I really like the various angle selections for wrist support. It also keeps the laptop cool just by lifting it off the desk. The unit does plug into the laptop which provides a fan to keep the laptop even cooler and has 4 USB ports, which are handy. I do not plug the unit into the laptop because I find the noise from the fans rather loud and distracting, especially if I have it set up in the bedroom at night. Which is why I gave it four stars. I would like to give it 3.5 stars, mainly because of cost of an item, that to me, is not fully usable, but 3.5 stars is not an option. This is the second one I have purchased. The other one lasted 10 years and the fan was not loud for the first 5 years. After that I kept it for wrist support and cooling by keeping the laptop off the desk. I definitely like the angle positioning and find it better than a wrist rest for support. Even though I do not use it for the fans or USB ports I am happy with my purchase. This pad is very simple and elegant, well made, and quiet. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with only one caveat: Make sure the cooling intake slots on the bottom of your laptop are closer to the rear of the laptop than the front. The pad's fans are mounted near the rear edge and may not provide airflow into your laptop if your intake vents are situated below the fans. I had this situation with a big Asus laptop and regrettably had to return the pad and go with a different one. I really would have preferred this one but didn't feel the airflow path was optimal for my situation. ... show more

I already have an Afmat laptop cooler that is super loud, which is why this product appealed to me so much - it's simple, sleek, and according to a lot of reviews and even some videos I watched, quiet. I did lots of research and all the signs pointed to this laptop pad. So when it arrived in the mail today I was beyond excited!! Normally I would wait after a while of using a product before giving a more well-rounded review of it, but I can tell you right away: This thing does essentially nothing. I ran a few different programs on it for a couple of hours throughout the evening, one of which was a video game (so a bit on the heavier side for the laptop to handle). Unfortunately the Targus mat was not able to cool down/keep my laptop cool even a little bit, and I'm very disappointed. :\ Maybe, if you are doing literally nothing other than checking emails or watching videos online, this pad would be good for you. In my opinion, though, it is basically a $50 laptop prop. I don't mean to be rude or over reactive, but I genuinely do not know why I would ever need or want this product since for me the main concern is cooling.
