    • Great starter set but not for serious photographers
I knew it was made in China so I kept my expectations low. It works and it was cheep which is all I was looking for right now. I normally do landscape photography and I just wanted to try a little studio photography to see if it was something that I would like or be good at. If so, I will buy some good quality equipment that will handle more use. If not, for less than the cost of one tank of gas in my motorhome I saved what it would have cost for a good set. PROS: Everything does what it is suppose to do. Individual light switches on the primary and secondary lights let me easily adjust how dim or bright my secondary light is compared to the primary for different effects on the shot. The lights don't give off a lot of heat and are white balanced for daylight rather than a yellow tint. With the lights always on rather than remote flashes, I can easily see how the shadows will play on my subject before I take the shot. The storage bags with all the individual boxes for the light bulbs keeps it all neat and tidy if you don't mind spending all the time it takes to put it up and take it down. I just left mine up. CONS: The stands are very flimsy and if I decide to continue doing this I would need good quality stands so I could focus on my subject rather than worrying about if the stand will break if anything accidentally bumps into it. The tall stand for the hair light actually sways dramatically when bumped if everything is extended for maximum reach and the weighted bags attached. I wouldn't consider trying to move it to adjust its location without first retracting the boom. The light switch for the boom light is in the cord which would be fine if it were in the middle of the cord rather than a foot from the light. With the boom extended for use I can't reach the switch to turn it on or off without a step stool or lowering the boom, turning it on, and then raising it back into place. I just plugged it into an extension cord with a switch on it since the light cord isn't long enough to reach a plug when the boom is extended anyway. The whole set is a little dim if you are doing live subjects and need a fast shutter speed for crisp focus, otherwise it's not a problem. USES: Just like anything you might buy from a "Made in China" outlet store like Harbor Freight Tool or Walmart, you get what you pay for, which is fine if you don't expect it to last and think of it as disposable. If you're like me, and just trying first to help you decide if you want or need a good quality set up or you only need it for occasional use, this set will work for you. I couldn't image trying to work with this set for a serious hobbyist or a professional. ... show more

    • GOOD & BAD. The plasticoom arm HINGE came broken, & stands are cheap. It's GOOD 4 Studio work, NOT good as portable unit.

I changed my rating from 1-star to 4-stars b/c of this company's "Satisfaction guarantee", & they're customer service which reflects these values. Upon calling them regarding the issue stated below, they immediately shipped me a higher quality replacement part which got to my home w/i 2 days of calling them. The lighting is excellent from videography, ans looks great for portrait style images, as well. (mainly butterfly-style lighting:). The product has held up better than I anticipated & would recommend this to friends/fellow Photographers with a studio. I bought this 3-light system mostly for the boom arm light, but the plastic hinge attachment came broken? (see pictures). Can you just send me a new plastic hinge? It's a very heavy package to return, and I truly just want the broken piece replaced, instead of struggling to send the entire package back? I "do" think the lighting quality is "good for the money", & I will use this for studio work. I really like the fact that even though it says "non dimming", it technically "IS". Each of the two, 5-bulb lights, has it's own on/off switch on the back, controlling each bulb, independently. So I can choose to have "on", only 1 of 5 bulbs, 2 of 5 bulbs etc., at any anytime. The boom light is the only light with a, "1 bulb/1 setting", light. The boom "stand" is good, it's only the plastic hinge that bothers me. It's pretty cheap & came broke, unfortunately. The stands for the other two lights may work, but they're a bit too flimsy and I used a couple Westcott stands in their place. BUT, the light look & output is impressive, & look & function of the light/softboxes, really does meet all my needs. I'll use this system in conjunction with my strobe & speedlite set-up, & probably mostly for videography. But with the lights on their lowest settings, they create some cool Photography lighting, as well! So, while I don't see myself, nor anyone honestly, breaking these down & taking them out of the studio, they will be handy & used on a regular basis. I "do" have doubts to the longivity of this system- Much more so if you plan on using this as a portable unit, and: breaking it down, transporting, & reassembling on any kind of repetitive basis. I will change my star rating to a 4-Star,(because of the: price, light output, look of light/softboxes, & the independent switches on the back of the lights, "IF" you will please: just ship me the piece that came broken so I won't have to waste my time & effort: breaking down all 3 lights, repackaging, & shipping this very heavy package- Not to mention the jobs booked for the next couple Wks., which require the use of these lights?
