Description

The Tamron 100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD (Model A035) is a highly portable, ultra-telephoto zoom lens with AF precision for shooting instantaneous movement with the utmost clarity. With this effectively positioned, extraordinary glass LD (Low Dispersion) lens, aberrations typical with many telephoto lenses are a thing of the past. Tamron’s proprietary eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating suppresses reflections, yielding vivid images of amazing clarity. And thanks to a lens barrel made primarily of magnesium, the A035 boasts the lightest weight in its class, making it ideal for handheld shooting over long periods of time. With a MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 1.5m and a maximum image magnification ratio of 1:3.6, the A035 lets you soften the foreground or background to dramatically emphasize your subject at close range. Moisture-Resistant Construction and a fluorinecoated front element provide additional protection when shooting outdoors.

  • I really like this lens but it kept locking up my Nikon ...
I really like this lens but it kept locking up my Nikon camera which required turning off the camera, removing and replacing the lens, then restarting the camera. I really wanted to keep it but I felt that I needed to send it back while it was still new. EDIT: I decided to try another of 100-400 lens. I'm delighted to state that this lens works correctly with my D850 Nikon and the photos are very crisp and colorful. I suspect that my first lens problem could have been my D750 camera's fault and possibly not the Tamron lens. My initial test shots are very sharp. I had tried the Sigma 100-400 lens after my bad first experience with the Tamron locking up my camera. I was unhappy withe the sigma because it gave me grainy photos and it works backwards from the Nikon zoom rotation. Probably would be the preference for Canon users. But the Tamron 100-400 is sharper and has faster AF than the Sigma. I've upgraded my rating to 5 stars. ... show more

  • Great for nature and wildlife, but be cautious with filters
I bought this lens after trying out the 70-200mm Tameron GII. As someone who primarily does landscape and wildlife photography, I needed something that could fill the frame at longer distances. After quite a bit of research, I landed on this lens. Several months later and I'm convinced I made the right choice. It's been very quick to lock onto subjects and reasonably sharp. (The attached image was taken on a Nikon D500 @ 320mm 1/800 sec f/6.3 ISO6400) My only issue with this lens is how it receives filters. The front element is surrounded by a rubber gasket of sorts which makes using a 67mm (the len's filter size) sized filter extremely difficult to remove. This issue is further exasperated by using circular ND and Polarizers. The first time affixing a 67mm circular polarizer to the lens took approximately 30 minutes and some careful work with needle nose pliers to remove it. I ended up purchases a 77-67mm step-down ring to comfortably use filters without the fear of them becoming perminately affixed. In future variations of the lens, I would hope that this rubber piece is removed or reworked. ... show more

  • Good overall lenses for wildlife photography.
I had this lenses for awhile. I use it almost every day. I shot couple hundreds of photos almost every day. For the price, it is well made. It's a good lenses paired with my Nikon D 500. For flying birds like eagles, hawks and falcons, the photos came out nice and sharp. I had a problem with the camera reading info from the lenses which created errors in my Nikon camera. This lenses is not too heavy. I was carrying it with camera strap which put the lenses weight on the camera. This was a big problem. The weight of the lenses was carried by the camera. When I brought the lenses tripod support, I put the strap on the tripod ring. Now it is working well with the weight on the lenses instead of the camera. Please do not put the weight on the camera or you will have the same problem! It's a great lenses for bird photography especially for warblers. Have fun using this lenses! ... show more

  • Auto focus stopped working
This lens worked fine, using occasionally for about 3 months. Then auto focus simply stopped working. After doing a search online about it, I see that this is a common problem with Tamron lenses. I know the lens was less expensive than other ones, but it is still a lot of money to spend and have it stop working so soon! I contacted them and was told I couldn't return because I purchased through Amazon and it was over 30 days. I sent it back for repair, and when I got it back, it worked for a couple weeks and stopped working again. I am going to contact them again and ask for a new lens to see if maybe I just got a bad one. I'll update if this issue gets resolved. Right now, I am very unhappy with Tamron. ... show more

  • Works Great
Great value lens. I bought this lens because the focal range was hitting a sweet spot of what I needed. The standard 70-200 was too little reach and the big 200-500 was too much. I mostly use it for shooting Renaissance Festivals, and I don't like carrying lenses in the field. So I needed one lens that could go from portraits, to high speed sports, to low light concerts. This lens does it all heroically. Mounted on D750. Super sharp, quick auto focus. And can you beat that price? ... show more

  • Lightweight Tele
Got this for a STEAL. Not a big fan of variable aperture glass, but it works. Super light, can add a TC down the road. Always liked tamron lenses

  • Light enough for all day use. Great quality.
Love this lens! Took me four tries to find a long telephoto to keep on my D7200. My main camera is a D500 and I wanted something that didn’t require constant changing on lenses when I needed more reach. This Tamron is nice and light...easy to carry around on a hike. Image quality is very, very good. I’m attaching a photo taken outside my window earlier today from about 300 feet away at ISO 3200 on the D7200. Handheld. ... show more

  • Autofocus is quick and quiet!
Picture quality is very good. You cannot find better quality for the money when purchasing a zoom lense. Very light in hand compared to my 150-600mm lense.
