  • After 1,500+ trail miles, Swiftwicks are my go-to running socks - the grippiness works!
Size: Large Color: Stripe Red
I run a lot of trail miles and occasionally race ultra distances on rugged trails. In all kinds of shoes and all kinds of conditions, the Swiftwick Flite XT quarter trail socks have become my default go-to socks that never let me down. There are many good running socks options out there from quality brands, including variations on merino wool socks, alpaca wool socks, synthetic fiber socks, silver-infused socks , toe socks, high socks, invisible socks, thick socks, thin socks, engineered support socks, compression socks... and many more. I've run in some version of pretty much all the sock genres. From the good brands who know the sport, I certainly prefer some to others but the sock options are mostly "fine". However, Swiftwick Trail Running Socks are more than fine: they're really good! One of my unexpected favorite features of these Swiftwicks is that they're kind of grippy, meaning my feet slide around less inside my shoes, especially on steep hills and sharp turns. Swiftwick's "GripDryFiber" really works, even after many uses! Having never previously considered the grip factor from my socks while inside my shoes before, I underestimated how much I would appreciate that extra interior traction security. Now I often miss that grippiness when I'm wearing other brands of running socks. Besides foot planting security, I think the extra grip inside the shoe also helps prevent blisters and fatigue over long runs because I feel like my feet take a little less of a beating when they're not fighting the shoe as much. In terms of design and sock height, this quarter crew height is "just right" for helping keep debris out of my socks on most trails without being unnecessarily tall. I'm certain their slightly higher "mid" socks would also be effective (plus funkier tan lines), but any lower sock height and I find I have more of a gap created by my ankle bone... and gravel just tends to find its way in. I appreciate the little bit of extra ankle padding this quarter crew height provide around the collar area from my shoes - some of the mesh weave racing shoes are a little stiff. I wouldn't do an ultra distance run in any shorter sock height. Regarding material besides the grippy features I mentioned earlier, the Merino/Nylon/Poly/Spandex blend seems to be a really good overall fabric. It has the tactile benefits of merino wool with the durability of the synthetics. I haven't tracked mileage officially, but I'm comfortable saying that my Swiftwicks last at least as long as any other good quality socks I own and definitely longer than some. They dry quickly, they don't stink easily, they breathe well and manage moisture, they get along well with human skin, and they hold their shape and elasticity impressively well even after dozens of washes. What would I improve? I would really like to see a slightly thicker or more padded version of this sock for long trail distances, and definitely still with the GripDryFiber tech. Feet can take an incredible beating on really long trail runs, so an "ultra" version of their trail socks with a bit more padding and protection in key areas would rustle my proverbial jimmies. As for colors, all of my Swiftwicks are in the Stripe Red color for some reason... I guess it's no big deal if I lose one because they all match. But maybe it's time to branch out and try some new colors? Overall, if I had to only run in one kind of socks, I'd be confident in choosing the Swiftwick Flite XT Trail Quarter Crew trail running socks. I hope to get the word out because I don't usually see these in specialty running stores or blogs, and Swiftwick deserves more trail running market share! I've bought running socks for friends and I'd gladly hand these out with my highest recommendation! ... show more

  • Not just any old sock.
Size: Medium Color: Heather Sunset Mountain

  • Comfortable
Size: Medium Color: Coal Sunset Mountain
My husband loves these socks. He now has five different pairs by this brand. They are very soft and have a stretchiness to them that makes them very comfortable. He wears them while mountain biking, lifting weights, or hiking and also just for everyday wear and finds them perfect for all activities.

  • A great gift!
Size: Medium Color: Heather Sunset Mountain
I purchased these for my mom as I got her hooked on the swiftwick no-show socks, but she wanted something a little higher for winter. She LOVES them! They have that same great hug feel as the no-show variety, and the part around your ankle is fitted but not super tight like some other brands. She feels it's the pefect fit and has gone on to purchase more pairs. My favorite part about swiftwick is that even though they're more expensive than other socks, they last for years through many washings and still look and feel great. ... show more

  • Sticks and Stones…
Size: Large Color: Coal
Running trails, you can kick up a lot of 'stuff' along the way. These socks seem to attract more of that 'stuff' than other sock I wear and funnel it right inside where it becomes an irritant. So too many times I've had to stop during a run to extricate the sharp 'stuff'. Other socks I wear don't seem to have this feature, and I like them better because of it. Solid "Meh" on these socks. ... show more

  • Terrible Sock for Trail Running.
***Update - Spoke with customer service. They were top notch!!! They went above and beyond making it right! I’ll check back with the quality of the replacements. They way they stepped up they’ve earned another chance.*** Very disappointed for the price. I thought I’d give these socks a try because they said they’re “trail” socks. I should have stayed with Balega. These Swiftwicks lasted 2 runs. The second run was in extreme heat and the socks failed. The elastic around the ankles is junk when wet. It opens up 2x the size of your ankle and lets a TON of debris inside the sock. Not what I expected for this brand. Guess that’s why you don’t see many at race day. I would strongly advise against Swiftwicks. ... show more

  • Decent running sock
Size: Large Color: Coal
Personal preference, I liked the smartwool cushioning a little better around the heel and the wrapping on my arch, so I ended up returning these. 4 star compared to a generic sock, but if I'm comparing to other socks in this price point i have to put it at 3 stars
