    • Low cost insurance to keep your expensive rims from damage
I'm not a professional mechanic, but do basic maintenance on my cars (and sometimes friend's cars) at home. With 3 cars, I'm changing out brake fluid at least once a year on any one of the cars, and swapping out winter/summer tires with the seasons for the sportier car. So I'm not constantly taking wheels on and off, but for the times that I do, I would like to minimize the damage to the rims the best I can, especially for the nice aftermarket rims I have. These plastic sheathed sockets work well, haven't broke or cracked (never know with foreign metals, although Sunex has a good reputation), and have done a great job not scratching up the rims. I don't have an ugga-ugga and use just breaker bar/torque wrench so can't comment on their ability to stand up to daily professional use with impact tools, but for the home mechanic seeing intermittent use, these sockets have done me well. The plastic sheath is relatively easy to pull off if you need to. The included socket holder is nice and a good way to keep these sockets together and away from my other sockets so they're not just rolling around in the drawer. ... show more

Been using this for changing and torquing wheels at the track. After about 1 - 1.5 years, the plastic cover/guard has broken and now fallen off completely. The tool itself is still fine, even with impact use, however the plastic will not last. Great value for money for the hobby wrencher, not really recommended for track use or professional mechanics. ... show more

Had looked a long time for some thinwall sockets. The MAC tool distributor sold me a Blackhawk socket and promised me it would be fine for using with an impact wrench on lug nuts. I managed to rotate my tires once, before the socket split open. Couldn't get it replaced because it was not made for an impact wrench. So, I found these Sunex sockets. I haven't used these heavily, but they have rotated several sets of tires without breaking or showing any wear. They fit well on my lug nuts. ... show more

Very happy with this socket set. Thin wall impact socket with plastic sleeve that slides off easily if extra clearance is required. Do not know how they will stand up to daily use but for a DYI this set should last a lifetime. I have done 3 change overs with this set and there is no sign of wear or fatigue in the sockets. The only compliant I have is the rail they are supposed to store on was broken into bits - not sure how that happened. ... show more

I have now used these on my Tesla Model Y and my daughter's Mini Countryman. I feel much better now that I'm not spinning metal against expensive rims.
