Style: 75 Mile UHF/VHF
This review is for the Televes DATBOSS LR Mix UHF VHF Long Range (75mile) Antenna with LTE Filter (149883) First I have to note that like several others have reported -- carrier destroyed the shipping box, and in my case did cause damage. Fortunately the seller was able to help and promptly got the replacement damaged parts to me.... This damage ultimately is the manufacturers fault. The antenna came in a box with zero structural support or protection. Leaving everything to float around and parts get lost, and without the protection inside the box ultimately damaged the antenna. This is not the sellers fault. Carriers do not care how they handle packages and for the most part the risk of damage or lost parts is high because of that. Moving on to the antenna review... This antenna is very well built. The thickness of the aluminum is greater than others, and on all of the elements, they're extruded and not rolled leaving an open seam the entire length. All of the joints that you need to assemble have an insert instead of just sleeved connections. While I think sleeved is quite strong, having an insert aids by making that connection more durable (in my view). The only weak part of the construction was the plastic that allows all the director elements to be stacked. I feel a different material here would be better as plastic doesn't stand up to hot/cold cycling well and most plastics do not like those extremes. The other thing with most plastics is they are not UV durable. I did not find any specifics on what kind of plastic is used. The plastic that holds the elements in the rear I think will not last too long where I live because of the extreme sun and heat of a large part of the year. Winter not a huge consideration (even though THIS year it was at -11f). The only other thing I didn't like with the design was there you connect your coax. It's in the rear of that plastic housing. VERY awkward position to get a connection made. This would be better pointing down, than straight out the back. You then have to consider the lay of the coax that's coming out. It's unclear what the design thought was in this case -- it's not a practical placement. So, on to the antenna performance. In a nutshell --- WITH the amp powered... WOW is the only word I can fit. Before this antenna, I have 51 channels, and roughly 2/3 of them were tropo -- meaning they only coming in when conditions allowed the signal to reach instead of closer stations where it was basically line of site to the tower. After this, I went to 60 channels, and a large portion of the tropo channels, were now working as though they were local. Several of the stations were over 80 miles away, and some were "LP" form -- low power. No megawatt transmitter in use. These became the new tropo channels for me. They were new. If I could find a rotator that was worth spending money on, and not one that Ham radio uses which costs several hundreds of dollars, I would add it.... Maybe I'll find one as time goes on. I am in a unique location that I have multiple stations north, and multiple stations south... and a splattering of them east and west. Only a few line up to where a single direction would cover the ones of interest. Also, the beamwidth of this antenna is narrower than other antennas -- so this means more precise pointing is required. The "side" of the antenna blocks things on those areas much better than other antenna's. I would put this antenna up there into the realm of 2-way communications antennas. Highly directional, and very good resistance to signals not being pointed at. If there was a way to connect two of these together, I would point one north, and one south, and forget anything about rotating the antenna. That's a good investment, and because these are powered, I'm not sure how one would combine 2 of them together.... (I do think they have a special amp for this need) Finally -- I would say -- I have no problem recommending this antenna to someone looking for a solid built and well working model. It is on par with other deep fringe traditional antennas in cost (as noted it's increased since I ordered mine only a few weeks ago - get em while they're hot!) This antenna is physically smaller than other deep fringe, and that means installation is MUCH easier. Some can (for safety) take 2 people! Buy it -- you won't be disappointed. P.S. I would not recommend this if you are in an area where the stations of interest are all pretty close to you -- Televes has other models more appropriate for that situation, I live some over 50 air miles away from most of the stations, and some are even further than that, getting towards 90 miles! This antenna fits this situation very well.

Received a recommendation by antennaman.com for this unit - was excited to cut the cable to Dish since not all local channels are available due to contract disputes going on for YEARS now - ridiculous. Anyway, this antenna performed 100% - all local channels are being received, the furthest is 65 miles away. I recommend this antenna -

I live in a rural area about 950 feet above sea level. I “cut the cord” in 2015 and spoke to very helpful people at Antennas Direct who ultimately sold me two antennas: a Clearstream Db4E for UHF stations and a separate VHF antenna. I am lucky that all my UHF stations are all in the same direction and I only have one VHF station that is about 40 degrees south of the UHF stations. All of the stations are less than 30 miles away. I pointed the db4e at the UHF stations and the VHF antenna at the VHF station. I then “combined” the VHF and UHF cables using a UHF/VHF combiner also purchased from Antennas Direct. The antennas are in my attic. I received the signals by using a TiVo Roamio box. I was very happy with this setup for about three years until I started to notice some of the stations started to pixelate and eventually I lost some of the UHF stations and also the VHF station. I consulted with antennas direct and they advised replacing the baluns which I did. Also, the stations had not moved, changed frequencies, or broadcasting power since 2015 so I knew this was not the cause of the problem. I changed the combiner and the baluns again tried LTE filters, a variety of different amplifiers, and upgraded my cable to RG11 and still had the same problems. I figured something physically had changed between my house and the TV broadcasting antennas that was attenuating the signals and I gave up trying to find a solution. Occasionally I would read reviews of different antennas and I found the reviews mostly mixed which didn’t inspire me to try a different antenna. However, when I read the customer reviews for this Televes DATBOSS LR antenna I sensed that most people had a positive experience. I decided to take a chance and purchased the 75 mile UHF only antenna as well as the 30-2475 - Fringe Directional Antenna VHF-Hi HDTV 174-230MHz for the VHF station. To make a long story short, these two antennas brought me back to where I was in 2015. I now receive all the stations I received back in 2015 with the AntennasDirect antennas. I don’t know why the original antennas failed but these new ones work for me. One other important point to mention is that I have probably tried every signal amplifier on the market. None of them improved the signal including the Televes amplifier that was packaged with this antenna. There was literally no difference in signal strength when the amplifier was put in line. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the packaging was terrible. The antenna was loose in a cardboard box with no protection. One of the metal spikes had broken off and another one was bent. However, these flaws did not seem to impact the performance of the antenna for me. But I can’t judge since i didn’t receive the antenna in perfect condition due to the crappy packaging. Putting it together wasn’t difficult. It would have been nice to be able to get the antenna without the amplifier but overall I am satisfied with this purchase.
