  • Amazing Value for 3kW Amp!
I recently picked up one of these to test and find out what all of the buzz was about. This amp promises 3000 watts delivered between 1-2 ohms. Constant power is nothing new, JL Audio has been making amps with this technology since the early 2000's and Rockford Fosgate also has the BDCP series amps with constant power across multiple ohm loads. The big difference is the price. The JL and RF models are expensive and out of the reach of many car audio consumers. This Taramps Smart 3 at the time of the review was well below three hundred dollars and quite an amazing value. I put the amp on my test bench and ran it on my SMD Amp Dyno for almost an hour across multiple loads and easily confirmed the 3000 watt rating was indeed valid between 1, 1.3, 1.6 and 2 ohms. I also performed later tests all the way down to 1/2 ohm and the amp continued to perform at a level very few amps could even handle. I've tested over 250 amplifiers over the past 10 years and only a handful have been able to handle the 1/2 ohm load...quite an amazing feat for a budget amp! There is no free lunch though. In order to get the full power, you will need to provide the amp power from a strong electrical system. At a bare minimum, you'll need an extra battery and at least a 150A alternator for best results. You'll also need 1/0 OFC wiring. Remember, it takes power to make power! Overall this is quite an impressive amp. It performed well with my 6000 watt Massive Audio BOA121 subwoofer (wired to 0.5 ohms) and made it seem like it was going to jump out of the box. The sound quality was good, I didn't notice the weak bass I've experienced before with the HD series Taramps. Again, this amp did not fail to impress me. I'm blown away at the value you are getting. Great job Taramps. ... show more

  • Was skeptical at first...
I heard about these amps from Big D Wiz on youtube and picked one up to see what it was all about. When I opened the box i was like no way this thing does 3k boy I was wrong. Im currently running a s1-2250 on two hds.2.12's this amp is a bit louder and has half the footprint of the s1 -2250. I have dual 1/0 going to the + and - of the amp with the use of some reducers and it seems to be pretty friendly on my electrical. (im running a redtop under the hood and two platinum agms in the back with a singer 270 amp alt). I plan on doing some more testing weekend but, so far this amp is amazing for the price and absolutely does the power it says! ... show more

  • Awesome amp for the price
This amp is awesome, have it hooked up to two American Bass xfl 12” subs, I had the Taramps Bass 3k hooked up to them before and to me the Smart3 sounds better, mostly got this amp because of its capability to run 1ohm and 2 ohm and still stay at 3000 rms

  • Great sound quality, however ensure fans are properly working before playing this unit.
I’m upset. I ordered the Smart 3k after watching Big D Wiz performance review on it. Once I got the amp, one of the fans would make a weird sound every time the amp would power on. It was powering 4 Kicker CVRs at 2ohms. I previously ran a Taramp 8k on 2 Orion HCCAs at 1ohm,so I’m familiar with the fan noise; however this noise sounded like a drag. Once it cycled during playing it would spin normally. Needless to say the amp burnt out in less than a week due to this issue. Ensure there aren’t any broken blades in the fans before usage. Hopefully it was a dud and the replacement runs flawlessly like my 8k does. Sounded great. ... show more

  • Perfect in every way
If your looking for a great amp this is the one. Definitely for the money. I have a eclipse titanium sw9122 and I have the gain up about 25% and it's to much power. Only issue is packaging. It could've used more packaging material as I used to work at a Amazon fulfillment center and the way the guys would toss the boxes around is not ok. Anyway. Is sure the price on these will go up soon as it's a great deal! ... show more

  • Not worth the money
Not a easy Amp to deal with a Very temperamental amp . If your power source is .000000001% out of perfection you will have issues with it going into protection mode . I’ve done many stereo installs in my time . With that being said I can see the potential the amp has but to me it’s more work then it’s worth . Save your self some time and money on having to perfected your power set up and just buy a better amp . ... show more

  • Not bad not good
Everybody says it's power hungry. I believe I have 4 gauge wire it might be 2 gauge but from what I read in the reviews everyone is saying it goes into protection mode if you don't do the big three kit. I think they need to learn how to do installs or fix there vehicles. I have the gain turned up all the way along with bass boost 4gauge wire for power and ground and I can't get it to go into protect mode. If I could send it back I would just because I don't like the fact that every song you have to go in and change the frequency or the output or something. One song the bass hits so hard I think I just blew my subs and the next you can barely hear em hit. It does put out the power and it does work without getting to hot, like most reviews the fans are loud, and again knob over the clipping knob would be nice. ... show more
