for an outfit called Evergreen, I found it positively refreshing that the sequences in which those kinds of activities occurred in the novels were captured accurately and concisely. It is so much better to read of such exploits when they are written by someone who has "been there, done that" than someone who simply wished that he had, and merely did his research on the Internet. All of that is to say that there is a sense of "The Real" throughout these books that is hard to find elsewhere in modern "action adventure" books. The characters are artfully created and named. (I even loved Earline.). One gets, again, a sense of reality in that the author seems to know people as well as he knows how to request a flight clearance or permission to taxi to the active runway. Really good job of characterizing in each of the books. He also knows his way around a two-stage regulator and a parachute. And that is all wound around very good stories and plots that kept me up all night on two occasions, the most recent being last night, when I finished book 7 at six this morning, having slept not at all. Mr. Daniels also knows how to write, that is, he can construct sentences and paragraphs, and suspend belief and create tension and suspense as few others can. The books are edited very well. The only grammar mistakes that I found were surrounding the common misuse of the word "like," instead of the correct words "as" or "as if." But that is pretty picky on my part, considering that I actually search for errors in written works, not just stumble upon them, and I could find none worth mentioning apart from the above. These books are really well done, from beginning to end. And there's another book coming (Number 8!) for which I am anxiously awaiting. I began to think, considering my own experiences, that I should have written books like this; but that is "writer's conceit" at it's best. I could never write them, if only because I know nothing about how to sail a boat. That pretty much ended that train of thought. Anyway, you've done us all a favor by writing these books, Cap Daniels. I do hope that you continue onward to write others after you have completed this series. Most sincerely, retired U.S. Marine aviator, and other things. Only age 73. ... show more
