Audio lags after video for few seconds

  • Works with Nvidia Shield, Sonos Playbar, and BenQ Projector
Color: Red
I bought this box a few years ago and it worked perfectly so Nvidia Shield could send 4k video to my BenQ 4k projector and my old Sonos Playbar could play Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. The box was always on for a few years then died. I tried a different box from a different manufacturer and that one failed miserably despite seemingly being the same specs. I ended up buying this little red box again and the new one works just fine. My guess is that the old one died from being left on all the time. I will turn it off after each use from now on. In any case, I had tried several other boxes a few years ago and this is the one that works to extract audio to TOSlink for a Sonos Playbar... and it still seems to be the rare switch box that actually works. Keep in mind this box is not what you necessarily would need for a newer Sonos Arc or Beam that uses HDMI. This use case is for the older Playbar. The newer Arc and Beam require something else called eARC or a box that can handle eARC. This is NOT that box. Nice little box... does not break the bank and just simply works for this use case. ... show more

  • Have 2 of these, work great, but power adapter failed on one of them
Color: Red
I have had 2 of these hooked up for last 5 months and one of them just went dead. I was ready to order another because they work well, hoping it was just a bad unit. However, I played with it and found out it was just the power adapter cord, and I happened to have another one left over from something else with same 5V, 1A output and same connector, so used that one. So I'll put it at 4-stars vs 5-stars, since power adapter went dead. Here is the system I have: (see schematic) I have 2 laptops and 1 desktop that I wanted connected to the same 2 monitors, to be able to switch from one to the other easily. So I bought a Plugable docking station that makes it easy to connect/disconnect the laptops. I ran the 2 outputs from the pluggable to each TES Splitter. Then I ran a direct HDMI from my desktop to each TES Splitter, and then an output from each TES splitter to a monitor. It makes it very easy to switch from any desktop or laptop and have 2 monitor display. In addition, I use the Logitech K780 multi-device keyboard and M720 Multi-device mouse so I can use the same keyboard and mouse just my clicking button 1,2, or 3. This setup preserves the high resolution of each input device, which is critical with the graphics work I do. ... show more

  • Input Is Autoswitching
Color: Red
The manufacturer does not specify that the unit is autoswitching, but it is. It will switch to a different channel if that channel becomes active. For example: if you're watching a DVD movie on channel 3 and your DVR on channel 1 comes on to do a pre-programmed recording it will switch from the DVD to the DVR. You can, of course, switch back with the remote. The remote is, I think, something they found off-the-shelf and kludged it in to save on cost. It has tiny buttons and only a few of them have any function. I suspect the IR output isn't that strong because sometimes you have to push a button twice to get the unit to respond. Use of a coin battery is a pain, and the little buggers are expensive. In case you're wondering, the manufacturer does not claim that it will strip HDCP from the HDMI signal and it doesn't. As others have mentioned the manual is very scant but setup is very simple unless you have virtually zero experience with A/V equipment. The LEDs are bright but not a real problem unless the box is at eye level. Overall the unit seems to do what it's designed to do and at a good price point. I've only had it for a day so I'll update further if there are any other issues to report. ... show more

  • Auto-detect, not auto-switch
Color: Black
I ended up trying the the TESsmart because I could not get the proper Zettaguard. It works great. You do have to remember to use the remote to switch devices. It will detect that there is a device in the ports when you first plug in the device but changing devices has to be done manually with the remote, even if all the other devices are off. For example Port 1 - Apple TV; Port 2 - UHD Player; Port 3 - Xbox Last person to use the system watched a 4K movie on the UHD Player. You want to spend some time gaming. You turn the Xbox and TV on, no pic. Ooops, grab the TESsmart remote and press the 3. There it is! All good. ... show more

  • Simple and effective HDMI Switch
This HDMI Switch works well to pass audio and video of 4 devices (2 PCs and 2 streaming boxes) to a TV with too-few HDMI inputs. The remote is a nice size (small, unobtrusive). The lights on the front of the switch make it simple to tell which device is passing the signal to the display, and switching is relatively quick with no picture distortion or audio lag (there may be quicker devices, but for my needs this was perfect) I have not tried it with a 4k display or device, so I'm not sure how picture quality is for that, but for simple passthrough of 1080p/i and various pc screen resolutions, the picture looks good. ... show more

  • Works but gets HOT
Color: Red
I left this 3 star review for 2 reasons. The first, which I have a work around for is the blue indicator light. It pierces your soul with how bright it is. if you are in the room with this thing turned on, watch out the blue laser light is visible and if you keep it anywhere in your general line of sight while watching TV it will distract you. I solved this by putting electrical tape over it so I dont have to be blinded. the second reason for the lost star is my unit get HOT. It works perfectly, but the temperature of the housing concerns me that for something that doesnt have a spinning disk drive, or other moving parts, it heats up way more than I would have thought. I have had this a month and a half, and it did this from day 1, but I didnt think much of it at the time, but just be warned its not something you want sitting on anything delicate or heat sensitive. maybe my unit is defective for temperature, but I just turn it off when its not in use. It's inconvenient for sure, but function-wise its perfect. all ports work, the remote is easy to use and determining the input is easy (so long as you dont block the light like I had to do for the brightness). I will certainly continue to use it, but I wish i could either minimize the brightness of the lights or get the temperature at a level where I felt comfortable leaving it on so I dont have to turn it on and off all the time. ... show more
