  • Works with Nvidia Shield, Sonos Playbar, and BenQ Projector
Color: Red
I bought this box a few years ago and it worked perfectly so Nvidia Shield could send 4k video to my BenQ 4k projector and my old Sonos Playbar could play Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. The box was always on for a few years then died. I tried a different box from a different manufacturer and that one failed miserably despite seemingly being the same specs. I ended up buying this little red box again and the new one works just fine. My guess is that the old one died from being left on all the time. I will turn it off after each use from now on. In any case, I had tried several other boxes a few years ago and this is the one that works to extract audio to TOSlink for a Sonos Playbar... and it still seems to be the rare switch box that actually works. Keep in mind this box is not what you necessarily would need for a newer Sonos Arc or Beam that uses HDMI. This use case is for the older Playbar. The newer Arc and Beam require something else called eARC or a box that can handle eARC. This is NOT that box. Nice little box... does not break the bank and just simply works for this use case. ... show more

  • Have 2 of these, work great, but power adapter failed on one of them
Color: Red
I have had 2 of these hooked up for last 5 months and one of them just went dead. I was ready to order another because they work well, hoping it was just a bad unit. However, I played with it and found out it was just the power adapter cord, and I happened to have another one left over from something else with same 5V, 1A output and same connector, so used that one. So I'll put it at 4-stars vs 5-stars, since power adapter went dead. Here is the system I have: (see schematic) I have 2 laptops and 1 desktop that I wanted connected to the same 2 monitors, to be able to switch from one to the other easily. So I bought a Plugable docking station that makes it easy to connect/disconnect the laptops. I ran the 2 outputs from the pluggable to each TES Splitter. Then I ran a direct HDMI from my desktop to each TES Splitter, and then an output from each TES splitter to a monitor. It makes it very easy to switch from any desktop or laptop and have 2 monitor display. In addition, I use the Logitech K780 multi-device keyboard and M720 Multi-device mouse so I can use the same keyboard and mouse just my clicking button 1,2, or 3. This setup preserves the high resolution of each input device, which is critical with the graphics work I do. ... show more

  • Did not fulfill primary function
Color: Red
Partial disclaimer: We purchased the TESmart HDMI switch on the Other Sellers page from Amazon Warehouse, where it was listed as "LIKE NEW." The TESmart switch was to replace a working OPPO brand switch, several years old, to future-proof against potential increasing bandwidth requirements. We installed the TESmart as a direct drop-in replacement for the OPPO, plugging the identical four HDMI cables (3 in, one out) in the exact corresponding ports on the TESmart switch that the cables had been plugged into on the OPPO switch. (We added a second DVD player as a fourth input for the TESmart, just in case the switch needed to have the same number of input peripherals as it had input ports, but to no avail.) All of the cable connections were secure at both ends. The TESmart switch shipped with a remote control. Note: the remote control was represented by TESmart to require a SINGLE CR2025 coin-shape battery. However, the unit we received accepted TWO AAA size batteries; we did not deduct any stars for that discrepancy. In addition, the TESmart switch has a front panel mechanical control that duplicates the functions of the included remote control. On the front panel, a line-up of LEDs indicates which of the inputs has been selected; a different one of the respective LEDs lights up when each input has been selected. Unfortunately, the LED indicators lie. Although each input's LED lights up when any one of the inputs is selected, the switch's OUTPUT does not change; this remains true whether the remote or the mechanical control is used to make the selection. The TESmart switch simply DID NOT switch; it failed in the one task that is its raison d'être; in other words, the switch is useless for its only function. We put the old OPPO switch back into our set-up, and the OPPO, as it had before, flawlessly switched between the three inputs, providing separate outputs to the television for each input selected. The fault, conclusively, was in the TESmart switch. With regrets (the TESmart switch was stylishly red, not boring black) we returned the TESmart switch to Amazon. ... show more

  • Input Is Autoswitching
Color: Red
The manufacturer does not specify that the unit is autoswitching, but it is. It will switch to a different channel if that channel becomes active. For example: if you're watching a DVD movie on channel 3 and your DVR on channel 1 comes on to do a pre-programmed recording it will switch from the DVD to the DVR. You can, of course, switch back with the remote. The remote is, I think, something they found off-the-shelf and kludged it in to save on cost. It has tiny buttons and only a few of them have any function. I suspect the IR output isn't that strong because sometimes you have to push a button twice to get the unit to respond. Use of a coin battery is a pain, and the little buggers are expensive. In case you're wondering, the manufacturer does not claim that it will strip HDCP from the HDMI signal and it doesn't. As others have mentioned the manual is very scant but setup is very simple unless you have virtually zero experience with A/V equipment. The LEDs are bright but not a real problem unless the box is at eye level. Overall the unit seems to do what it's designed to do and at a good price point. I've only had it for a day so I'll update further if there are any other issues to report. ... show more
