  • Great backpack
Color: Tnf Navy/Tnf Black Size: One Size
Bought for my husband for work. He loves it and says it is not only very comfortable but also holds a lot!

  • Quality backpack, worth the money
Color: Tnf Navy/Tnf Black Size: One Size
I used my old North Face Slingshot backpack for nearly 18 years, so it was time to upgrade. I always liked the design of the Recon and chose to purchase this backpack. I've never seen the navy backpack in person, but since it's my favorite color, I pulled the trigger. When I received it, I was surprised by how nice and sleek it looked. All the compartments were thoughtfully designed and are practical. The soft material they used for the interior of the front compartment is perfect for phones, glasses, and other things you want to keep safe. The backpack was bigger than expected, and is more than adequate to carry my everyday work items. The straps are comfortable and sturdy. The external fleece-lined pocket is a huge upgrade from my old Slingshot strings that could only carry clothes. I don't use the buckle straps, so it does look a little sloppy at times. However, you can adjust them so they're not in your way. The bottom of the backpack looks durable and it's very unlikely any holes will form in the future. Since my old backpack lasted so long, I'm confident this one will last longer. Overall, I think it's a quality backpack and I'm getting more than I paid for. ... show more

  • Overall decent backpack
Color: Tnf Navy/Tnf Black Size: One Size
I like how this looks and it has a good deal of useful organization. Two external water bottle pouches that don't dip too much into the main compartment. The back compartment is large enough for a water bladder or a computer along with other admin items. I like that I can use it for a hike and then turn around and use it for work. Its just one compartment without separate organization for a computer, iPad...etc, but I like that better as it does not take up a lot of room. Note that there is not a lot of padding under it so a computer will bang against the floor if you drop it. The main compartment is just a big dump pouch. The main problem with this pack is in this compartment. The admin compartment, when full, will dip significantly into this large area and take up a lot of room. This is a problem with the pack and the main reason why I dropped it to four stars. That admin area should not take up room into the main space. The admin pouch has enough organization while also allowing you to see what is in it. The last compartment is a big fleece-like lined space. Its a big space for sunglasses and is strange how the zipper is half way through it so its not a good compartment to open while it is standing up. Lastly, the dump pouch is really useful to store some quick items you need. I just wish it was not as see through so you are now showing off what is stashed in it. Padding on the back and straps are OK. All in all, its a decent backpack that could use a few tweaks to get it into the five star category. ... show more

  • Best of the 3 North Face backpacks I reviewed
Color: Tnf Navy/Tnf Black Size: One Size
I bought a Surge, a Recon, and Borealis backpacks to decided which would work best for me. I ended up choosing the Recon as it had the best space for my needs. It had a good balance of sorting spaces and general purposes spaces. The netted front area is good for misc items. The Surge's extra front pocket was good if you like extra pockets and slots for pens and such. And I felt the Borealis front webbing was too easy to catch on the plane and had no value to my needs. All three backpacks were built well and I like the different color choices each offered. ... show more

  • Not as appealing
Color: Tnf Navy/Tnf Black Size: One Size
The previous version of the recon was better. I have been using the previous version for quite a while now and was quite impressed with the quality. I bought this for my family member because the previous versions were discontinued but this new version is bland, it doesn't feel as sturdy, the straps are a bit off. ... show more

  • Impressive back pack, but defective
Color: Tnf Navy/Tnf Black Size: One Size
Impressive backpack, but defective. Northface, the name speaks for itself. Quality apparel, from Denali fleece jackets to backpacks, it's a reputable brand. I reviewed many backpacks, but I settled for the Northface Recon. I love the name, I ordered this backpack for short getaways like this particular one, the 4th of July. Upon receiving my backpack, I was impressed with the quality or materials and the thoughtful build of this pack. It has pockets everywhere. When I backed it with the typical weekend gear, I tried it on to adjust the shoulder straps, I'm 5' 5" and my weight is 175lbs. I have a husky to medium build, Unfortunately during this phase the right shoulder strap just came off, as if it wasn't sown in correctly. The seam itself is stitched properly but the strap attachment wasn't sown into the seam enough for the stitching to catch the strap. I noticed some other reviews also made mention of this issue, it could be a bad batch or a quality control issue. In either case, I loved the look and build of this pack, but at this time, it's being returned for a refund. Northface, if you read this review, I would definitely continue to purchase your apparel and other gear but in this case I'm disappointed and I expect more. If you would like to send me a backpack to test and review, I would. At this time , I will continue to use my old but faithful backpack. I gave you 2 stars because it's a good looking and versatile pack with plenty of storage for my needs, YKK Zippers work as they should and the double pockets for water bottles on each side are a plus for me. Unfortunately the strap ruined it. Fix the defect and this pack would be a top contender IMHO. Hope this review helps. ... show more
