Light is incredibly bright!

Durability / Reliability The light fixture itself seems pretty solid and durable. The spring clips are more of a concern for me. Spring kind of easily falls off the retainer holding it to the light but once its in place is fine. Also the spring tension almost seems too strong because when I had to remove a fixture to reposition it the spring almost broke out the drywall. Functionality / Versatility I've installed numerous ceiling lights through the years and by far these are the the easiest - Just 'plug n play'! No can needed, and easily strung together in series. As it turns out they are brighter than I expected for my kitchen so I've added a dimmer switch for versatility. Summary Where have these fixtures been all my life!? I've installed numerous ceiling lights through the years. I only planned to use these in the kitchen, but after seeing results I'm replacing utility room, closets, hallway, shop, etc... High quality, bright light, low energy consumption and cost efficient. I'll be purchasing more.

So sleek, slim, easy to install, and no bulky can to deal with.

One of those once in a lifetime perfect purchases. We purchased 60 of these for a whole house renovation. They made me feel good everyday when installing, and when I look at the overall effect (before and after) I could not be happier. They make me feel as if I hit the mother lode for free. They are inexpensive, energy efficient, look great, and install easily. Perfect! I had installed 24 of these in an apartment rental renovation, and loved them so much that I put them in my house. Bonus: they are so forgiving in terms of space utilization, one does not need to worry much about attic rafter spacing...even if you calculate incorrectly (as I did on a few because of gable jacks disrupting the pattern) and drill your hole on a rafter, you can simply rotate the disc so the "spring clips" miss the rafter on a side, or even overlap the rafter putting the spring clips one on each side of the rafter. Try doing that with a can light or any other design for that matter. Wowzer! Tip: Invest in a 4 inch hole saw, attach it to you drill, and cut you installation time dramatically. The hole will be perfectly covered by the trim, and there will be a good chance you won't even need to paint any part of your ceiling. They would be great for new construction or for rehab. Second bonus: None were dead on arrival. Zero defects. I installed with Lutron LED dimmer switches for perfect ambiance...from super dim to stunning brightness. My wife really likes the warmer color range that these 3,000K units produce as opposed to the colder 5,000K or so range you usually find in LED's. Happy wife, happy life.

Great lights, but has some flaws

These lights look great, are easy to install, and spread light evenly. I did run into 3 issues with these lights, which is why I’m deducting 1 star: 1. I puchased 3000k light, but the color is whiter than the average 3000k bulb. These are more like 3200-3300k and do not match other 3000k lights. Color temperature isn’t very well standarized with LED lighting, so this isn’t entirely Sunco’s fault. 2. One of the junction box drivers did not work. It took about a week to receive a replacement. I’m glad that Sunco honored their warranty, but it’s still an inconvenience. 3. These lights are not compatible with Leviton LED dimmers, which are my go-to dimmers. These lights make the dimmer hum, and will strobe lights when turned on at its lowest setting. I haven’t had this issue with any other LED lights. I had to use a Lutron dimmer, which is 20% more expensive, has a poor quality construction, has pigtails which take up more space in the box, and doesn’t fade on/off like the Levitons do. This is by far my biggest issue with these lights.

These Are a Good Value

I like these lights from Sunco. They are an American brand and a good value too. They are almost half as much as other name brand versions. I really like the 3000K versions for residential use. The warm (but not too warm like 2700K) light is welcoming and relaxing, yet provides good task lighting around the home. What you don't get with them that comes with other more expensive brands: - Wago wire connectors or similar quick wire splicing connectors. What you do get is 3 orange wire nuts. - Bushings to go in the knock out holes. You will need to purchase your own. - Selectable color temperatures. I like the dedicated single color ones better as their light looks better to me. You do have to invest a little more time up front to install these but they are good quality. Things I like: - The light is nice. Good color, output and spread. - The spring clips that hold the LED in place are strong and pull it tight to the ceiling. - Fits into a 4" hole. - The J-Box fits into a 4" hole sideways with ease. I don't know why another reviewer said it didn't fit. Not true. Overall I like these and will probably purchase them again for the next job. I would recommend them to others. 5 stars. If they were more expensive I would probably only give them 4 stars. As is I consider them a good value.

I will never go back to can style recessed fixtures. I love these.

They provide exceptional light in my kitchen. I highly recommend a good dimmer though because at full bright they are great for cooking or cleaning, but almost too bright for most everyday use. I LOVE these lights. They are superior to LED fixtures I have purchased at big box retail. They were way easier too install and will fit almost anywhere compared to can lights with LED fixtures. Since no can is required, I get to have full thickness insulation above them too. (One reviewer said the fixture itself is not IC rated but I’ve never had a problem. I like them so much better than cans that I am thinking of pulling out the LED can lights I installed from Home Depot and replacing those with more of these. The cans on the ones from Home Depot stick up through the attic insulation creating a hole in the insulation. I bought Sunco based on great reviews I found online. I am not disappointed. Possibly the best purchase I’ve made for my older 50’s home. The quality of light, the wider beam angle, and flicker free dimming make these a winner. I will be ordering more.

No bueno!

A friend of mine had recommended these lights to me since he had recently updated his home and installed these lights all through out his house. I was updating a 3400 sf house and they looked great, affordable and easy to install so I put them in every room.... Pros: They are bright, affordable and easy to install and I didn't have to worry about hitting studs. Cons: The clips that hold them in place break easily and do not always hold them in place very well. I am always having to go push one up tight against the ceiling here and there. The main frustration with these is that they do not seem to last. I have only had them installed for about 4 months and I have already had to replace at least 8 or more. The first couple I replaced were because they flickered really bad when I dimmed them down. A handful of others have just quit working one at a time throughout the house. The bad thing about it is trying to swap them out with blown in insulation. Doesn't matter if you go in the attic and try to scoop away the insulation first, you are still going to make a huge mess. They may be initially affordable but not worth the cost of additional replacements or having to clean up the mess. The friend that referred them to me has had the same trouble and is now replacing all of the disk lights in his house for a second time. I am not looking forward to that. If you have a closet or a space where one or two of these might get you out of a bind, go for it. Otherwise, don't waste your money.

You can't believe the difference in lighting!

I have now replaced every old recess can/light in my house with new LEDs, and you can't believe the difference in brightness/light quality. I've done electrical work in the past, so I installed these myself. I would make a few suggestions that would improve ease of install: 1) include a template to cut out sheet-rock for new installs (simple cardboard circle); 2) include a 'trim ring' for replacement of existing recess can lights - the cut-outs on old lights are exactly the size of the outer ring on these lights, so completely covering the old hole can be difficult. A simple plastic donut that extends the coverage diameter would be really helpful; 3) increase the length of the connecting wires! The length is fine for new installs and using the included junction box for wires, but for replacement installs that use the old junction box, the wires are barely long enough to reach into the box and make for some challenging wire nut connections, especially up in the ceiling. Overall, these lights are AWESOME and I would recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade or install new. Spend the extra time/cash to get dimmer switches (sold separately) as well - the 5K lights are bright enough that you'll want the ability to tone them down. If you're installing/wiring these yourself, TAKE PICTURES of the connections before you start! With ceiling fans and multiple switches especially, it's not the simple BLK:BLK, WHT:WHT, Ground:Ground.
