  • Good PLA
Color: 1kg Fluorescent Yellow Material Type: Polylactic Acid
Polylactic Acid (PLA) filament is one of the most popular materials for 3D printing, particularly among hobbyists, educators, and even professionals. Known for its ease of use and eco-friendly properties, PLA offers a wide range of benefits while presenting some limitations. Here’s an in-depth review based on my experience. Advantages of PLA Filament 1. Ease of Use PLA is often the go-to material for beginners because of its forgiving nature. It melts at relatively low temperatures (typically 190-220°C), which reduces the risk of clogging the extruder. It also adheres well to a variety of build surfaces, often without the need for a heated bed or adhesives, making it beginner-friendly. 2. Eco-Friendly PLA is derived from renewable resources like corn starch or sugarcane, making it biodegradable under industrial composting conditions. For those mindful of environmental impact, it’s a more sustainable choice compared to petroleum-based filaments like ABS. 3. Minimal Odor Unlike some filaments that release harsh fumes, PLA emits a mild, often sweet smell during printing. This makes it ideal for use in home or classroom environments where ventilation might be limited. 4. High Detail and Aesthetics PLA excels in producing fine details and smooth surfaces, making it an excellent choice for decorative items, prototypes, or models where visual appeal is the priority. It’s available in a wide variety of colors and finishes, including transparent and specialty blends like silk, marble, and metallic. 5. Compatibility PLA works well with most desktop FDM/FFF 3D printers without requiring any special modifications. This wide compatibility contributes to its popularity. Drawbacks of PLA Filament 1. Brittleness and Limited Strength While PLA has decent tensile strength, it’s more brittle than alternatives like ABS or PETG. It’s not well-suited for parts subject to mechanical stress, high impact, or flexing. 2. Heat Sensitivity PLA has a relatively low glass transition temperature (around 60°C), meaning it can warp or soften in hot environments. This makes it unsuitable for outdoor applications or parts exposed to direct sunlight. 3. Limited Durability Over time, PLA can degrade, especially in humid environments. While this might be a benefit for eco-conscious users, it limits the lifespan of parts used in functional applications. 4. Post-Processing Challenges While PLA is easy to print, post-processing can be tricky. It doesn’t sand as smoothly as ABS, and its heat sensitivity can make tasks like drilling or machining challenging. Applications of PLA Educational Projects: Ideal for classroom use due to its safety and ease of printing. Prototypes and Models: Great for visually appealing prototypes or concept models. Artistic Creations: Excellent for decorative items, sculptures, and toys. Rapid Prototyping: Good for low-stress applications where time and cost are priorities. Tips for Optimal Printing with PLA Cooling: Use active cooling (e.g., a part cooling fan) for better overhangs and sharp details. Storage: Keep PLA in a dry, sealed container with desiccants to prevent moisture absorption. Temperature Settings: Start at the manufacturer’s recommended temperature and adjust based on results. Layer Adhesion: If printing larger parts, use a heated bed (40-60°C) or adhesives for better layer bonding. Final Verdict PLA filament remains a cornerstone of 3D printing due to its user-friendliness, aesthetic appeal, and eco-conscious benefits. While it has limitations in strength, heat resistance, and durability, these shortcomings are often outweighed by its affordability and versatility, particularly for non-functional applications. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced maker, PLA is a reliable choice for many projects, and its wide variety of blends and finishes ensures there’s a PLA filament for nearly every creative vision. ... show more

  • I like the new Plus filament. Really strong PLA
Color: 1kg Pla+ Sky Blue Material Type: Polylactic Acid
I have used a lot of Sunlu filament over the years and it has always been excellent. Some of their product now comes in refillable spools that can save a little of refilling the spools over buying the spools and filament, it prints excellent and is neatly wound on the spools. Colors look clear and bright. I like it. ... show more

  • Great filament!!!
Color: 1kg Pla+ Cherry Red Material Type: Polylactic Acid
Consistent diameter prints very well in my Ender 5 S1. Sticks well to the hot plate, but releases easily after it cools.

  • Easy and smooth printing with no hassle.
Color: 1kg Fluorescent Green Material Type: Polylactic Acid
This filament offers excellent layer adhesion and minimal warping, making it perfect for both beginners and seasoned makers. The filament’s consistent diameter ensures smooth feeding and reduces the risk of clogs, resulting in high-quality prints with sharp details. I just through it in the Bambu Lab AMS and loaded it via the default Sunlu PLA profile. Didn't have to change a thing. Printed so easily and the color is awesome! Bought another roll and delivered exceptional results back-to-back. My second roll was a bit temperamental at first, so I dried it out in my Sunlu S4, and then went back to awesome results. Easy! ... show more

  • Shockingly easy to use, smooth and shiny
Color: Black+white+grey+blue+green+red+yellow+p... Material Type: Polylactic Acid
For being pla+, I expected some need for dialing it in some, and a bit of difficulty with bed adhesion. I'm couldn't have been more wrong. It's important to note that I'm using an Ender 3 V2 with a PEI bed, cr touch module, upgraded hardware and using custom firmware (the "Professional" cfw), so I don't run into too much issue with anything hardware or calibration side. However, without any sort of changes to my normal procedure of using PLA, I got amazing results. The filament has the shine that it's reported and pictured as having. The color is vibrant, and the material has a decent amount of flex before hitting the point of snapping. The 10 pack gives me plenty of material to make toys for my 5 year old and his Pre-K classmates, as well as my professional uses in repair, custom parts for my personally built guitars/basses, and requests for articulated fishing lures. I've had no print errors as a result of filament issues, even when pushing the material to the limits of the stock hotend extruder. So I'm able to crank the speed on draft/test prints, without wasting time or material on bad prints. I've definitely found my go to manufacturer for filament, and I feel that they offer an affordable and quality product. ... show more

  • 250G SPOOLS WILL NOT WORK WITH AMS LITE
Color: Black+white+grey+blue+green+red+yellow+p... Material Type: Polylactic Acid
Sunlu is usually pretty good filament, but BEWARE if ordering 250G spools. They are too small for the AMS lite. the center hole will not fit over so you need to print an adaptor. I think I'm done with Sunlu because their main spools also need an adaptor. Its tiring to have to always have extra parts around just to use their filament. ... show more
