Description

(Schott). The Classical Piano Method is ideal for adults and young people looking to learn the piano from scratch, or for those returning to the piano after a substantial break from playing. You will learn traditional, classic technique, and will be introduced to interesting, varied and well-known classical pieces right from the outset. The method is friendly and is carefully designed to progress in small manageable steps, beginning with simple fingering patterns and exercises, moving onto some of the most beautiful melodies and pieces from the baroque, classical and romantic eras: such as Ode to Joy, Fur Elise and the Blue Danube Waltz . The Method Book leads you through a range of exercises, repertoire pieces to learn, theory checks, clear instruction & diagrams on playing and technique, tips on practicing, and composer biographies. It also includes a CD so you can listen to all the pieces performed on a grand piano by a concert pianist, as well as some additional accompanying parts which you can use as play-along tracks. Learning is made interesting, informed and fun. Repertoire in Method Book 1 includes extracts and themes from: Peer Gynt Suite (Grieg) Wedding March from Lohengrin (Wagner) Eine kleine Nachtmusik (Mozart) Symphony No. 6 (Beethoven) Cancan from Orpheus in the Underworld (Offenbach) Surprise Symphony (Haydn) Barcarole from Tales of Hoffmann (Offenbach) Spring from The Four Season (Vivaldi) Ode to Joy (Beethoven) Water Music (Handel) The New World Symphony (Dvorak) Symphony No. 1 (Mahler) Swan Lake (Tchaikovsky) Dream of Love (Liszt). "This method approaches piano instruction from the European standpoint of attaining piano proficiency and competent musicianship from the very beginning of piano lessons...The books are printed clearly on quality paper; each page is easily read with information and concepts logically presented."-- American Music Teacher Read more

  • I found it to be very useful as additional literature
I take private piano classes, and my teacher teaches me basics on sight reading. I need to mention that I'm adult beginner. Everything my teacher showed me, if left missunderstood, I captured it from this book. Highly recommended, especially for adult beginners.

  • Great book!
This was a great book for my 12 year old daughter. She has just begun taking lessons and this book is very helpful.

  • Great series for new students of the piano.
A good series of three books that come complete with a CD to aid the piano student in progressing from no knowledge of the keyboard at all to playing solid beginning classical music. It includes accompanying music that backs up the students exercise in simple 4 hand arrangements. I would recommend this 3 book series for anyone who wants to progress to playing the classical and romantic repertoire. Heumann has other support books that complement this series well into intermediate pieces. ... show more

  • Ordered New, received used item, no CD
Seller sent used item when new item ordered. The book's spine is not tight. The book itself has small waves to it like it has gotten slightly damp/wet. Supposed to come with CD. CD is missing.

  • CD missing
Nice book that looks like a good teaching method, but the CD that was supposed to be included was not. Will be returning for a replacement. Update: Received the replacement, and it doesn't include the CD, either. The description and item headline are blatantly inaccurate. This book's cover does say "online material audio," but it isn't until the bottom of page 95 that you can find where and how to access the online content. Overall, it looks like a good book -- but BUYER BEWARE -- it DOES NOT INCLUDE A CD AS ADVERTISED. ... show more

  • I think this Method would be suitable for an adult ...
I think this Method would be suitable for an adult beginner. However the very beginning pages are somewhat confusing and would need to be explained carefully. There's nothing incorrect, but it is not the easiest to follow. As the book progresses it settles in and I think would be appropriate in its straightforward format. ... show more
