  • Great book highly recommend.
I got the chance to read the E-book; great work on this. Few things I noticed that stood out; first, I was able to follow through with the recipes and got to implement them, which was helpful. I also like how chapter one welcomes readers to the book. I also did not know that Jetpack Compose was this good. ... show more

  • This book will save you months of trial-and-error
"Modern Android 13 Development Cookbook" is an exceptional resource that effectively combines the worlds of Android development and Jetpack Compose, offering a wealth of knowledge and practical guidance to both seasoned developers and beginners alike. This book stands out for several key reasons, making it a must-have for anyone interested in mastering the art of Android app creation. * Great Compendium of Fine-Grained Tactics: One of the standout features of this book is its meticulous attention to detail and the comprehensive collection of fine-grained tactics it presents. The author leaves no stone unturned in guiding readers through the process of creating Android apps using Jetpack Compose. From setting up the development environment to implementing complex UI interactions, each topic is covered in a sound, elegant, and durable manner. The book acts as a treasure trove of practical techniques that can be applied to real-world scenarios, ensuring developers have the necessary skills to create polished, user-friendly applications. * Beyond the Basics: Exploring Advanced Tools: While many Android development books focus on the basics, "Modern Android 13 Development Cookbook" takes a refreshing approach by delving deeper into advanced tools and concepts. Even for readers who thought they knew the essentials of Android development, this book offers valuable insights and expands their understanding. For instance, the author dedicates significant attention to the command-line gradle interface, particularly the gradlew tool. This emphasis on tooling goes beyond the surface level, empowering developers with a more comprehensive understanding of the Android ecosystem and enhancing their ability to optimize their workflow. * Jetpack Compose at the Core: What sets this book apart from others is its unwavering focus on Jetpack Compose, the modern UI toolkit for Android. By centering the content around Jetpack Compose rather than the traditional XML-based View framework, the book remains up to date with the latest developments in Android app development. This approach is particularly valuable for developers looking to transition from the older framework to Jetpack Compose, as it provides a clear and structured path to follow. The book complements existing works on Android Jetpack Compose, making it a comprehensive resource for developers seeking mastery in this cutting-edge technology. In conclusion, "Modern Android 13 Development Cookbook" is an invaluable asset for anyone seeking to excel in Android app development. Its attention to detail, focus on advanced tools, and centered approach on Jetpack Compose ensure that readers gain a thorough understanding of the subject matter. Whether you're a seasoned Android developer looking to level up or a beginner seeking a solid foundation, this book is a must-read that will undoubtedly enhance your skills and make you a more adept Android app creator. ... show more

  • Excellent for any android application developer
"Modern Android Development" stands out as an exceptional resource that thoroughly covers the latest recommended technologies in the ever-evolving realm of Android mobile development. This book focuses on cutting-edge technologies like Jetpack Compose, Datastore, and Work Manager amongst others which are essential for staying up to date in the Android development world. One of its standout features is the inclusion of sample code that allows readers to follow along and deepen their understanding. After reading this book, my main takeaway is that it serves as a valuable resource for experienced or mid-level mobile developers who wish to enhance their knowledge or catch up with the latest advancements in Android mobile development. While it may not be the most beginner-friendly book for newcomers, it offers a comprehensive overview of diverse topics in mobile development, enabling beginners to expedite their learning journey. I would like to give a special mention to the author for introducing the subject of Android programming for wearable devices and by covering testing as well. It is often challenging to find books that delve into this area of Android development, so I was delighted to find a dedicated section on this topic. One aspect that I missed in this book was the provision of design visuals prior to introducing the code. I always think that having a visual representation of the desired outcome facilitates the building process and comprehension. For instance, it would have been beneficial to include a navigation flow or at least a portion of the navigation UI design before delving into the navigation code. Unfortunately, in this book, such visuals were only presented at the end, following the code implementation. In conclusion, I highly recommend "Modern Android Development" to any Android developer seeking to advance their knowledge within the ecosystem. It is a comprehensive guide that covers the latest technologies and offers valuable insights for developers of varying experience levels. ... show more

  • A must-have book for Android developers
This book is a must-have for any professional Android developer who wants to keep up with the latest technologies, which is not always possible at the work, due to large codebases with legacy code. The book assumes prior knowledge of Android development with the Kotlin programming language. Since the very first chapter the focus is on Jetpack Compose and how to build modern Android apps using a declarative UI. All the modern frameworks are covered with a lot of detail, but I’d like to highlight the introduction of automated tests in most of the chapters, the chapter about building apps for smartwatches with Wear OS, and the final chapter with useful tips and tricks. The book is meant to be read while coding along in Android Studio, and it comes with a companion GitHub code repository, with all the code samples used in the book. The author uses a practical approach and a fresh writing style to explain the concepts with clarity which makes reading the book very enjoyable. In summary, I highly recommend reading the book if you want to improve your Android development skills. ... show more
