  • The Main Compartment of Military ALICE Backpack closes by means of a drawstring secured by a plastic cord clamp. A radio pocket is located against the back on the inside. The size of the pack may be decreased for smaller loads by means of three para-cord ties, stitched to the inside bottom of the pack, and three metal D-rings located directly below the internal radio pocket. It can be used with or without the LC-1 Field Pack Frame.
  • Three Utility Pockets on the outside, with strap and buckle adjustable closures and with snap fasteners for quick access, are provided for miscellaneous items. The top flap has a pocket with a hook and pile fastener tape sealed closure. Equipment hangers are located above each outside pocket and on each side. Drainage eyelets are provided in the bottom of the main compartment and the outside pockets.
  • An envelope pocket is located at the top, back of the pack and padded with spacer cloth, into which the field pack frame is inserted when the field pack is used on the field pack frame. Buckles and straps at each side near the bottom are used for anchoring the field pack to the field pack frame. Two rectangular wire loops located at the top back of the field pack and D rings on each side at the bottom of the field pack are used to provide shoulder strap attachment.
  • ALICE Rucksack System padded and easily adjustable shoulder Straps help relieve pressure, meanwhile the Kidney Pad strap on the frame also helps heave loading. Quick Release Buckle allows the whole pack to drop immediately while in emergency situation. Mixed Aluminum and Iron External Frame makes it lightweight but stronger.

All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment (ALICE) introduced in 1974 was made up of components for two types of load: the "Fighting Load" and the "Existence Load". The ALICE Pack system was designed for use in all environments, whether hot, temperate, cold-wet or even cold-dry arctic conditions. It is still quite popular among not only military users, but also Camping, Traveling, Hiking, Hunting, Bug Out, and Soft games. Three Utility Pockets on the outside, with strap and buckle adjustable closures and with snap fasteners for quick access, are provided for miscellaneous items. I have a bit of experience with alice packs, frames and straps. Not all alice packs are created equally, many are low quality reproductions of the original and they use cheaper material and a terrible quick release design that just begs to fail - not this one. This pack uses very sturdy materials, a quality frame and most importantly (to me) it has a well designed and heavy duty quick release mechanism. I have not a single thing to complain about with this pack, the quality is there and it shows, this is the kind of bag you buy once and use for fifty years. If your like I once was - someone shopping for a good rucksack on a budget - take my advice and just spend the extra money on one of these, the cheap knockoffs are absolutely NOT worth it. On a side note, the Rothco european rucksack is canvas and good quality, I mounted mine onto an alice pack frame and use it to this day. That frame came with very cheap straps and had to be replaced, even the kidney pad on it was junk and I had to reinforce it. I spent over 80.00 total on that pack and frame and ultimately was not happy - I spent slightly more on this one and I'm thrilled. You get what you pay for. ... show more

I bought 3 of the mediums in o.d., One for myself, and 2 for gifts..Seem to be just what I was looking for., I'm 5ft, 11" tall, and 180-190 lbs., 40" waist, and still enough belt legnth left over for wider folks.

Title says it all: this is a good modernization of the ALICE pack. However, a few additional improvements could really make it stellar. I went ahead and made these improvements myself, but it would be nice to see the product come with these options. Pros: -Extremely tough 1000d cordura nylon appears authentic. -After a little field use (read: dirt), no different NIR signature than issued rucks/bags. -Capacity is excellent. Through proper planning and packing management, can hold just about as much as a zipped MOLLE II upper compartment. -Suspension: the metal ALICE frame, straps, and belt are leagues comfier than issued alternatives if you've got an average military physique Cons (and solutions I implemented) -Side pouches are useless. Too narrow for anything reasonable. I removed them and sewed on a MOLLE II sustainment pouch on the 3 and 9 o'clock (see pics). -Main compartment straps use old ALICE closure method, while the pouches use fast buckles. Just put the buckles on everything, please. I immediately replaced these with standard pattern 1" military buckles for maximum utility. -No bottom access. As a modernized version of old equipment, this would be twice as useful with a bottom-access zipper along the outward seam. I will be adding one. Overall, very comfortable on the march. Extremely strong and durable, and has held up through some tough training so far. With a few mods, I've made it even better for military use. All in all, shockingly high value for the money. ... show more

I wrote a crappy review initially because the seller delayed so long in shipping. Hoping to motivate them to get it delivered on time. But it turns out it worked. It took them a day and a half to get it shipped. But once it shipped it did arrive on time by the prime deadline. That said I can tell you from personal experience that I have full knowledge of the quality of the original Alice pack. I used one extensively in basic training. Anyone who says that this is not as good as the original is simply romanticizing the past. This is a significant upgrade. The frame is sturdier and lighter. The Pact material is three times as tough and offers water resistance where the original Alice pack had no water resistance. There's also a grab handle if you like that sort of thing. I personally don't like grab handles because it's one more thing to get snagged on something. But if you like grab handles at the top of a backpack it has one. This is almost an exact replica of the original Alice pack. But it is improved in almost every way. I also upgraded mine with the replacement of the original frame with the Army's new GI issue medium rucksack frame. I now have the ultimate combination of durability, Comfort, capacity, and maneuverability. Slap a GI issues sustainment pouch on each side of this bad boy and you got one hell of a rucksack ... show more

Kinda disappointed i had to mend the one I got for my husband recently. It worked great for a while, my husband needed a new one for work for a while. In less than a year of having the pack the right strap broke from the seams and I struggled really hard fixing it for my husband. Wear and tear in the infantry kills his gear really fast but never had a pack break until now. ... show more

Love this bag. I got it as a sort of throw all my survival gear in one place kinda thing. I am by no means someone who knows a lot about these things but as far as quality of the product I believe it is very solid. I believe no matter who you are you are getting something worth the price tag.
