  • Warning spoilers, Fast paced, satisfying ending
Format: Kindle
This book is based on a story about a young child, Vivian age four who suddenly disappears on a family outing at the beach. The family is led to believe she drowned and deeply mourned her death. Fast forward ten years and we see a broken father who has lost his wife and she has moved on while he has clung to his pain. What annoyed me about this book was how unrealistic the relationship is described between the father and the teenage girl (he has found and believes to be his daughter Vivian. The way grey interact and form a relationship is completely ridiculous. There are too many things left out, for example how creepy and dangerous the whole situation truly is between the two. How there are no actions or emotions that the teenage girl would usually feel if she was in a similar situation with an older man. It all made me wince. Especially how the story had descriptions of how the father, Keaton wanted to hug his (now a teen ) daughter during the first part of the relationship. How he smelled her and noticed she smelled of “coconuts and the sea” creepy. How stalked her and found her workplace and visited her at home and she willingly let him iMacs also felt like she wanted him to be her dad all happening within a weeks period. It just felt really wrong and obviously was not carefully constructed to represent a real life situation This book is for readers who enjoy…mystery, kidnapping scenario without disturbing content, thrillers, do,estimate drama, loss, duspensful yet carries no disturbing content or graphic violence and is a easy and quick read. It’s not for those who want to read a book that has well developed and complex characters, offers some dark and disturbing content, is scary, has horror aspects, is twisted and keeps you guessing, has a complex and hard to unravel story and ends with a shock. Not for true horror fans and is a very vanilla type read. I did enjoy it, liked the ending andappreciated its easy to read factor. However, the main content was unbelievably ... show more

  • Quite a good read
Format: Kindle
The Other Side is an e-short by Canadian author, Chevy Stevens. It is a very short story (half the content of the download is a preview of the author’s next book, Always Watching), and which involves Staff Sergeant Sandy McBride, one of the police officers in Never Knowing. On a background of some of the events in Never Knowing, Sandy learns some new information about the murder of her mother when Sandy was just six years old, a crime attributed to her violent and missing father. This small dose of Stevens may lack the usual build-up of tension that marks her psychological thrillers but it does add another dimension to Never Knowing and there is a twist or two to keep it interesting. It is important to read this AFTER reading Never Knowing if the reader wants to avoid spoilers. Quite a good read. ... show more

  • Two Murders
Format: Kindle
Staff Sgt McBride and her partner Billy had been on the Campsite Killer case for quite a while, but never seemed to catch a break. Until a domestic violence case sounded familiar. The thing is that Staff Sgt McBride was thrown into a closet by her mother to hide, while someone had raped and murder her mother while she listened. She thought maybe it was her father, because he never came home. Two cases that have similarities, one long past and one just yesterday. The writing wasn’t bad, but I confess to getting confused about what was happening a time or two. Three star short story. ... show more

  • Unnecessary Reading if back-tracking.
Format: Kindle
You all know how much I love Chevy Steven's books but sadly, this is the one that I don't love. I will even go further to say I wished I saved my money. I just saw a short story by her, not bothering to read the description or anything and bought it because I love everything else I've read. That was poor judgement on my part. I would have noticed, had I read the synopsis, that I didn't really need to back-track. Honestly, my curiosity might have won out either way though. This short story should be read before reading Always Watching. If you've already read it, then don't bother with this one, if not, then yes, read it. The ending is whack too. Ended way too abruptly. I actually said out loud, 'What the heck?!' I just expected so much more. I surely won't hold it against the author though. She is an incredible storyteller and one I will surely read every time. I suggest you do too! ... show more
