Base colours are often quite opaque and dark, making them perfect for the initial basecoat of your paint project. They establish the shadows and darker parts of the miniature and allow you to smoothly establish seamless subsequent layers of Mid and High colours, giving you the perfect colour transitions. You can find the name of a colour triad’s Base colour on the back of the bottle, underneath the names of the High and Mid colours. Base colours are often quite opaque and dark, making them perfect for the initial basecoat of your paint project. High colours act as the final layer of paint on top of the two previous Base and Mid colours. They are quite transparent and blend seamlessly into the colour transition created by the previous two layers. This last highlight creates a large amount of contrast and should be applied sparsely as to not obscure the Base and Mid layers completely.
