  • Works like charm. Strongly recommend.
Works like magic. Tried the Rooful brand but did perform well but this did and solved issues like blinking problems, static noise problems, instability issues with screen staying on black for long period that I experienced with the Rooful. This worked to perfection. Remote works great once setup and inputs are connected for it to receive signal. I strongly recommend. ... show more

  • Works great
Works good, I like that it has a remote control. I don't really use it since it auto adjust to whichever device I'm using. I have a DVD player, switch, and Wii connected to it. Really easy to use. The picture quality is good. Cable length really depends on the HDMI cable you use with it. I used a longer USB cable for the power source, the one it came with wasn't very long. It does what I needed it for though. ... show more

  • Decent inexpensive switch but auto switch doesn't work on some devices. Reasons explained here.
I've been trying to figure out why the "Auto Switch" function doesn't work on my DIRECTV DVR or my Roku, but it does work on my older Blu Ray player. I've done some digging and here is what you need to know if that's important to you. If you don't care about auto switching, then I can recommend this switch as a cheap solution as long as you're willing to use the remote or switch on the box to change inputs. (I'm pretty sure you'll have at least one device that won't auto switch.) More on the auto switching below, but if you just want a basic HDMI switch, then I can recommend this because it has a metal case and all the ports are on the back making for a nice neat installation. It doesn't come with a power supply but does have the cable so you're expected to buy a USB charger (or use one of the loose ones you have in your junk drawer or maybe your TV has a USB power port). It can run off the 5 Volts on the HDMI ports, but I would not recommend that in case your devices turn off the power unexpectedly. OK, so how does this "Auto Switching" work, and why doesn't it work? Somewhere in a manual for another switch, I read that most of these use the 5 Volt power on the HDMI port as a signal that the device is on. If your device switches the 5 volts on when you power it on (like my Blu-Ray player does), the switch will change to that port just like it says in the book. However, many devices such as Roku are in standby even when they're "off". Some say they provide a blank HDMI signal (black screen), but at least in the case of my Roku and DIRECTV, that is not true, because my TV will say there is no signal when it's powered off (which is really standby). However, the Roku, and many other devices, will provide the 5 volts even when they're powered off, presumably to maybe power the next thing in line, like for instance this switch. So, if the 5 volts is there, the switch assumes the unit is always on, and can't tell when it's really turned on. (It would cost more to add the circuitry to see if there is any data being sent.) When I first got this, I only had my DIRECTV and my Blu Ray player. Since the Blu Ray shuts off the 5V when off, and the switch reverts back to the other "live" input, and especially since I rarely used the Blu Ray, there was no problem until I got the Roku, and I use both of those quite often, so I have to manually switch them. Now that you know that, I'll tell you about CEC (Consumer Electronics Control). This is a smart interface indeed, and is available on a lot of devices even if they're a few years old. if you have a modern Roku plugged into a modern TV, you should be able to set it up so if you press a button on the Roku (like "Home", or Netflix), it will send a signal to your TV, tell it to turn on, and tell it to switch to the HDMI port the Roku is on. I'll just tell you to search for HDMI CEC, and read the Wikipedia article and other sites to find out what else it can do, and also figure out what your device calls CEC, and how to enable it. (Most brands have their own name for it, and it usually has to be enabled on all of your devices, and disabled on any device that causes trouble.) Now, there are a lot of switches on Amazon that say they have CEC Support. (This one doesn't make any CEC claims.) However, I found a manual for one of them that explained the 5 volt switching, so it appears at least the cheap ones will only "pass through" the CEC signal between your device and your TV. You'll have to dig through any manuals or documentation, or hopefully someone mentions it in a review like I've done here. Just because a switch says "CEC" in the ad, I think it's safe to assume that if they don't say so explicitly, it probably just passes the signal on to your TV, and any auto switching may not work as you expect. So, if you want your switch to be smart enough to do that, you may have to pay more for one that specifically uses CEC to turn itself on and select a port, then pass CEC to the TV. The search is on! At least I now (mostly) understand why auto switching can be a problem, and hopefully you do too! ... show more

  • Does what it claims unlike others i've tried
i have tried two of these type devices over the past couple of years. both of those left me with a picture that would flash on and off every other second. i gave up trying until a couple weeks back when i thought to try one last time. we needed this for use with a Samsung television with inputs from roku premiere plus, amazon 4K fire stick and alienware pc. the box comes with pretty much everything needed to get going. you will however need your own hdmi cables, two aaa batteries for the remote and a spare usb type A wall plug to power this device, any will do. the device feels well made, sturdy with nothing wrong whatsoever. to start with pop the batteries in the remote. plug the hdmi cable from your television into the port labeled 'output.' connect the hdmi cables from your other devices to the switch. that's it and you are ready to go. as for picture quality on the 4K set i can see no difference from before when these devices had to be connected one at a time to use. the remote does power down/up the unit as well as change which device you want to use for input. the led lights on the front are essentially the same in regards to brightness as is our roku for example. if it bothers you a piece of electricians/black tape will take care of that. or just turn the device to the side so they aren't pointed directly at you. i could not be more pleased with how this purchase has worked out for us, especially after the previous failed attempts with other devices. switches that made the same promises except with this one it actually does what it says it will. i have not found our experienced anything negative so far. the only minor ding would be that i was not aware this required a power brick, as said not included. it would have been helpful to have that information featured more prominently on this page. but for the money and the end results absolutely not a big deal at all. i'm not only happy with this switch honestly i am relieved. after trying for so long to finally have a solution that works, it's great. i can whole heartedly recommend this to anyone with limited hdmi ports on their televisions or displays. ... show more
