I was looking for a macro pad for my setup but couldn't justify spending $150+ on the big name-brand options. I decided to take a chance on the ActionRing N1 for under $60, and honestly, I am completely blown away by the quality. The 15 LCD keys are bright, crisp, and super responsive. Setting them up with my own custom PNGs and animated GIFs was a breeze. I primarily use this for switching scenes in OBS and launching my most-used apps, but it's also been a game-changer for video editing. The large dial is incredibly smooth and makes scrubbing through the timeline in Premiere Pro or just adjusting my system volume so much easier. What really sets this apart for me, though, is the versatility. I use a tenkeyless keyboard, so being able to switch this device into a dedicated numeric keypad or calculator mode when I have to do boring Excel work is a lifesaver. It’s essentially three devices in one. The software took maybe ten minutes to fully figure out, but once you get the hang of the drag-and-drop interface, creating multi-action macros is super simple. I really want to love this thing, and I use it constantly. It is easy to use and program, compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux out of the box, macros are straightforward, and it's a delight to assign them to keys and watch my menus of single button actions grow. However, the hardware does leave a few things to be desired. Keys are mushy, which is forgivable at this price, and it seems like the Elgato devices are similarly so. The main issue is that unless you have it on a stand/mount and angled up toward your face (for which there are no mounting holes or folding legs) and are sitting more than 20-30 degrees back (I feel like 45 degrees is pretty natural in most desk setups), you will be very disappointed with not only the color washout, but the basic legibility of many of your keys, especially those on the top row. This is because the mini LCD screens are actually placed fairly low down within the body of each key. I have read the Elgato devices suffer the same drawback, but it's still important to plan for if you choose this device. You WILL want to put it on a mount or attach some kind of aftermarket kickstand. It seems like a tough and well-built device with a metal plate under the back plastic that allows me to use a simple phone magnet stand (NOT MAGSAFE, which doesn't stick) to keep it propped up, though I have knocked it off a couple of times being too aggressive when fumbling for a button without looking. I am probably going to swap out the magnet stand for an old school 17 mm ball-based car cell phone mount (pictured), which it seems will stick it in place well. Basically the device is great for the price, but the viewing angle is a problem VSD should have been more proactive about helping users address, so I am subtracting a star. ... show more

This streaming deck is pretty neat for my setup. I believe most people who use this do some sort of streaming content, but that's not me. Among other things I do a lot with agentic coding so I use this mainly for quick task switching between different systems.
