    • Perfect dupe of Bare Minerals Faux Tan Body, Love it!
I have fair/light olive toned skin and I can get a bit sickly looking in the pale winter months with no sun kiss on my face. I like to stay away from tanning beds if I can so I am always on the look out for a good sunless tanner for color and convenience. In the past I have settled for Jergen's Natural Glow and Nivea Sunkissed Radiant Lotion, both of which are nice products that offer a very subtle color, but I wanted more. I recently tried the Bare Minerals Faux Tan Body lotion and was really impressed with it - natural brown color (not too gold, definitely not orange), buildable color, bronze tinted lotion so you can see where you apply it and get an instant bronze boost, no streaks, long lasting... I recently ran out of my Faux Tan Body (which I was also using on my face with no problems) and I didn't want to spend another $30 for 6oz - 6oz doesn't last long when applying to your whole body 2/3x a week. I began to search on Amazon for an alternative and came across this one which had excellent reviews. Upon receiving Sun Laboratories product I was surprised to notice that it seems to be almost the exact same product as the Bare Minerals Faux Tan Body lotion. It looks the same, smells the same, feels the same, and applies the same. Natural bronze color - not orange. Instant tan color which allows you to see where you apply the lotion. Long lasting. Pleasant fragrance. Even application. Not sticky, slimy, or greasy - really dries and soaks in. It's great. Both products have the same scent, and I find it pleasing. It doesn't smell like typical self tanning lotion, it has a sort of "amaretto" scent, sort of a subtle almond/cherry smell. It does develop a slight "tan" smell later on but it is not at all overpowering, a quick rinse down in the shower and the scent goes right away - color will stay. I am so happy I found this product. It is, to me, nearly the exact same as my previously loved Faux Tan Body at a fraction of the price! I can now afford to maintain my tan and keep my sunless tanner in stock no matter how fast I go through it. One TIP I can offer: If you have dry skin in the winter it might be beneficial to moisturize with a more hydrating lotion before you apply this, the tanning product itself is not very moisturizing alone and I find that using a body butter first helps the tanning lotion apply more smoothly and easily. Exfoliate, moisturize, then apply the tanning lotion. I apply this product to my face also and I have found that the best, most natural way of doing this is to mix a little bit of tanning lotion with my daily facial moisturizer, I use a small plastic cosmetic spatula and apply a bit of each product to the back of my hand, mix together, then apply. It gives you a gentle bronze glow without looking too harsh. I will be using this product for a very long time to maintain a subtle winter glow, very pleased! Would recommend! ... show more

    • Wow... a self-tanner that actually works and isn't super orange!
Let me preface this by saying I'm the whitest white person in the history of white people. Did you ever see that movie "Powder' from the 90's? That was my nickname in high school. I never tan. I go from Michael Jackson-white to roasted pig red. Even in the tanning booth. I tried tanning a couple of times and I basically just got pink so I gave up. I've tried a few tanning lotions and for the most part they just look orange. I have to say, this is the first product I've ever used where the color is actually tan and somewhat natural looking. I was kind of shocked. Usually, if I do buy a tanning lotion, I get the lightest version and then have to mix it with my own lotion before putting it on because even 'light' is a jarring difference on my skin. I tried this on the recommendation of a YouTube beauty guru who was about as light as I am and couldn't believe how well it worked for her. So I figured I'd give it a go. I have to agree... fantastic results. Best fake tanner I've personally ever tried. It was subtle enough to just give a hint of color but enough tan to notice the difference. And it gets darker the more you use it. But I didn't want to look super tan... I think that it's strange to go from white to super tan all in one day. So I use it twice a week just to keep the sun-kissed look and that's plenty for me. Again... I'm very pale so it works for me. I can't speak for anyone with a different skin coloring. And if you ARE looking for super-tan results, I'd rec using the dark version. I also have to say it actually smells okay! I'm used to that disgusting fake-tan smell, and this does have a bit of a smell to it, but it's not bad at all. I actually kind of like it. You have to make sure to apply it evenly, as with any self-tanner, otherwise you'll see streaks. And one thing I did notice is that you have to wash your hands really, really well. Or use a glove. I've used self-tanners before so of course I know you have to wash your hands afterward but this turns the palms of my hands a very dark orangey color almost immediately. Maybe it's some weird reaction I alone have, but I did notice it enough to mention it here. In fact, if you use your bare hands, I'd recommend having a brush of some kind nearby to help scrub it off with soap and hot water. It comes off, so don't worry, but I just noticed how weird it looked and I had to wash my hands twice the first time I used it because it was so dark. I'm really happy with my results. I would recommend the medium to anyone who's nervous about trying self tanner. Usually I would choose a 'light' version, but medium was perfect, even for me! ... show more

    • Good Product, Useless Packaging
I've used quite a few self tanners in the past few years because it's really the only way I can tan with my weird skin (super pale yet also Mediterranean, so I have to basically lay in direct sunlight for hours before I even start to tan) - this is my new go-to. I decided to order this because I found a list of the best sunless tanners for 2014, and this one was the only reasonably priced and widely available option near the top. I got this as an add-on item, so I was really happy with the price. The pump is totally useless. I don't know if my bottle became pressurized during shipping or what. It comes with the pump locked down - I gave it a slight half-twist to unlock it, and the pump head shot off like a rocket, ricocheted off the ceiling, and landed in my toilet. I washed it off and tried to snap it back down, but it wasn't happening. On top of that, I noticed that the lotion was being pulled out onto the sides of the pump stem when I moved it up and down (very messy), so I gave up, locked the pump back down, and just unscrewed the top and poured. I was pretty skeptical at first because this stuff is VERY dark right out of the bottle - it looks like chocolate syrup. But it rubs in really evenly, absorbs quickly, and actually smells really pleasant (kind of fruity). That was all a major relief because I've definitely used a few self tanners that just kind of sit on top of your skin for hours, smelling like death the whole time. It does start to stain your hands very quickly - I did one leg, scrubbed my hands with soap and water, then did the other leg, scrubbed my hands with soap and water, and so on. I'd definitely recommend either wearing gloves or doing one area at a time and scrubbing off in between. I didn't end up with any hand stains the next day. The color went through a few stages for me. (Again, might just be my weird skin.) When I first rubbed it in, it was invisible. After about 15 minutes it started to turn a pinky-orange color, and I was like, "Oh-god-what-have-I-done?" I *almost* washed it off, but instead I just decided to see what would happen and went to bed. I slept for about seven hours, and when I woke up in the morning, it was back to looking invisible. I showered but didn't exfoliate, and went to work. When I got home nine hours later, I inspected again, and it had turned into a pretty natural-looking, even tan. It's a little more orange than a natural tan would be on me, but only a little. I was surprised at how even and noticeable-yet-subtle it ended up being since it was so dark right out of the bottle. I'm sure you can build it up to be darker with a few more days of application, but one was enough for me. Overall I'm really happy with it (though I will probably transfer it to a bottle with a better pump), and I'll buy this again when I run out. ... show more

First time ever self-tan lotion user. I can't be more pleased with the product. I have read most of the reviews before I did this purchase and I have to tell you it didn't disappoint me. I went ahead and bought the 32oz bottle. After reading all positive 5 stars reviews, I didn't hesitate to get a big bottle. First of all, like everybody said, the lotion smells great, lovely light almond scent and this gives out a lovely lovely tan without the orange. I used gloves like everybody recommended and I didn't exfoliate before I put it on. I just put in on right after I shower and towel dry. I kinda freaked a little when I saw how dark brown the lotion is when it came out of bottle as I ordered medium. I rubbed it good on both my legs. It appeared slight streaky after application but I read reviews saying not to worry. First application I did it straight out of bottle and rubbed them on my legs. Doesn't give you a whole lot of colour right after one application. So I did a second application but this time I mix in some of my regular body lotion. Still not a whole lot darker right the way but since this is an overnight lotion, I waited about an hour before I went to bed. Was still a bit sticky when I went to bed and colour didnt come off on sheet. Next morning, some colour came off in the shower but I see this lovely glow on my legs and I can't be happier. They look pretty even, except I could have rub it on better on the areas below my inside ankles, thats the only spot where I see unevenness. I was worried that colour will come off when I applied my sunblock lotion on legs, as I am allergic to sun so this sunless lotion is a God sent. Nope, colour stays on pretty well, and it stays on for a good 2-3 days, and now my thighs are inner calves still got some color to it after 4 days but the outside of my calves colour has started to fade due the rubbing of outside calves when I have my legs crossed. I am soooo happy I bought a big bottle and I HIGHLY recommend this product!! I only experiment it on my legs for the first time and now I cant wait to apply it to rest of my body. UPDATE: I have developed an allergic reaction to the lotion after several use, now my skin break out in hives after use. I have since stop using the product and now I wish I bought the 8oz bottle instead of the 32oz. ... show more

My experience with this brand, was my AMEN, in searching for an item that is no longer available, which I had used for years, and, was ALWAYS my "faux tan" of choice. That brand of self tinted tanner has been discontinued, and, I was so bummed...... UNTIL I FOUND THIS! I read the reviews, it sounded like a great replacement. Tinted. Moisturizing. Non-streaking. Fades evenly. Light scent. Natural looking. Close in price for the "FAUX TAN" I was previously using. SO why 4 stars? I did not receive a pump with mine or the stickers that the pamphlet included w/ my order said I was receiving. If you're reading this in search of a replacement for that BE Faux Tanner. GET THIS. I know I looked over the reviews hoping someone would mention this. The medium is a dead ringer for it, the color it gives off immediately is great and only gets better. NO green tint at all! LOVE. ************* ************* HAD TO EDIT AFTER USING FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. NOT AS GOOD AS I FIRST THOUGHT. REALLY DISAPOINTED. WILL RETHINK A REORDER. I had been doing spray tanning for awhile but when I canceled my tanning membership, I started researching products that would give me that same natural color and even application. I had actually purchased sunlit product before, so I knew their products worked. This is a great value in my opinion for the 32 oz. bottle. I was paying the same amount every month for a spray-tanning membership, as one bottle of this lotions costs, which easily lasts me 6 months when used regularly. Ok, for starters...this stuff smells amazing. Like almond oil which is a scent I love. SO you don't get the typical after smell you get with most tanning lotions/spray tan products. The color is AMAZING! It is so natural, and gives you that deep brown color we all desire. Not a hint of orange anywhere. I feel like the lotion does give you some instant color, but it fully develops in around 8hrs like most spray tanning products. This is different from tanning lotions and foams you buy at the store because the color in those products can take awhile build to the color you really want. With Sub Labs, I am able to achieve the color I want in 2 applications if I'm totally white, and have zero natural color. I have really fair skin, and I like the medium bronze look. Once you achieve the color you want, I'd say you only need to re-apply 1-2 times per week tops depending on how often you shower or are in the water. NOTE: shower before applying this product, exfoliate and shave for best results. The heat from the shower opens your pores to allow for better absorption of the product, and exfoliation ensures you get an even application. Next, the application is simple, just apply in to your body in an even circular motion like you would body lotion. I'd recommend wearing gloves which are provided with the product, because this stuff will STAIN your hands!!! Moving on...a little goes along way with this stuff! Use less to start, and you can always apply more once it has absorbed. I'd suggest applying a thin layer of regular hand/body lotion to your knuckles, knees, and elbows since those areas are typically dryer, and will hold on to the solution and leave you with an uneven look which no one wants. Overall this tanning lotion absorbs quickly and leaves me with a streak free professional looking application. Lastly, apply this lotion at night before you go to bed, so when you wake up you can rinse off any residual product. This also gives the color time to develop. If you don't do this, the product will end up on your clothes and sheets. Not to worry though, if you absolutely must apply it in the morning and a little rubs off on your clothes, it washes right out. I haven't had an issue yet with SunLabs not washing out of any piece of clothing or bedding. Overall, this stuff is amazing! ... show more

I am pasty white with freckles. I burn quite easily in tanning beds and being outside. I've used so many self tanners over the years I cannot name them all. I've used sprays, mouse, lotion and towelettes. There's a few products that worked well for me but had strong odors. This lotion is perfect!! I've applied it several different ways; right after the shower, after a long at day work, under and over other moisturizers.. For me the best way is over a moisturizer applied after the shower. With any self tanner you'll have darker patches on your knees and ankles, but applying a moisturizer before applying this stuff seems to help prevent that. I learned real quick you need to wear gloves when putting this stuff on. It tints your skin VERY quickly. It's useful as a guide to see where you've already applied it. It doesn't look like its rubbed in evenly at first, DONT FREAK OUT!! Give it a few hours to absorb. Hence why it's suggested to use before bed time. I use it on my face and it doesn't cause me break out. It makes my skin a little oily though but not bad. The day after is the best!! You're not orange or brown, it's a natural looking glowing tan and it's gorgeous!! I have ordered this twice, so that should tell you how well I like it!! The second time I got the tan extender lotion. This stuff is truly amazing!! It's a rather thick cream and smells so good!! It makes my skin so soft and it does help extend he life of your tan!! I have cracking skin my knuckles and this heeled it in 2 days. I reapply the tanning lotion every 3 days to my whole body and touch up places that fade out faster every other day. A word of caution to those who workout a lot. You already know the struggle of self tanners bleeding out when you sweat, this one is no different. I have to touch up my chest, back and arms every other day. It will stain clothes if it bleeds out but it washes right out. I highly recommend this lotion and seller if you use self tanners!! Decent size bottle for the price. Definitely wash hands immediately after and spray evenly. The color is nice if you follow direction and don't get wet and let sour and dry as directions state. Good quality tanning lotion. I would recommend for quick tan fix
