I bought this in connection with my wife's purchase of a TCL fire tv. We are very pleased with the sound bar unit. Set up was very easy: essentially plug and play. Sound quality is very good; much, much better than than what you would get from the tv set alone. The unit sound also fills our den, making it seem that you are part of an action movie rather than having the sound coming just from the tv.     • Poor Design - Only Install Options are Wall Mount or Tabletop
While this soundbar gets high marks for it's lifelike sound, for those of us who can't mount it to the wall or don't want to put it on a table top, the soundbar has no threaded holes on the backside to make it easy to mount to the top or bottom of the TV.

It's great audio for a low-end cost. Easy to install - just hook up the power and the HDMI cable and you are all set. It's great for secondary TVs (we have a high-end 5.2 surround sound system on our primary TV). TCL makes good stuff!

    • Annoying quirks
This product does sound good, and if that’s all you care about you might like it. But it has some really annoying design flaws, in my opinion. I bought it because Wirecutter chose it (you should read their review). It sells for a fair price. But every time you turn your TV on, it announces in a loud voice “HDMI e-ARC”. Which pretty much makes me want to unplug the damn thing unless we are going to watch a movie or a big game. I don’t change the input (I would bet most people don’t — they’re just going to use it with a TV), so why have it announce that? And you can’t turn this off. It’s got these kind of quirky design flaws of a product designed in China — and you get more of that feel if you use the app. Makes you feel like you bought “the cheap one” (well, because you did). I am wishing I bought the Sony or something higher-end. ... show more

    • Muddy sound, poor settings control
I don't consider myself an audio snob and Wirecutter's budget picks are usually good enough for me, which is why I thought this soundbar would be just fine for me. I'm still on the fence on whether to return it or not... First, the sound quality -- it's a bit muddy. Maybe if there was more precise EQ control, I could lower the mids and maybe that'd help? But the app only allows adjusting the bass and treble. Second, I don't really understand the EQ controls. I thought the bass+treble settings were tied to the EQ settings (e.g. Music, Movie, Sports, etc). But they're independent settings, so if I set the Treble to 6 because I like my music sounding that way, when I switch to Movies, it retains the Treble setting. I'd like to set Movies so the Treble is lower. Same with the Effect setting (e.g. Surround Enhance, Dialogue Enhance, etc.). I only want some of these in Movie EQ mode but once you turn on Dialogue Enhance, it remains on if you switch to a different EQ Mode. This might be one of the few times I disagree with a Wirecutter pick but it's a bit too "budget" for me. ... show more
