  • Perfect EDC Flashlight
I have the original Streamlight Microstream that uses a single AAA battery and have been using it for years, with rechargeable AAA batteries. I was tempted to get the newest version that has a built-in rechargeable battery and micro USB port for charging but the only downside of the Microstream is its fairly short run time due to its small size. More times than not when I went to use it it would run out of power right in the middle of whatever I was doing. But then I saw the newer Macrostream and knew it would be the perfect replacement because it's only slightly larger and has considerably longer run time, and has the built-in micro USB charging port. I noticed some people complaining that it didn't have a USB type C charging port and I get it, but I don't think it's worth taking a star off just for that. It's nice that it's brighter but I wasn't really concerned about the light output since most uses for a flashlight around the house doesn't require anything super bright, just bright enough to see what you are doing, I was more interested in increased run time. I purchased some Streamlight headlamps in the past and was disappointed that the actual run time was much shorter than what was advertised. So I was pleasantly surprised when the run time on low for the Macrostream ended up being about 8 1/2 hours when I tested it and they claim 8 hours so nice work there. It has the typical solid build quality that I've come to expect from Streamlight and love the pocket clip that allows me to use it as a headlamp with a baseball cap, that has come in handy many times when it was much more convenient to have a hands-free light pointing right where I needed it. So even though the Microstream is smaller, this is still plenty compact and with its longer run time, to me it's the perfect everyday carry (EDC) flashlight for use in and around the house. ... show more

  • Goes with me everywhere
Easily the best light I own. Never leave home without it. Incredibly handy to have for a quick look. The charging time is a bit long but the high output is worth it. Small enough to easily fit in a pocket.

  • IT'S NOT USB C!!!! And works fine. Explanation in the review.
Update: Still feel the same way about a micro USB but if you think the thing is broken when you get it (I did) it's because you haven't figure it out. Tap the light (don't push) and it comes on bright. While holding it at that brightness, tap again and It will go to low power. When you have one or the other showing, press firmly and that's the light you will get. I had no clue what I was doing and came within a breath of sending it back. I apologize to the store and the manufacturer for being clueless. Updating to 5 stars. The bright is very bright the low power works well in low light. This day and age, I "Assumed" that it would be the, now, standard USB C. It actually micro usb! Go figure. I am half way tempted to return the thing because of this. I now have to dig into my old junk drawer to find a micro usb. Oh it is one good flash light. Just this old technology, for something this expensive, disappoints. The fact that it states it is a micro usb is besides the point. That info was buried. And I could have asked does it have X-Ray capabilities, but I KNEW IT DIDN'T. This day and age one should be able to just know it is now the current standard. Update: Dropped from 4 to 2 stars. When it started it had a low power and high. Now it only has high and that is sometimes. If the barrel gets turned, it will light at a press but won't stay on. If you turn the barrel, it will now stay on but only high power. The "barrel" I refer to is the "sleeve" that you push up to reveal the micro usb. What that has to do with it, I have no clue. Double press only turns high power on quickly. Certainly not worthy of the EDC tag. ... show more

  • Recommend it! But you need to know...
First I have to say I LOVE, LOVE this flashlight... so much so that I've bought an embarrassing 6 in the last 8 years. First the Pros: - It's very strong and solid. The case takes a lot of beating - The one press (painfully bright), 2nd press (moderately bright) feature has been all I need - The clip is actually useful, I carry one in my pocket clipped to the pocket top wherever I go. Now the Cons: - The main reason I've had to replace so many times is the fact it just stops working. When this happens, it flickers heavily. Occasionally taking out the battery and 're-seating' it helps, as does looking for or cleaning off any corrosion on the contacts. At other times it stops completely, possibly the emitter - This morning I felt something odd in my pocket. When I reached and felt the flashlight it was EXTREMELY hot. I've heard about thermal runaway but hadn't experienced it - this was disturbing. I ran it outside and unscrewed the case, taking the battery out; it's since cooled. Can I trust this thing again? The price has come down nicely, I wish I could trust another type/ brand/ manufacturer but I've gone down that road and most are really cheap in materials, construction, etc. So yea, I'd recommend it, but with caveats ... show more
