The age old tactic - write a eBook to drive people to your firm. In this case, the book was a handful of pages and contained almost no actionable information. At least the eBooks I've written for this purpose went out for free. What was I hoping for in this? I guess I was hoping it would contain actionable items. Perhaps around establishing a rapid understanding of a new company, culture, and its tech. Instead, there were tidbits of information like "Mission" or "Communicate." How about "What makes a good technical mission for an organization?" My favorite section was probably a tie between "API" and "Go." What sort of person wakes up to find themselves in a CTO role at an organization, leading to a desperate search on Amazon for a $5 eBook describing APIs for two whole paragraphs. Shame on me really for thinking this was going to be a strategic book. There's no chance > 10 people rated this a 5 star that didn't somehow have motive to do so.     • The best advice in 30 second elevator pitches
I loved the short snippet or "snacking" style setup of this book. With busy schedules, it allowed for quick read summarizations. I have always been a fan of the concept that being forced to convey something important in 30 seconds or less results in more valuable and powerful content. The ideas were to the point and with enough substance to gain valuable insights and lexicon to use to go deeper if research desired deeper later.     • Great cookbook for success, distills decades of deep CTO/CIO experience
I highly recommend this book for both CTOs/CIOs at the beginning of their career and for experienced technology leaders on a quest to continuously improve and re-calibrate themselves. The method of the book is to distil decades of experiences into simple learnings. It’s a cookbook. It creates a mental grid of domains and principles for a technology leader to succeed. It also provides entry points to deepen your knowledge in specific subjects, always pointing back to the larger context. Well done. Fun to read. ... show more

    • Great read, concise and insightful
Read it in one hour, will probably re-read a few times again and explore the literature referenced within the book, neatly attached to issue discussion. Not a CIO/CTO myself but I find many of the approaches described in the Bible as applicable to building any teams, from development to finance.

Lame. Worse than a PowerPoint or Zoom, this is a pamphlet sized collection of sayings, phrases and truisms that range from obvious to even more obvious. The format is awful, the kernels of truth in the content are few and far between and this is not worth the paper was printed on. Hard to believe a reputable CIO would produce such an insubstantial “paper” and call it a “book” and then try to sell it as a “bible” for CIOs/CTOs Such a waste of my time Worse - I’m the sucker who purchased it. I really struggled to get any value from the book - it touches on important topics in a superficial way, without any practical advice, but mostly by citing other books and presenting clichés that could be interpreted by the audience in a variety of ways (if at all).
