Survival games aren’t normally my thing but this game has got to be one of my favorites of all time.

I love this game but I don't recommend playing if you have any water related phobias but it is a bit repetitive and cause of that it gets dull after a while

  • Perfect, Beautiful, Suspensful, But Flawed
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard
Teetered between a four and a five on this game, submitting a 4 for one particular reason I feel really subtracted from the game. Subnautica is an open world survival game with elements of crafting and exploration as the core focus on gameplay. Fighting is possible but not encouraged for reasons I will get into. The exploration element in games is something that is usually something relaxing, finding new areas, seeing new sights, and encountering new curiosities. NOT IN THIS GAME. Due to the setting, you are alone. In the open ocean. On an alien planet. It cannot be understated that this game is a scary game. Instead of readily moving to new areas, you'll find yourself nervous to creep from the safe shallows you start the game in and only find that nervousness grow as you explore deeper and further from your starting location. You'll learn to dread the night, as visibility drops to near zero and the ambiance of ocean life and predators occur all around you, making you look in circles at every sound waiting to get attacked. Half the time it will be a friendly reefback, the other half, you'll turn to see a leviathan about to take a chunk out of your fresh new submarine. The environment is beautiful and each biome is unique and vastly different in appearance. The world is not randomized, it will be the same every time, but that is a good thing, as you'll quickly learn routs to get from area to area as safely as possible. And it would be awful to start the game just above the dunes where leviathans are everywhere before you can get your first piece of titanium. The story and lore is interesting to say the least, and can be ignored or be dove into in equal levels. The only reason I give this game a 4 instead of a 5 is how it runs on xbox. Far, far too often am I going along only to notice nothing has spawned around me and I'm in a void, only for the world to pop in around me and I'll either be slamming into a wall or there will be a leviathan in front of me I had no hope of seeing since it hadn't spawned. The draw distance is not good enough, and I shouldnt have to sit and wait 30 seconds for the next rule of environment to load in while I'm trying to go in a direction, as I have no idea what lies ahead. Overall, excellent game, but it needs better loading. ... show more

  • Love this game!
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard
This. Game. It is such a hit in our house. My 8 year old bought it after it was recommended by a friend and we all fell in love with it. Obsessed with it really. We even use the premise during pretend play with the whole family. There is so much to explore and find out! The story that you piece together is fantastic. The fact that the younger kids can go into creative mode is a huge plus. Survival mode is great for more experienced players. There's even an in-between mode that isn't creative, but doesn't make you keep track of food & water. There are definitely some scary things to watch out for. Parents, if you are considering this for your younger children, please look up a video of a Reaper Leviathan and make an informed decision. That's the scariest looking thing in the game. You know best what your kids can handle. This is a building/exploration game where you collect a ton of resources and blueprints that enable you to build bigger & better things so you can explore deeper and uncover more of the story. It has a lot of awesome mystery, very little violence, no gore, very little blood (the fish bleed yellow into the water and just flip upside down when they die), some explosions, some jump scares, some creepy caves, some creepy moments with mysterious creatures and a few recordings that give a old time radio show chill down your spine. Mostly it's beautiful and fun. I think the only bad thing I can say about it is that it is such a rich world, sometimes it takes a little time to render images when you're going fast through an area. It did not give anyone the house nightmares, but it did send us all screaming around the room the first time we encountered each new creature. More of a fun scared. Everyone loves it and we've gotten hours of enjoyment from it. ... show more

  • Great game just don’t buy the “used” version. Pretty sure it gave my Xbox AIDS
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard
Played the game on gamepass and loved it. Wanted a hard copy to have it forever. Made the mistake in buying the “used - like new” version. Disk is very scratched and wouldn’t even run on my Xbox.
