Description

“Look, you’re a nice girl but I don’t think we should see each other anymore.” The voicemail ends and I freeze in the dentist’s chair as I realize… I’ve just been dumped on live radio. It took the most humiliating break-up for me to see that my life is in serious need of a do-over. Cue my anti New Year’s resolutions that even I can’t fail at:Stop dating. (Men are the worst.)Stop trying to lose weight. (I’m never giving up chocolate.)Stop working so hard. (Selling mortgages is not my dream career.)Stop trying to live up to unrealistic expectations. (Start living my best life.)Stop trying to please my mother. (It’s not possible.) But it turns out number five is harder than I thought, as she begins her campaign to get me back with my ex. So, what’s the perfect solution to keep her out of my love life? An imaginary boyfriend—at least he was supposed to be imaginary until I blurted out my neighbor’s name… Nate, the bad boy next door with gorgeous hazel eyes, a razor-sharp jawline and a mysterious scar, might be hot, but he’s definitely not my boyfriend. Now all I need to do is stick to my resolutions while also keeping my interfering family away from my non-existent lover who has no idea that we’re fake dating. What could possibly go wrong? A completely addictive, feel-good rom-com perfect for fans of TikTok sensations The Love Hypothesis, The Unhoneymooners, and Sarah Adams. An absolutely hilarious page-turner for anyone who feels they need to start living life to the fullest. Readers can’t get enough of The Do- Over: “OMG!!!! • simply good and lovable
Format: Kindle
I needed a fun novel after finishing a series of dark ones. This was perfect. I laughed, smiled and found this book relatable. A cute story of women discovering who they are.

  • RomCom and personal growth - LOVED the Mimi-isms
Format: Kindle
This was an enjoyable debut - filled with the lighthearted Mimi-isms (I could not wait to get to the next chapter just for those!), an adorable and quirky kid (my favorite kind!), fun banter, and a friends-to-lovers slow burn romance. The book also went a bit deeper into family (some toxic) dynamics, social anxiety, and personal growth and acceptance. Perci shows that you can both grow/change AND accept yourself, too - why must you choose one or the other?. The story was fun, and maybe a little predictable but sometimes you like that type of escape, without being too emotionally heavy. It didn't tiptoe around some issues and yeah Perci's mom was not a likeable character, but many people could relate to this type of parent. I liked seeing Perci grow in her confidence, while also still embracing who she was. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was fabulous. ... show more

  • Humorous, emotional, and characters with real depth
Format: Kindle
Things I liked about Sharon M. Peterson's debut novel: None of the characters are "cookie-cutter" MIMI (read it -- you'll know why) -- everyone should have a Mimi in one's life The Mimi-isms that began each chapter -- some are insightful, some are downright hilarious Perci & Mathias friendship -- I love friendships in books where they speak the truth to each other while also building each other up, cheering each other on, and simply being there for each other. Bria -- Though she was a minor character, her story adds a powerful aspect. I actually think she could have her own book because I know I'd love to know more about her. Things I didn't "like" but only because the author did such a great job making the story real (so, these are not negatives): Perci's self-deprecation (because it was exactly what would happen, but it still made me mad and broke my heart) Mom (though I did understand -- kind of -- where her heart was trying to be) A couple of the guys -- you'll have to read it to know who and why Overall, this is a really enjoyable read in which I was able to completely lose myself. ... show more

  • Liked The Book But…
Format: Kindle
Overall I would say that this was actually a pretty good book I just feel like it was really misrepresented with how it was advertised. Realistically the book isn’t really a romantic book it mostly focuses on family dynamic and is more of a coming of age but like an adult version- which I loved but am not happy with how the synopsis interprets it. The romance to me is more like a subplot. It says her next door neighbor is a “bad boy” - he’s not. I’m also really not happy because nowhere in the synopsis to that talk about there being a kid involved not that it was bad but I’m not really one to read books I have children with it, especially if I’m not prepared but I still continued with the book anyways and I did enjoy it. A warning just would’ve been nice. Then there is the fact that the main character finally does grow a spine and tells her mother how she feels. While I do agree she didn’t do it in the most appropriate way it did bother me that she still felt she held a lot of responsibility afterwards when it was not all on her. I do like how everything resolved though I think the love interest could’ve graveled because of a mistake that wasn’t the MCs or his fault. Just a plain accident that while I understand is scary is no reason to be crappy to someone. For anyone reading this I still definitely recommend reading the book I thought it was good and hilarious. I enjoyed it a lot and would reread it points off is mostly for how it was shown as it would be versus what it was. ... show more

  • So much fun!! Finding yourself!
Format: Kindle
So funny! So, this is a romance novel with zero spice, only kissing. BUT, I didn't even miss it because the story sucked me in so well! The love interest doesn't really show up until 45% through the book. Perci has a lovely but difficult family, a dream of a best friend, and a lot of family trauma. She is so relatable and sweet. I lived how she feels so real and the comedy is not written to make her seem stupid, clumsy, or airheaded. She had tons of character development. Her H we didn't get to know near as well as this is a single POV story, but he still did some growing. This book is really more about the power obtained through accepting yourself and healing and healthy relationships, so Nate just gets off easy. He just isn't the focus. Very good; great editing, great story, so well written. Family friendly, no spice. ... show more

  • Literally laughed out loud
Format: Kindle
Sharon M. Peterson is a great wit. Perci is a fantastic narrator and all the characters feel so real. I laughed out loud many times and also cried, so you know it’s good. The only reason this isn’t a five star for me is that I wanted more of the romance part of the book. I loved the depth of the mother-daughter relationship and the added dimension of the family relationships, but I would have loved more scenes with the dating portion of the story. I just needed more! I need to know what Nate was studying! I’m going to be thinking about that and other delightful parts of this book for a long while. ... show more

  • I pre-ordered this before I even finished, it's THAT good! I pre-ordered this before I even finished, it's THAT good!
I love reading. I love the stories, the places we can go inside the pages and the people we can meet along the way... And I especially love books that remind me how much I love to read! I loved this one so much I immediately pre-ordered a physical copy for my shelves so I can do a re-read soon! ❤️ . This book was everything. Between the super cute cover/title combo, to the horribly hilarious meet cute to the seriously fantastic writing style with enough chemistry and laugh out loud moments to make an impact, Sharon M. Peterson really got it right. I related to Perci SO much and I was rooting for her from the get go! . Side note: the "this was a date" scene had me SQUEALING. My romance loving heart was DYING! This book should be made into Netflix romcom ASAP. .
