Sleeping Bag Guide Sleep Well: Finding the Right Sleeping Bag Sleeping bag technology has come a long way from the days of cowboy bedrolls. These days, there are a number of high-tech materials and designs available to keep you warm during the coldest outings. Here's a short list of things to keep in mind when you're shopping for a bag:Buy for Cold It's a safe bet that on at least one of your adventures, the nighttime temperature will drop unexpectedly. That's why it's smart to buy a bag that's rated for the lowest possible temperature you expect to face on your camping and backpacking trips. For summer trips, a bag rated at +35 degrees or higher will likely do the trick. If you like to camp in higher elevations in the summer, or if spring and fall outings are in your future, consider bags rated from +10 to +35. Winter adventurers should look for bags in the -10 to +10 range, while those on serious winter alpine climbs and expeditions will want a bag rated lower than -10. Keep in mind that sleeping bag manufacturers' temperature ratings only estimate the minimum temperature at which the bag will provide warmth. Take these numbers with a grain of salt, as different folks generate different amounts of heat when they sleep. If you're the type who likes to pile on the covers even on warmer nights, go for a bag that's rated ten degrees colder. The opposite is true for "warm" sleepers--a 35-degree bag will probably work for you on a 25-degree night.Goose or No Goose? The most important component of any sleeping bag is its insulating material. Modern sleeping bags offer two choices: goose down or synthetic. While both materials have advantages and disadvantages, down bags are considered superior because of their phenomenal warmth-to-weight and warmth-to-bulk ratios. While providing great insulation, down is extremely compressible and light. There's a reason why geese can fly and stay warm through the winter! Down also boasts great long-term durability and will typically retain its insulating properties after years of use. All of that said, there are many high-quality synthetic bags on the market and synthetic materials are getting better all the time. While a synthetic bag will weigh somewhat more than a down bag at an equivalent temperature rating, synthetic bags perform better when wet. (Yes, the Achilles heel of down is that it loses all insulating properties when wet.) If your trips take you to wet climates, you may want to consider a synthetic bag for this reason alone. Keep in mind, too, that many people are allergic to down--synthetic bags are non-allergenic. Finally, down is considerably more expensive than synthetic, which might tip the balance for adventurers on a budget.Bags for All Shapes Sleeping bags come in two basic shapes that reflect their intended use. Mummy-shaped bags offer the best warmth because they conform to the body's contours. This minimizes the amount of body heat the body must put out to maintain a constant temperature. Many mummy bags are offered in women-specific shapes and sizes, as well. Rectangular bags, while they do offer more room to toss and turn, are less thermally efficient because they contain more open air space. Also, they are typically heavier than mummy bags, and are generally not offered with down insulation, making them best suited for car camping or short backpacking trips.Pad Yourself No matter what kind of bag you choose, a sleeping pad is a required accessory. Not only do they provide much-needed comfort when sleeping on the ground, pads also offer crucial warmth for your backside, as the weight of your body compresses--and renders virtually useless--the sleeping bag insulation that lies beneath you.

  • Awesome product
Color: Green Size: Mammoth 0F
This is a great sleeping bag. It can easily for 3 people of average build. It will keep you plenty warm. I slept in it on a night with temperature ranging from high 40s to low 50s (Fahrenheit) and we were sweating. I can't take the cool weather so believe me this product will keep you warm. I can say you should be fine even if it's like 35-40 Fahrenheit. Not sure what happens below freezing. The inside fabric is not plastic, some form of cloth which is very soft on the skin. So it feels like a regular bedding surface - great to sleep on. Also it is very fluffy/ comfortable to sleep on. You won't need any extra padding below it. I did not feel the ground at all. It has some pockets inside but I did not use them so no comments. The zipper looks very durable - would go a long way. I think it is very difficult to put it back in the compression bag it comes with. Teton's youtube channel shows how to stuff this exact sleeping bag product in the bag. That video guy who appears to be a regular build non muscular person was able to do it but I could not. Maybe it comes with a bit of skill rather than force. ... show more

  • Awesome bag-Horrific stuff sack
Color: Teal Size: Mammoth 0F
Ok. Let’s start with pros. This bag is warm! Sooo warm. I slept in a top and no pants. The interior of the bag is super soft and cozy. I stayed warm when sleeping alone or with my daughter. It was around 30-40 degrees at night. So not super cold. I love it. I don’t like my legs getting trapped in the mummy bag which I why I opted for this one. Love this. Now for the cons. Since it’s not a mummy bag, my neck got cold. No big deal, wore an infinity scarf and problem solved. Now for the never should have been invented part. the STUFF SACK. Designed by a sick person who likes to make people suffer. First of all, I couldn’t even get it OUT of the stuff sack. (This is not my first sleeping bag. I’ve owned quite a few. And always been able to get them back to stuffed.) but this nightmare would not even come out. So I cut it off. Sliced the stuff sack into shredded bits…. So now, after using the bag, I decided to use straps to keep it in “stowed” position. But after sliding around across my tent floor like a oiled up wrestler, I gave up and asked a friend for help. As you can see by the photo, it was a joke. It’s double to size it arrived in. I can barely evenly fit it in my closet. Come on now, invent a better stuff sack. Otherwise, 4 stars. ... show more

  • Good for two, great for one
Color: Green Size: Mammoth 0F
This is a nice bag. No complaints about build quality and the temp rating is about right. Very comfortable to sleep in. It’s huge, which is what I wanted. Takes up most of the space in my 3 person CVT rooftop tent. As for the multiple complaints about getting it back in the stuff sack…they’re valid. A real PITA, but I have a solution! Get this: Extra Large 4 Pack 2 x 60 Inches... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KTH7149?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Ya gotta be smarter than the bag! Use three of the four to cinch the bag down to a manageable size and slide it right in. I spent an hour (and my entire cussing vocabulary) before I thought my way out of my problem. The straps took 4 minutes. ... show more

I've had this sac for three years now and it's so terribly awesome! Large enough for two comfortably be in it be it your girl or your puppy dog. I can certify at 10-20F degree Temps your are still comfy warm while sleeping. Zipper is quality stuff which makes un zipping to wash and thwn put together again once dry a breeze. This sac and two, two inch thick queen sized memory foam pads will make your camping bed far superior than what you have at home. You have been warned. ... show more

  • If you have the space, it's a warm one.
Color: Orange Size: Mammoth 0F
I bought this for my girlfriend and myself as we like to cuddle when camping and not use separate bags. We took it to Moab in early March (20-25 degrees at night) to sleep in my ARB roof top tent and it was much warmer than expected. We slept like we typically would at home. Takes a minute to heat up if it's just one person, but aside from that it actually far exceeded our expectations. Quality of materials looked to be awesome. It's not Patagonia or Mountain Hardware, but works great. The only downside is the size of it. Now mind you, this thing is the size of a queen size bed. It fits PERFECTLY in the rooftop tent when unrolled, but getting it in the bag perfectly is an art you will need to perfect. By day 2 it took me about 5 minutes to do on my own, so not too bad. I highly recommend this, we will likely get the lighter one as well for the summer! ... show more

  • Great bag
Color: Green Size: Mammoth 0F
This is a nice bag for the price. Got the liner and they work great together if you get too hot just cover yourself with the liner. But what were they thinking with the stuff sack. It's a nice stuff sack but it took 4 people to cram the bag in . What would it take to add 2 to 4 inches of material . Nothing worse than 4 people spending 45 minutes to cram a bag in as you are trying to pack up in time to leave made the end of an enjoyable time a real pain ... show more

  • Confortable, cumple, muy a pesar de su peso.
Color: Green Size: Mammoth 0F
Excelente saco de dormir, el interior de franela da ese cálido comfort y el exterior no deja que la humedad ni la condensación de la noche y madrugada penetren, y si es aconsejable agregar una manta delgada en su interior para cubrir algún espacio entre los durmientes.

  • Best camping sleeps ever
Color: Green Size: Mammoth 0F
100% awesome. 6 Stars. Last year while camping we froze too many times and our individual mummy bags would get all twisted up. So I decided to buy the 0 degree queen-size bag from Teton. WOWOWOW !!! I cannot say enough about this bag! On the trip when I took the attached photo, it was 20 degrees at night and we were completely warm and cozy. The water bottles that were in the tent with us froze, but we stayed so warm. It's fantastic cuddling and sharing body heat while camping. The bag stuffs into the giant stuff sack no problem. I am so thrilled with this bag! I highly recommend it. The quality is great and now I look forward to cold nights in the tent. Amazing! ... show more
