  • First Hand Knowledge
Format: Paperback
Alexis and Christian probably have been more tuned into the grassroots of Tiny Living than anybody on the planet. I will constantly share this book. Intend to put a copy in each of our newly built tiny homes this year!

  • A decent introduction to tiny house life.
Format: Kindle
Note: I was provided with an advance review copy for free. This book provided a decent shallow dive into a very complicated subject matter. I've been researching tiny house living for over 10 years now--and over time, the legalities, types of building, and even construction materials/building codes have changed. I'm in the process of building my own tiny home. This book was worth the read despite the fact I am not a beginner. What this book gives you: Ideas about how tiny living might work for you. Types of tiny houses. Brief interludes into different people's lives. History into tiny house living. A neat test about whether tiny living might work for you. Downsizing advice. Resources to start your own research. What this book can't give you: Legal advice about your tiny house. Current up-to-date tiny home building code based on your area or state. Specific and exact info for how to interact with city councils/counties/states to live legally in your tiny home. Tiny house plans. ... show more

  • Phenomenal one-stop-shop for tiny house resources
Format: Kindle
I have been living in a tiny house since 2018. When I was researching and designing my tiny house, I spent hours and hours pouring over websites and articles and videos and Pinterest. I could have saved so much time had this book been available at that time. I am, by no means, an expert at this point, but I have learned enough to know that this book is truly a phenomenal place to start your tiny journey. Written in an easy-to-read and digest format, the information provided spans the width and breadth of tiny life. You'll discover a little history, define the various types of tiny houses available, as well as touch on zoning, legal parking and other important facets of tiny life. The real gems hidden within are the checklists to help guide you through your journey and the quiz which answers the big question: Is a tiny house right for you? Tips for downsizing and bringing your tiny dreams to life are abundant. Additionally, the authors do a wonderful job of keeping it real and pointing out the advantages, as well as challenges, that come along with tiny life. The resources at the end of the book are also a gold mine! This is truly a one-stop-shop to get you started on your tiny adventure. The profiles of individuals and families already living tiny were fun to read. Their stories were varied and you will likely find one which you'll relate to quite easily. Having followed the tiny house industry for several years now, I was familiar with many of the profiles already. I wish that photos of those individuals and their tiny houses could have been included with the book. In fact, there are so many wonderfully unique elements of tiny life, it would have been wonderful to have more pictures all around. Maybe in the 2nd edition....??? :) Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in tiny houses, whether a beginner or not. The information held within these pages is worth their weight in gold. I look forward to future editions...or sequels in the series. Every word expressed in this review is my own and I am grateful to have been provided an early copy of this book so that I can share with you just how AWESOME it is. Happy reading....and may your tiny journey be amazing! ... show more

  • Does what it promises!
Format: Kindle
To begin, I'd like to say that I was provided an advance review copy for free. I'd also like to say that I am by no means a "beginner" when it comes to tiny houses, but I'm also not an expert! What I enjoyed about this book is that it does what it promises: provides useful information for a beginner, or someone new to exploring alternative living. It walks you through the origins of tiny houses, the pros/ cons of tiny living, and the different styles of tiny homes. It also includes a helpful quiz that you can take to determine if tiny living might be right for you now, later, or never. This book is also great for anyone looking into simplifying their life, even if tiny living might not be the right fit. It walks you through how to maintain a tidy space, with tips for downsizing. So even if you determine that alternative living isn't for you, this could be a great reference book or coffee table book. The book has some limitations, of course. There's a lot of generalizing when it comes to the regulations tiny homes might confirm to, and how people go about building one. But that's to be expected from a book that's aimed for someone new to the tiny house community. If you decide this is a route you want to pursue, building plans and area-specific rules will need to be researched outside of the book. To me, that's not a negative of the book, hence 5-stars. That's more "advanced" material, whereas this book if for the beginner! Tl;dr: This is a great overview about tiny houses for people new to exploring it. You'll want to do supplemental research if you decide tiny living might be for you. ... show more
