I was really excited to share about these Japanese-style kitchen knives. I thought that I had owned good kitchen knives in the past but I was so very wrong. After purchasing the SYOKAMI knives, I learned what a good knife really was. These Japanese-style kitchen knives are beautiful. The set includes an 8 inch chef knife, an 8 inch slicing knife, an 8 inch bread knife, a 6 inch boning knife, aa 6 inch utility knife, a 5 inch santoku knife, a sharpening steel, and a knife roll bag. Each knife feels really nice in my hand and the blades are sharpened to a fine edge. One thing that I had read about having a quality knife was that cutting an onion with a good knife wouldn't cause my eyes to burn as much and today I was able to experience it for myself. It wasn't until I nearing the end of the onion that I remembered that I hadn't been able to cut an onion without crying before. I highly recommend this quality set of Japanese-style kitchen knives. The media could not be loaded. As the headline says, we received a very wobbly knife stand/block — TWICE — with no response from the seller. The first time, I thought it might be a fluke due to the good reviews, and we still really like the knife options and the look of the stand. So I returned it (which is always a hassle in NYC, having to carry a big box to UPS in the snow). Then I received another one — and the stand STILL was very wobbly. Maybe a bit less (the first one was really wobbly) but still unusable. PLUS there was a deep scratch in the stand as well. I emailed the seller because the pamphlet included in the box said they would respond within 24 hours. Several days later — nooo response. It's amazing how wobbly the stand is. We could put tape or cardboard under one side to stabilize it, but it seems like they really should have figured out how to make a stable knife stand on a flat surface. The sheer wobble of the stand seems unsafe to use to take out/store knives, so we don't want to compromise on that. We haven't had a chance to test the knives because we're probably going to return the set and don't want to get them dirty. ... show more

My first set of decent knives; not disappointed. Handles are sturdy and feel comfortable; the block is a sturdy and attractive brown wood. Haven't used all knives yet but thus far work well and made my chopping and cutting easier.
