as someone who just wants to do silly little tattoos on myself, this is a great starter kit! it comes with everything you need apart from ink. the machine itself feels very high quality, it has a really good weight to it. everything in this kit feels of high quality and im very happy with it. i do wish the instructions were a bit more thorough on how the machine works and how to actually use it as ive never tattooed before, and it only comes with one practice skin sheet which i definitely need more before im comfortable tattooing myself. ... show more

This is a very nice setup for a beginner, and the quality is very good. I really like the machine. This kit contains lots of extras, but is sadly missing one of the most essential components for someone wishing to begin tattooing, or tattoo practice: Practice inks. I believe that this is the first kit I have seen that did not come with any inks at all, even though they do include synthetic practice skin and transfer paper. In the end, you will need the inks to progress to any level. As I said, I really like this pen, which is substantial in it's feel. It's smooth, and vibration free. It has an unassuming, subtle finish, unlike some of the cheaper kits that seem to glorify the pen by anodizing it to make it seem better. This one doesn't do that. It's sort of a matte black, and I really like the finish on it. The kit comes with both a battery pack, and a power cord so that you can work off of a power supply. However, there is no power supply or foot pedal (rheostat) included in the kit. Rhein makes good stuff, and I've had their needle cartridges, which I was quite pleased with. I am a bit surprised the the kit comes with a "poke" stick and 20 needle bars, but no inks nor any power supply & foot pedal. It also comes with black grip tape which is a must, as well as rubber nipple grommets for the poke stick to secure the needle bars. Personally I have never used a poke stick, and I really don't see the need (or desire) to have one, but it's included here. I thought it was great that the kit comes with both instructions for the tattoo pen, but also for the kit itself. Most kits lack any sort of instructions. Overall, a very nice kit. This tattoo kit works great considering its low cost. I like the fact that it includes a poke stick as well as a tattoo pen, so you can decide which tool is better when styling your tattoo. It comes with a pack of needles, foot pedal and 7 ink set. The only thing that shows it is a budget model is that the ink set is on the small side - you will run out of ink pretty quickly given how small the bottles are. Tattoo artists are like the military. You don't change things. Let's be honest now, the tattoo industry could use some innovation and change...some simplifying, if you will. I mean, we've got foot pedals and bare wire connections and rubber bands! Not to mention, it sounds like we're hooking up Frankenstein's electrodes. I took one for the team and give this a try. I've been pleasantly surprised. It wasn't too hard to adjust my grip for this since it's about the same size around as a traditional grip. I used practice skins just to get a feel for the difference in weight, etc. There's not a lot. I really like a lot of things about this machine. I like the needle system. They are cartridges and all one piece. However, you relinquish some control. The case is nice. I like the option of going cordless. I wouldn't say this is a good kit for a beginner because beginners really need to learn traditional methods first. Overall, this is a good secondary system to play with, but it hasn't replaced my old faithful yet. Good price point...give it a try. ... show more
