Description

Going up! Build a mighty robotic bug that defies gravity to crawl up, down, and all around windows with ease! This motorized, multi-legged machine uses an ingenious system of suction cups to walk on smooth vertical surfaces, like windows and glossy panels. Assemble the robot to learn about its inner mechanisms, including gears and an electric circuit complete with motor, battery, and switch. Then experiment to see which types of surfaces your Gravity Bug can climb best. Read about how suction cups work and how this robot climbs. This hands-on construction kit brings engineering and physics to life as it demonstrates the power of air pressure at work. An eight-panel, full-color manual guides your model building with step-by-step illustrated instructions.

  • Not an easy build
I purchased two of these bugs. I still think they are pretty cool, however, neither of the bugs ever worked, so not sure how well the suction worked or if they could climb a wall. Neither my husband nor our 37 year old son could get the bug assembled so that it worked. So, if two adults couldn't get it assembled and working, it could end up being a frustrating build for a teen. ... show more

  • Easy to Build - Fun to Play
Thames & Kosmos Gravity Bugs Free-Climbing MicroBot is an easy to build STEM kit for kids 9+. There are easy to follow instructions and plenty of pieces to build and play with this amazing Gravity Bug. Make sure you follow the directions exactly, and there are YouTube videos that explain where mistakes can be made, and how to avoid them, so that the Gravity Bugs work correctly. This is a fun set for adults to work side-by-side with their child to assist in the build. The gravity bugs work best on glass, mirrors or similar surfaces. Anything with any texture will cause the gravity bug to fail and fall. It does well crawling and climbing across the floor as well. Fun and enjoyable for all ages. ... show more

  • The suction isn't as strong as hoped
My daughter has fun assembling it but it didn't work so we had to take it apart twice and rebuild to get it to work. Once it worked the suction wasn't a strong as we'd hoped

  • Very good toy
I bought it for my 10-year-old nephew and we loved it! I was in charge of cutting the components off (I thought it's too dangerous for him to use a cutter) and he assembled it by himself. It took us about an hour to finish and it worked so smoothly. It climbs up so well on my window!! As a toy lover, I was really surprised that it can climb up the window with such easy mechanism with so little cost! Really amazing design! I will recommend my friends to buy one! 🙂 ... show more

  • Really disappointed- won’t even work.
First, this took forever to build and was really confusing. My brother and uncle (both grown men who have built many things like this) worked on it for probably 2 hours. Once finished, it turned on and did something for maybe 10 seconds then stopped. They tried everything to fix it including taking some of it apart and rebuilding checking to make sure everything was right. The same thing happened. After that we were occasionally able to turn it on but it never last long enough to even use the toy as intended and since then it won’t do anything and is just a fixture in a shelf now. I have no idea why this is rated 8 and up. There’s no way an average 8 year old would even understand half the instructions, let alone actually be able to build it. Could have just received a faulty one which is why I’ll give it 2 stars instead of just one. ... show more

  • Good project but missing part didn’t allow it to be finished.
He liked that it was fun to build but sad that he couldn’t finish it. It is age appropriate.

  • A little finicky
It’s difficult to assemble and finicky if things aren’t put in precisely. We have yet to get it to work.

  • Frustrating Junk
We got this for our son for Christmas and not only was it too finicky for him to build himself, but my spouse and I—two adults with master’s degrees—also each spent a few hours trying in vain to make this work. We returned the first one and tried again with a fresh set only to have the exact same experience. My son is so disappointed, as this was the number one item on his list, and we’re super annoyed and frustrated following hours of wasted time. ... show more
