My father in law is over 90 years old but he still refuses to stop doing chores. He wanted to be able to trim around a 'snowball' bush he has but the string trimmer he owned has gotten a little too heavy and unwieldy for him these days. I got the SunJoe trimmer knowing it wasn't a weed whacker powerhouse and that's exactly what I wanted. This is more like a nice pair of clippers on steroids. My father in law can maneuver this trimmer around with no issues and it does a good job even in the thicker stuff. The trimmer pivots on 2 wheels and you can guide it easily with a flick of the wrist. Charges fast and the charge stays with it for a decent amount of time. This trimmer also comes with a sort of hedge trimmer attachment but no one has gotten the hang of using it yet. It doesn't matter. It's made my father in law happy and productive and it doesn't cause any muscle strains or pains for him because the weight is pretty negligible. ... show more

This is not an ad. I bought this off of Amazon. I was ready to remove all my plants on the hill in front of my house. Too difficult to cut with the weed eater. I was damaging the plants and could not reach to cut the grass. This is the Best gadget I’ve found so far to cut grass between ornamentals and to get grass on a berm that I couldn’t reach! I’ve only used once so far so don’t know about its durability. Light weight. Could maneuver with one hand. Now I don’t have to start all over. Unfortunately Dougy was at it again while I was outside. Got another pair of my garden shoes chewed up so he is in doggy jail. ... show more

This is a low-cost, very usable tool, just charge it, choose whether you want the grass shear or hedge trimmer attachment and head outside. It's fine for any weed or overgrowth that is not going to put up a fight. Tougher species with deep roots or thickened stems, not so much. The hedge trimmer will help you level off a bush that is growing unevenly but you will immediately realize this is not designed for topiary. I hve not found a reason to use the telescope accessory and having extended it once, I'm not capable of figuring out how to push it back to its small length. ... show more

On my third season and showing no signs of quitting and I have been brutal on it. I'm blown away by the battery. I forgot to plug it in once and ended up trimming the whole yard a second time on one charge. I have a large yard with a patio and several flower beds. I bought this to supplement my string trimmer but now I rarely pull the string trimmer out. My grass looks much better now that it gets snipped clean, instead of being ripped in half by the string trimmer. I bought this Sun Joe as a trial be cause it was inexpensive, planning to get a batter one (expensive) if I like using a shears. I won't have to, the Sun Joe is great. The hedge trimmer works great in the fall for cutting down a long row of peonies and other perennials. The wheels seemed a bit small so it cut shorter than I prefer so I just wrapped 1" wide by 1/2" thick self adhesive foam tape twice around the wheel adding 1" of height. It's still holding up good. This review focuses on the telescoping pole mounted grass shear part of the tool, not the hand held hedge trimmer. It is written by an elderly man wanting to avoid bending over to edge and trim areas not cut well by a lawn mower. Some comments will not apply to other users. The good: Light weight unit is maneuverable. The head angle adjustment of 45 and 90 degrees helps trim lawn edges at sidewalks and driveways. The battery lasted 3 sides of my average sized home, and both sides of the driveway and sidewalk before cutting started to slow down. The mediocre: The instructions warn users to keep the shear blade at a 10 degree angle to the ground to avoid damage to the grass and the unit. But the designers have only included a 45 degree angle with the angle lock when the grass shear is wheeled along. There are only wheels on the back of the unit, so the blade is tilted downwards as designed with no front wheel support. The user must bend down to lift the blade that 10 degrees above ground level, defeating my hope of a tool which would save me from back pain. Why the designers could not add 45 and 10 to come up with another lock position of 55 degrees to meet their requirements is simply poor design. The instructions tells users to cut top to bottom in layers when grass is tall. This means not using the wheels, but holding the pole aloft. A second handle on the pole would help balance and control the heavier cutting head, reducing back strain and also help to make the final cut less likely to dig into the ground. The grass shear blade does a good job cutting wide and medium wide blade grasses, like some fescues. But the blade tears thinner grasses rather than cutting it cleanly. After holding the pole above ground for 40 minutes cutting tall grass in layers top to bottom with no second handle to help support the load, the handle and trigger became very uncomfortable for this elderly man. I have not used the long handle attachment. The package was $1 more and ready for immediate delivery. The shears are wonderful. Very light weight. Both trimmers and clippers very easy to use one handed. I've used them for several jobs and never exceeded the battery life. I've trimmed ivy along a grass border and used the longer hedge trimming blade on shrubbery. They aren't as capable as a large hedge trimmer. Don't expect them to cut thick old growth, don't have enough power. They're very easy to use keeping a trimmed shrub neat and tidy. The power on takes a two switch trigger, not difficult, but hard to accidentally turn on. A good safety feature. ... show more
