One of those once in a lifetime perfect purchases. We purchased 60 of these for a whole house renovation. They made me feel good everyday when installing, and when I look at the overall effect (before and after) I could not be happier. They make me feel as if I hit the mother lode for free. They are inexpensive, energy efficient, look great, and install easily. Perfect! I had installed 24 of these in an apartment rental renovation, and loved them so much that I put them in my house. Bonus: they are so forgiving in terms of space utilization, one does not need to worry much about attic rafter spacing...even if you calculate incorrectly (as I did on a few because of gable jacks disrupting the pattern) and drill your hole on a rafter, you can simply rotate the disc so the "spring clips" miss the rafter on a side, or even overlap the rafter putting the spring clips one on each side of the rafter. Try doing that with a can light or any other design for that matter. Wowzer! Tip: Invest in a 4 inch hole saw, attach it to you drill, and cut you installation time dramatically. The hole will be perfectly covered by the trim, and there will be a good chance you won't even need to paint any part of your ceiling. They would be great for new construction or for rehab. Second bonus: None were dead on arrival. Zero defects. I installed with Lutron LED dimmer switches for perfect ambiance...from super dim to stunning brightness. My wife really likes the warmer color range that these 3,000K units produce as opposed to the colder 5,000K or so range you usually find in LED's. Happy wife, happy life. ... show more

    • Great lights, but has some flaws
Color: 3000K Warm White Size: 4 inch
These lights look great, are easy to install, and spread light evenly. I did run into 3 issues with these lights, which is why I’m deducting 1 star: 1. I puchased 3000k light, but the color is whiter than the average 3000k bulb. These are more like 3200-3300k and do not match other 3000k lights. Color temperature isn’t very well standarized with LED lighting, so this isn’t entirely Sunco’s fault. 2. One of the junction box drivers did not work. It took about a week to receive a replacement. I’m glad that Sunco honored their warranty, but it’s still an inconvenience. 3. These lights are not compatible with Leviton LED dimmers, which are my go-to dimmers. These lights make the dimmer hum, and will strobe lights when turned on at its lowest setting. I haven’t had this issue with any other LED lights. I had to use a Lutron dimmer, which is 20% more expensive, has a poor quality construction, has pigtails which take up more space in the box, and doesn’t fade on/off like the Levitons do. This is by far my biggest issue with these lights. ... show more

    • Have had all replaced and still don’t work in series.

Bought these a few years back for the ease of installation, being only 1/2” thick you didn’t have to worry about floor/ceiling joist. I am a contractor with a strong electrical background and completely capable of installing. I have three separate switches that control a two series of two lights an one series of 4. They looked and worked great for about 6 months. All three sets of lights are on 3 way dimmers( ones that are recommended by sunco). The problem is that the first light in the run for each circuit is much brighter than any of the following lights. The series of 4 you are lucky if the last two lights even turn on. If you don’t dim them at all, it still takes several minutes before all of the lights come on…still a difference in the brightness of each lamp, with the first one always really bright and each one down the line a little dimmer. I have contacted sunco 3 different times for replacements and they have always replaced with no questions asked. Eventually I had replaced all of them…still having problems. I asked if they had ever ran into this situation…of course not. The last shipment of replacements looked as if it was just a bunch of returned lights thrown into a box, no individual packaging as before. At this point I have to replace them all with a better product. Pain in the but. A piece of advice leave plenty of extra Romex unstapled to allow you to pull the little black box(hopefully not fastened to a joist like mine were) through the 6” hole for new install, if you ever have to replace. Or fasten the black box directly above the hole for easy access….not off to the side. I have installed hundreds of can lights and the idea of this product is great, unfortunately the performance fell well short. ... show more

I ordered the 4 inch versions of these and just finished installing six of them in my living room. Overall the quality for the price is well worth the purchase. The light is bright and finished look really flush and nice. A few notes about installation. You will need to buy some half inch connectors to fill the knock out holes in the black junction box. I refer the plastic ones that just pop in verses the metal connectors that you need to secure with a nut and then tighten down on the wire. Home depot has them. The 4 inch version does not allow you to push the black junction box into the ceiling if your stud is directly in the center of the hole you cut in the drywall etc. (Photo attached). Thank God I have attic access or this would have needed to cut drywall to get the wires over! If you purchase the 6 inch version then I don't think you will have this problem with a single stud; I never run into issues with the 6 inch version. These also come with wire nuts that are able to fit 2 wires under them but it is difficult. I used the provided wire nuts by cutting the copper to a shorter length after twisting the two 14 gauge wires together. Halo makes a version of this available at Home Depot. It does not require connectors and includes push in wire nuts... it's the best and easiest installation but they are also around $28 a piece. You can also change the color hue; you get what you pay for. Commercial electric also has these lights available for around $26 a piece. They do require wire nuts and connectors but you can change the hue as well. Overall these are well worth what you pay for them. Just make sure you get the right size and hue to fit your occasion... hope that helps... ... show more
