I am getting about 25hrs use out of a set of needles. Then they start snapping off the heads internally. I have gone through 3 sets so far and have just broken the internal hammer. So while it is a good tool and very effective it’s not as durable as it should be.

Great value- after spending many days hammering out the rust carbunkles on my pile driving barge hull, I can only rave about this product. I was able to easily run this non stop 100% duty cycle using my gas powered 5 h.p. wheelbarrow compressor. My small electric pancake compressor could not keep pace so I had to stop and let the compressor pressure back up every minute or so- probably rates at 40% duty cycle. the needle scaler is such a cool invention and this Sunex unit performed great. Make sure you tighten the allen nuts before using as mine rattled loose immediately but stayed put after I torqued them down. Use hearing and eye protection as this unit really explodes the rust and I used a cartridge respirator as there could be lead in the old paint or heavy metal particles blasted out of the steel.     • Decent short air hammer with low air needs. Used for light riveting
Rewritten review: I had some problems getting it to work, which boiled down to the spring being too tight and unable to fully secure the chisel bits. So, the too-tight spring is on Sunex for sure. I got a replacement with the same issue. Five bucks got me two more generic that thread easily and got the hammer working. I used it for riveting my aluminum boat repairs. It's nice because it has the adjustable dial on the hammer, and I didn't want a giant hammer punching way too hard for 3/16" rivets. Works great for this once I got the spring situation sorted. ... show more

Out of the box this product seem to be like a quality product. After an hour of using it the plunger broke...Amazon warranties the first one...get the new one and same thing brakes almost immediately! I returned the second one and just wanted a refund all together. That was 3 weeks ago...called amazon 5 days ago and they said I should have the money refunded and it has not been. I’m actually very disappointed with the product and amazon. I may have to start shopping somewhere else. ... show more

This is a well-built tool with a quality feel overall. I have not as yet put it through its full paces but on limited test runs, all functions check out flawlessly. The regulator is a bonus especially given the fact that one buying a short-barrel is looking at more precision/intricate hammer tasks (sounds like a misnomer to be sure). Final note: I am not sure about the durability of the accompanying bits as the "feel" of the steel does not inspire confidence in that regard - we will see. ... show more
