Features

  • Synology NAS/NVR comes with default licenses that allow you to set up and manage surveillance devices. The number of default licenses may differ. You only need to purchase extra licenses when your deployment requires more licenses than the default ones listed below: Synology NAS: 2 default licenses. Network Video Recorder: 4 default licenses. Deep Learning NVR: 8 default licenses
  • Synology also provides three options for additional purchased licenses: 1, 4 or 8 Surveillance Device License Packs; each comes with a single license key, allowing you to activate 1, 4 or 8 surveillance devices at a time.
  • To find out the maximum number of surveillance devices supported on each Synology NAS/NVR, please refer to the specifications of each model.
  • Purchased licenses can be migrated, while default license keys cannot.
  • Under most circumstances, each IP camera, I/O module, IP speaker, intercom, and access controller will only require one license, while each transaction device will require two licenses. However, multi-lens cameras and video servers for analog cameras may require additional licenses. For more details about supported cameras and surveillance devices, please refer to the Camera Support List and Surveillance Device Support List at Synology website.

  • More Licenses More Webcams More to See That You're Missing
Size: CLP8
I have a Synology DS1812+ (8-Bay) Server. Though I was aware of the Surveillance Station App, I had no cause to explore it until I added several more network (IP) webcams. I quickly used the two free licenses that were provided with the server. The setup of each camera is easy and the record/playback/timeline functions are great. The Synology DS Cam Phone App works very well too. I also use Blue Iris concurrently (on a separate PC) and it all gets along well. I purchased the 8-pack license to add more webcams. Installing the license pack was no more difficult than typing in the license number. The Surveillance Station App is a professional grade product and plays well with others. Being able to record multiple webcams gives us a better feel for our inside and outside environment...might even see a raccoon raiding the birdfeeder! ... show more

  • Easy Installation.
Size: CLP8
I am using my Synology NAS as the recording location for my home video surveillance system. The application called Surveillance Station is free, but only includes connections for 2 cameras. The license pack increases the recording functionality to either 2, 4 or 8 additional cameras. What you are buying is a license number for your extra cameras. There is no additional software to install. The NAS must have connectivity to the internet; Surveillance Station calls home to Synology to validate the number you just entered. It took me about 5 minutes, including the time to log into the NAS. Easy! ... show more

  • Great Product
Size: CLP8
We have been using Synology's Surveillance Station for years now and it works flawlessly for us. I have ~12 cameras on it, in total, and I couldn't ask for a easier or cheaper solution.

  • Great surveillance camera platform at a steep cost
Size: CLP8
Synology Surveillance Station is a great concept - turning a NAS that's already used for file storage into a security system that can record files. Synology limits the number of cameras that can be added to Surveillance Station (by default most Synology NAS' come with 2 free camera licenses). While the price tag on these license packs is hefty, I do find that Synology Surveillance Station is much better than my previous competitor security system. ... show more

  • "Supported" cameras don't offer full functionality
Size: CLP8
If this product worked as advertised, it could be outstanding. Unfortunately, the list of cameras that Synology states as being supported, are not necessarily fully supported. Features that the cameras offer and that Surveillance Station claims to offer are simply unavailable. You end up managing them through both the camera interface and Surveillance Station, but the later will most likely over-write the configurations leaving you with a half-baked surveillance system. In attempting to troubleshoot, I also discovered that their support is lacking. I was pushed to articles that showed exactly how to do what I wanted, but even providing screenshots they did not grasp those advertised options weren't available. To do any troubleshooting outside the articles, they asked for full system logs, claiming there was nothing sensitive or personal (take a look for yourself and decide) and full remote access with an admin account, giving them untethered access anytime they want. A company with a policy and support service like that, count me out. Bottom line, I thought Synology had quality products, but I won't ever purchase one of their products again. ... show more

Yeah, synology charges you a bunch of money. But it works. 5/5

  • Got exactly what was advertised
Size: CLP8
These keys were easy ti install and synology accepted the keys easy enough, of course my only gripe is the cost. I mean you have to buy the nas, then buy the hard drives, then you have to buy the camera's, then you have to buy a key to use them. Feels like i am being squeezed for every penny they can get. I will be testing BluIiris and its its capabilities after all of this expensive testing. that being said, Synology Surveilence center is good, and had good features. But i use the 1821+ and the 18+ series befor that, and now they have the AI versions. So now i feel like all this money spent, and i still dont have the right hardware. So over all i am not very excited.Thats why i gave it 3 star. Cause i am not going to purchase the AI system, after spending thousands on all this other equiptment, and licences. So again for me, i think it will be cheaper going forward to just invest time into BluIiris system. and avoid any other upcharges from synology in the future. ... show more

  • Pricey
Size: CLP8
I tried a few NVRs but none worked very well. Surveillance Station on my DS1618+ works better than all the NVRs that I've used, it is also more user friendly, but far from perfect. This licensing system adds quite an extra cost to every new camera you want to use without giving you much value for that cost. I guess nowadays its so easy to manufacure a cheap NVR that no one cares to make a good one, unless you go really pro and spend several thousands of dollars. ... show more
