I own several bicycles and want to do my own maintenance and if one does, this is in my view the book to own. I also own a Motorcycle and much of the information and knowledge based skills utilized in this book are also good for a thorough maintenance approach to the mechanical maintenancre of a motorcycle. From the basic introduction of the book to the tool recommendations you read at the first of the book, you know you are getting a book that avoids the fluff and gets right to solid information about bicycle maintenance. My story begins when my wife & I moved south for a warmer climate. Health issues seem to suggest riding a bicycle for therapy. After buying 2 cruisers, knee replacements made it difficult for my wife to get rolling or dismount when stopping. After a couple of spills, her Dr. suggested a three wheel adult trike. The search was on. Upon finding a used trike, one of the back wheels seemed to be bent and it wouldn't change gears. I'm a hands on person so I thought this can't be this difficult! Well, I took the wheel off and took it to a bike shop. Them being very helpful, they were going to have to order the wheel and when I told them about it not changing gears they suggested a tune-up? So, how much will that be?, and to my surprise more than I gave for the trike. WOW!!! My do it myself option was to research the problems online and even after reading some possible solutions I really didn't under-stand it. OH, what about an online manual that I might print off. Well, that didn,t work, however, as I continued my thought process it occurred that I just order the manual then I would have all the info I might ever need. This manual has been a great reference guide w/pictures. With its instructions I tightened the spokes on the wheel(truing) and adjusted the derailers(tuning-up)and the trike is doing fine. ... show more

Description, photograph, website presentation, and what arrived are the same-size, shape, color, and it matched my expectations. A comprehensive book detailing all of the normal issues one might have with a bicycle and the language, diagrams or pictures etc., they're set up and explained in common vernacular. A novice user or more experienced repairman would benefit from this book and I recommend it to anyone wanting to cut their costs when it comes to bicycle repair...it's getting as outrageous as a car! ... show more

This book is GREAT!! My husband has recently gotten into refurbishing vintage bikes and/or taking various parts from this bike and that bike and making hybrids. He has found this book to be insanely helpful - there are pix and clear directions to follow. It turns out that I'd mistakenly bought two of these books - the exact same one - so my husband sent the extra copy to the guy whose been mentoring him on this bike hobby... this man has been doing bikes for YEARS and said that this a wonderful book and even HE picked up a few pointers and some information and instruction. I don't honestly do the "bike thing", but these two guys, novice and expert, both say this is a wonderful book. ... show more

Most people think you need different bikes for different tasks. For the everyday rider, this book helps you understand how to make your bike more useful. very well written, basic info that explains the components of a mt, hybrid and road bike. even if you are not in the middle of a fix or maint task, this book gives alot of background on why the components work the way they do and the various options you have. I find this book to be helpful in making me get the most out of my bikes. ... show more
