  • Works great now after some trial and error, Good hardware prep is the key to making it work well
The media could not be loaded. I am on a quest to automate as much of my home as I can. I've done my lights, locks, music, etc, and really the last thing on my list were my windows. Also, I'm an apartment dweller, so I do have limitations on what I can do. I found the switch bot products and was intrigued as to how they would work so I bought 2 for my main curtains. Because of the span, I had a 1" telescoping rod. When using the 1" rod, I had two issues: #1, my grommet curtains would get stuck when it was being pulled closed and almost reaching the maximum closing width, and #2, nothing worked to get it over the transition part of the telescope. Issue #1, I was able to resolve with a smaller rod diameter. Depending on your grommet size, I would recommend not going over 3/4", even staying with 5/8". Once I changed the rod, my grommets had little issue moving back and forth. you may want to just barely lubricate the rod with some WD-40 for even better movement, but of course you don't want to mess up your fabric on your curtains. Note: I did not try to use the included grommet attachment. it didn't look very pretty and I was able to resolve the issue changing the rod. Issue #2 was a little more tedious to fix. Switchbot includes an "adapter" piece to tape over the transition. It doesn't work; don't waste your time. Others have put in their reviews that electrical tape worked. I tried it, and it was hit or miss. I found the wheel would get stuck on the tape intermittently and then cause the calibration to be off. I eventually resolved this by selecting a new rod that ensured both sides of the large window had a single continuous piece of rod ( have three mount points for my rod, two on the ends, and one in the middle). I say it was tedious to get this solved as every window is going to be a different size, and I had to try about 6-7 different rods to make sure I had equal lengths on both sides that could meet in the middle appropriately to avoid the connecting transition. As others mentioned, you can go to HD/Lowes and get a metal conduit and have it cut to length, but I didn't want to worry about spray painting it, and I wanted my finials to easily go on to the rod as well. Programming and using the app is pretty straight forward. It could definitely use some polish on the calibration, user input screens and just overall flow, but I find that I'm rarely in the app ( I have set them to automate through Alexa), so It's been a non issue for the most part. Overall, I would say go for this product, it can get a little costly depending on the number of windows and type of curtains you have, but I think it's a really efficient and adaptable system as a whole. ... show more

  • So far, so good
I was very on the fence about making such an expensive purchase based on mixed reviews. My sleep doctor told me that I needed to flood the room with light to help regulate my circadian rhythm, and this is difficult to do when you sleep in total darkness. So after thinking about for nearly a year, I decided to take the plunge. In short… Pros: - It works, at least on my very lightweight curtains mounted on a rod. - Installation takes literally seconds. The website has tutorial videos to assist if needed (I did struggle with the solar panel for a few minutes because the booklet instructions weren’t clear). - App is intuitive and offers several choices for customization (e.g. scheduled times). The auto-movement when you give it a tug is very convenient as well. - There really are no other alternatives on the market. Cons: - Quite loud. I’m already awake by the time my SwitchBot opens the curtains, but if you’re looking for a whisper-quiet solution, this is not it. The “quiet” mode is almost indistinguishable from the regular mode and does not have enough power to move a lightweight half-curtain, so count that setting out. - The company won’t accept a return if you dislike it. Only if it’s broken upon arrival. That bothers me; a company that is confident in its products and wants to build good relationships ships would accept returns for any reason. - Unit feels a little cheap for the price you pay. - Calibration through the app wasn’t perfect but I fiddled with it enough to make it stop and start where I wanted it to. I have no idea how this works with heavier curtains or a different rod. But for my setup, it does work, albeit noisily. I’m glad I purchased it, although a $75 price point would probably be a better value for what you get. ... show more

  • DOA- dead on arrival **They corrected it**
Edit**: A sales representative from the company saw this review and emailed about what went wrong with the product. As a result, I was sent two brand new upgraded models to my house free of charge. It’s been about a month and a half and I’ve had absolutely no problems since. I bought two of these for my curtain along with solar panels to work with my Alexa routines. One of the two, the motor did not work. I put in for a replacement and received an opened box with a HEAVILY used product. I bought a brand new product that didn’t work on arrival and you send me an used product? On top of that, a relative bought the Rod 2 model and they work fine…except one only charges to 88%. What is up with this build quality? I also tried calling the company customer service, nobody answers. Avoid this product at all costs. ... show more
