  • Might be the perfect backpack.
Size: 30L Color: Tnf Dark Grey Heather/Tnf Medium Grey He...
Well, this thing is just impressive. I did a bunch of research looking for a new backpack, and had it narrowed down to this one and the High Sierra Fat Boy, which I also have written a review for. I originally went with the Fat Boy, considering it has more liters of space and was about half the price, it seemed like a good value. While that pack can absolutely hold more stuff than it seems it even should, it's just not comfortable. This Recon backpack, in my opinion, is everything you could want out of a pack in this price range - and then some. Allow me to explain... The first thing is the shape of the pack. It is more "tall" than wide, and this is very important. As it gets loaded up, the weight is perfectly distributed and stays "up and down", rather than the pack pushing out and making you feel like you have to work against it to not tip over backwards. Combine this design with the chest and waist straps, and this thing is not going anywhere if you don't want it to - very good for hiking, etc. Next is the comfort, which is top-notch. The straps are nice and thick, but not "squishy", they feel substantial. They are perforated in the top of the shoulder area which is going to allow them to breathe in hot weather. The material over the foam is like a thicker basketball jersey mesh, which is very comfortable and allows you to move around. The back has really well-designed foam "pockets", which have channels to help ventilate the area. Inside the back is some sort of board (assuming plastic), that keeps the shape of the pack intact no matter what's in the main compartment. I have seen a couple other reviews describe this pack as "heavy", and I completely disagree - I think it's this board that might make it seem like it's heavy, but with the pack loaded, this is what helps it keep the weight distributed nice and evenly. It doesn't feel heavy at all on your shoulders. Lastly, the compartments are insanely useful and well-designed. The secondary pouch is particularly impressive, going all the way down to the bottom of the bag and giving plenty of space. The various pockets and compartments within this part can take pretty much whatever you throw in there. The main compartment does not spread out as wide front to back as other packs, but it is very deep and still can swallow up plenty of items. There isn't really a feature on this pack that I don't think is awesome, including the front mesh pouch for quick access and the double bottle holders. This is just simply a well-designed and very comfortable backpack, and well worth the $75. The only slight issue I have with it is that it will definitely not stay upright on its own, and will need to lean on something or of course be hung, but that is really nitpicky anyways. The only other thing to watch out for is that the price varies wildly here on Amazon depending on your color choice, which kind of sucks, but it's not really in their control anyways. ... show more

  • Plenty of laptop space and padding for daily carry of my 17" gaming laptop. Love it. Go get one
I was looking for an upgrade in size from Lenovo Legion 17" backpack for my gaming laptop and accessories. I found for my daily carry between a couple books, large gaming laptop, and accessories - I was maxing out the size and warping the zippers. I was pleasantly surpised at the 40L space finding there was plenty of room for my 17" laptop (madatory) and the large compartment has plenty of room for Moleskin notebooks, laptop charger, headphone case, and a controller with room spare. Love the color which is very different than my usual black backpacks I've bought for 4 decades. Good style, about right for the money and materials while staying relatively lightweight. Material thickness and padding around the laptop was really important and the best part of this bag in my opinion. Laptop is extremely well insulated and feels very safe. Probably not very versitle in the light brown color but black and grey Im sure is plenty professional but not for me this time around. Solid versalility and functionality is on point. Glad I did my research and quality of materials on Northface doesnt dissapoint. For someone that uses his backpack literally everyday - the Router is perfect. A+ recommendedation and though big - doesnt feel or look that way. Thanks NF ... show more

  • Great for students or for everyday commuters
I’ve been using this North Face backpack for about a month and a half, and it’s held up incredibly well so far. The build quality feels very durable, and I really enjoy the unique mustard-yellow color—it stands out in a good way. The interior is very spacious, easily fitting my MacBook, iPad, and all their accessories, along with textbooks and notebooks for my classes. There’s even enough room to pack a spare change of clothes when needed. I also appreciate the multiple compartments that make organizing everything easier. One of the best features is the vented and cushioned back support—it makes carrying heavier loads much more comfortable. The sternum and waist straps are a great addition too, helping to distribute the weight evenly and making it more ergonomic for longer walks across and off campus. Overall, this backpack combines functionality, comfort, and style. I’m very satisfied with it and plan to keep using it well into the future. ... show more

  • comfortable and good size for tall people
Size: Good for tall people. not that big but not that small. Waterproof: Not clear if the main fabric is waterproof or not, but it gets dirty easily and feels more like water resistant. Also, zippers do not look like they are waterproof! Comfort: Pretty comfortable to wear, maybe too large for not-tall people. Interior: interior design is good, though feels a bit dense inside maybe because the main compartment can not be fully opened as it can be on many modern backpacks. Color: blue is good but was expected to be more darker blue. Pockets: low front pocket is a bit weird: it is cool how it opens but need to get accustomed to it, I mean, what was the reason for this design it is not clear because it is not adding convenience. That "reverse" pocket on the front is an also kind of weird: why not to open it from the top? why opening from bottom? It can be ok for storing a t-shirt but no logical why it was made this way. Side pockets: they are good and have lot of room. Bottom: it has some kind of leather cover at the bottom so can put it on the floor and then wipe it easily. Overall recommended, price is good and lot of pockets and room inside. ... show more

  • Just get it
Size: One Size Color: Tnf Black/Tnf Black-npf
I originally got this to carry my laptop but found that this backpack would be the perfect companion to travel with. It holds an impressive amount of items and surprisingly does not feel heavy despite the many items I added inside of it. It is very comfortable to wear. Material seems sturdy and of good quality. Many compartments so it can serve many purposes.. not just for a laptop. Best backpack purchase I have ever made. Excellent value for the money if you are looking for a great backpack! ... show more

  • Sturdy, great laptop protection, poor pocket design
Size: One Size Color: Tnf Black/Tnf Black-npf
Very sturdy and handles the heavy weight for carrying several books. Outstanding compartment for my laptop and for a portfolio. It offer great protection for my laptop. The back support is also wonderful. I can use it for multiple purposes, school, travel, day hikes. However, weaknesses: the additional storage are not easy to use. The pockets are flat, which leaves little space to put anything substantial. It has a lot of little pockets but the items need to be mostly flat. It has a big U-shaped front zipper pocket but no depth to it. The cloth lined top pocket has a little depth for glasses but would want to leave anything fragile in that pocket on a hot sunny day. It would get too hot. There is another top loading pocket next to the books that is not useful either except for a couple small items. I’ll use the bag regardless because of the laptop and book compartments are great with excellent back support for carrying heavy items. Idea: the design is an easy fix. There is an open space above the book compartment. The neighboring pocket could be built like a shelf with depth, that would go above the book area. It could be used for midsize items like headphones, backup batteries, windbreaker, camera equipment, etc. for now the U-shape big front pocket and the pocket next to the books compartment is mostly useless. They have no depth. ... show more

  • Right backpack for every occasion.
Size: 40L Color: Meld Grey/Tnf Black-npf
I was worried that 40l backpack would be bulky and slightly oversized but this is not the case with this one! This backpack is absolutely amazing and everything about it feels just right: size, quality, pockets, look. Thanks North Face for manufacturing such a great product. • One of the best backpacks I’ve had
Size: One Size Color: Tnf Navy/Tnf Black-npf
This has been my favorite backpack by far. It isn’t too big or too small and can be adjusted to do both. There are many pockets and pouches to organize your gear. It appears to be very durable (I haven’t had it long). I use it for work and for travel and have been very pleased with its performance. It would be cool if they made more color options. I definitely like the look of it too, it’s sleek and unobtrusive. Pros: - carry on size - lap top and iPad compartment - large middle compartment that can fit two packing cubes - many organization slots - adjustable bottom straps depending on what size you want the backpack to be - whistle - appears to be very durable - novelty straps to fit different sizes shoulders - front handle - easily accessible front pouch Cons: - limited color options ... show more
