    • Product fine -- but buyer beware
To anyone planning to buy a watch from Amazon (and the Swiss Time Limited dealer), I feel compelled to share my experience. When I received it, there was no receipt, no packing slip, no contact information, no nothing in the package. The watch was wrapped up in about 14 FedEx package bags. Not exactly the professional and high-end experience I expected when buying a luxury timepiece. Then, we took it to an Authorized Tag Heuer dealer to have a link removed. As we entered the store, we noticed a sign indicating that Tag Heuer does not sell watches online and that a watch ordered online likely is a 'gray market' watch. Of course, I panicked. I then read the return policies for Swiss Time Limited -- which gives you 30 days to return an item. However, "For items returned within the first 15 days of delivery date you will receive a full refund minus shipping fees and a 10% restocking fee. For items returned within 15-30 days of delivery date you will receive a full refund minus shipping fees and a 20% restocking fee." If you've purchased a $2,000 watch, this fee can be up to $400. After consulting several different jewelers, we were told that the only way to tell if the watch is real was to open it up and check to see if it had a real Swiss movement inside. We finally found someone who would be willing to check this out for us (at a cost of $100 and a 60-mile drive). The watch checked out as real (thank goodness), but it was a less than pleasant experience. We still don't know, nor can we ever determine, if the watch is new or simply a good re-furb. What we do know if that is really is a Tag -- thankfully. One other note of caution: you will only get a 1 year warranty with your Tag, as opposed to the 2 year warranty you get from buying the watch in a retail store that's an Authorized Tag Heuer dealer. All in all, while my buying experience from Amazon was tops as usual, I'd never order another expensive timepiece online again -- the financial risk is too great. ... show more
